Furniture Makeovers

Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites & a Link Party

You girls slayed it last week.  My mind was spinning at all of the amazing furniture pieces linked up.  Really…some of you put me to shame.  It’s always an honor to feature some fellow furniture-lovers in this weekly party.  Truly.  Now that I’ve gushed all over you, here are some stand-outs from last week… This card catalog makeover by Maple and Magnolia is WOW.  WOW, because I’m totally jealous and want one.  And WOW, because this took an insane amount of tedious work.  Abbie from Five Days Five Ways designed this beautiful nursery for her daughter Della.  This white chair with red piping is super chic against the aqua walls. Della’s a blessed girl.  (I grew up in army housing with white walls.  Does that explain anything?)   Andrea from Sweet Vintage Decor painted and upholstered this antique bench in a grain sack.  This is my kind of furniture makeover!  Andrea certainly knows

Curio Makeover

For the past few months, pieces of furniture have been coming and going at such a rapid pace that it is difficult for me to get before and after shots of every piece.  You may have noticed this curio cabinet in the corner of my room at Lucketts.  When I shared the pictures a couple of weeks ago, some may have thought, “Hmm.  I don’t remember her ever showing the before and after on that.”  Well, if you thought that, you’re super observant and deserve some kind of prize.  Tell your hubby that I said he needs to wash the dishes for you tonight or something.  Here’s what this piece looked like when I first got it.  Great lines…everything else was a mess.  It was filthy, broken and looked depressing.  I could envision this cabinet stuffed to the gills and buried under a pile of possessions in an episode of Hoarders.

Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites & a Link Party

I spent the day moving into my third floor room at Lucketts, so I am basically useless now.  My legs are like noodles and my brain definitely overheated today.  Despite my sorry state, I perked up looking through your furniture links from last week.  Lots of great stuff there!  Here are some of my favorites… Alison from The Modern Cottage Company created a playful, yet stylish kid space.  I love the mismatched beds and bedding and the boyish color scheme.  Being a mom of two boys myself, this caught my eye.  So cute! Sarah from Sarah and Drew B linked up her blue-legged dining table, which I loved, but it was the cupboard in the back and non-matching farm chairs that caught my eye.  The mix of natural wood and paint on that shelf is gorgeous and I love how it’s styled.  And lastly, Julie from Less Than Perfect Life

yet another French chair

If you are not fond of French chairs, you have unfortunately found yourself at a blog that is not for you at all.  If you are a Francophile and enjoy armchairs…well, you are a kindred spirit and you will want to read on.  If you don’t have a strong opinion about French chairs (How could one not?), you can probably handle it, too.  I found this chair at a yard sale a few weeks ago.  The details, shape and frame were great, but the avocado burlap was the “fly in the ointment”, so to speak, and it was a little hard to overlook.  I painted the frame in ASCP’s Old White and upholstered it in a nubby canvas drop cloth with bright white gimp trim.  A slight distressing of the paint brings out the details on the arms and legs…which are yummy.  I’m definitely into furniture appendages.  Some chicks like shoes,

Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites & a Link Party

I know I say it often, but it really was tough to pick some favorites this week!  There were some amazing dressers, slipcovers, chairs…lots of good stuff.  I hope you took some time to browse around.  Here are some I thought were stand-outs… Allison and Kyle from Two Thirty-Five Designs gave this sleepy chair and graphic, bold makeover.  It’s totally not what I would do, but I absolutely love it!  This chair is hot like wow.  One of my favorite “linker-uppers” at FFF is Adri from Dream Book Designs.  I am convinced that she and her handy hubby can take on any project and make it look amazing.  Painting a zillion drawers of a card catalog file?  Kid stuff.  Turning a drafting table base into a dining room table?  Piece of cake.  They’re amazing.  Maybe a little sickening, but amazing.  Rosemary from Villabarnes transformed this French chair with her own mixture of gesso.  This

My last few days have been spent at the swimming pool, science center and just hanging out at my parent’s house.  I hardly know what to do with myself.  I’ve been wearing my painting clothes, just so I feel at home!  I’m having a great time, but I definitely wouldn’t miss our weekly gathering.  Here are my favorites from last week…(I actually had time to sit and look through a lot of the posts this week.  It was luxurious!) Jedbel from The Pear Tree Cottage transformed an outdated brick fireplace into this sleek mantle and surround (and she shares a full tutorial on how to do it!)  I love the pictures of her home and her casual style.  Katie from Wild Wood Creek used one of my favorite colors (aubusson from Annie Sloan) to give this chunky Craig’s List dresser a gorgeous and dramatic new look.  Love it! And lastly,

French Daybed Makeover

I mentioned in passing a few months ago that a family from our church gave me a French daybed for free.  It was in their basement playroom and I spotted it when we were over at their house one day.  I have a habit (and I’m not sure if it’s good or bad) of commenting on the decor and furniture in people’s homes.  So, in classic Marian fashion, I just spewed out, “This is a really, really great piece.”  A few weeks later, my friend called with a “proposition for me”, as she put it.  She gives me the French daybed for free and I get a free French daybed.  That’s the kind of trade I cannot refuse.  It’s been sitting in my family room since then, waiting for a makeover, and the lure became too strong to resist this weekend.  This is sort of how it looked when I got it.  It had different pillows

Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites & A Link Party

Oh my.  I found some amazing inspiration in the party last week. You girls (and occasional guy) are so good!  I’m loving all of the chalk paint, Frenchiness and fabulous finds.  Thanks so much to everyone for participating in this party and turning it into the hot place to be for furniture lovers.  I hope this week will be just as inspiring. Here are some of my favorites from last week… Shannon of AKA Designs made a really cute, rustic headboard for only $36!  It provides a great focal point on a budget.  I also love the “love” banner.  So sweet.  Ritajoy of Harbour Breeze transformed her kitchen for less than $200!  I am about to paint my kitchen in a soft blue, so her choices really caught my eye.  You did an amazing job on a shoestring, girl. Good for you! The last piece that caught my fancy was
