Furniture Makeovers

Before and Afters

chandeliers, boxwood, fluff & stuff

This post is a little blog buffet of a bit of this and that of my day.  Enjoy the randomness…   As I’ve mentioned the past few days, I have a lot of big projects coming up for freelance tutorials.  Some of those projects are tied to others.  (Remember the “decorating is like dominoes” thing?)  For example, two of the tutorials I’m making are on installing a plank ceiling and crown molding, so I’m going to remove the ceiling fan, move the junction box and hang the new chandelier as a part of that project.  So, today, I worked on getting the chandelier ready and while I was working on one chandelier, I might as well work on the other one, right?   This small chandelier above my vanity had sleeves that were too short and they were shiny plastic.  Two things that weren’t working for me.  I bought new

Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint

Trip to Petaluma

Back in December, I took a whirlwind trip across the continent to the beautiful town of Petaluma, CA.  One of my Milk Paint retailers, Genevieve of Gracefully Worn, invited me out and she certainly rolled out the red carpet!  It was an amazing trip.  It started out with a super early flight from Virginia that got me to San Francisco about 9:00 am their time.  We went straight from the airport to Gen’s church, where I taught two workshops.  I had some time to change, take a few bites of food and then it was show time. I cannot thank Gen and her team enough for all of the special touches they worked on to “Mustardize” the space.  There were sheet music garlands, custom stamped tags with my logo, German glass glitter and a huge chalkboard listing all of my products they were selling.  It was a little overwhelming and

Boy, oh boy.  You girls know how to make my heart go pitter-patter.  Some of the entries from last week…  my goodness.  I’ve said it a couple of times, but we…the furniture refinishers, antique dealers and thrift store scroungers…are making this economy hum.  I am always impressed by what I see each week, but this week gave me tingles.  There were some pieces I wanted to pluck through the screen and put in my house.  Thanks so much to all who shared and you have a lot to live up to this week!  🙂 Barb Blair of Knack Studios is a very dear friend of mine, so when I saw this piece of “Knacktastic” furniture, I immediately knew it had Barb’s fingerprints on it…except it didn’t.  This piece is a miniature made for Barb by her friend Susan at Retro Restyling.  That’s right…this is a miniature!  I didn’t realize that

Good evening, everyone!  It’s time for another round up of some of the best furniture on the blogs.   I hope you enjoy my favorites from last week and the links for this week. Diane from In My Own Style created this home center with an old card catalog, a shelf, some bun feet and a homemade chalk paint recipe.  I think it looks brilliant and super functional.  I love the hardware! Angie from Knick of Time shows clever ways to use parts from broken chairs.  This one was my favorite… Kim from Savvy Southern Style is my kind of girl…she’ll paint a piece and paint it again and have no hesitation painting it again.  The result is this mixed-medium table that harmoniously displays ASCP, MMSMP and some gilding wax.  I think the result is beautiful. Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture.

Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites & a Link Party

Hello again all of my furniture-loving friends.  It’s been nice to get back into the swing of things after the hub-bub of the holidays.  It seems like an eternity since I painted my last piece of furniture and I’m getting the itch.  I did start on a small table yesterday, but it’s more of an experiment than a piece I’m really working on.  I do have some pieces to paint around my house and I’ll probably start on some of those in the next week or two.  Until then, I’m living through your furniture makeovers.  (Thanks for that!)  Here were a few of my favorites from last week… This high chair by Allison of The Golden Sycamore made me smile.  It’s just pretty, sweet and slightly whimsical with its dipped legs.  I love everything about it. Traci of Making Beautiful found this beautiful hutch at a yard sale and painted
