Furniture Makeovers

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY | favorites & link party

I’m still on my stay-cation today, so I decided not to pick favorites.  I’m going to get a shoulder rub instead!  I hope everyone enjoys the party and I’ll pick favorites next week. Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite pieces, furniture arrangements, or even pieces on your wish list! Built-in furniture like kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities qualify as furniture. 2.) Post a permalink (the link to the post), not the link to your blog. 3.) This party will close Friday at midnight PST and I will choose my favorite(s) and feature their piece(s) on next week’s FFF. Enjoy the party!

Antique Pine Table Makeover

Would you believe I still have several furniture makeovers from Lucketts to share?  The past few years, I got too busy to take before & after pictures and I really kicked myself for it.  This year, I made myself grab the camera and take a before of every piece AND made sure I had an after picture of each piece before it was loaded into the truck. This antique pine table was one of my favorite pieces.  I guess I had a lot of favorites this year, because this is like the fifth piece I’ve called one of my favorites!  I found it on my shopping trip to Virginia.  It was one of the pricier pieces I bought, but I really loved it and thought it would make a nice “focal piece” in my booth.  Plus, I loved it so much, I didn’t mind if it didn’t sell.  It wasn’t purchased

Wardrobe Makeover & 2014 Lucketts Recap Day 2

Before I get to a recap of day two at the Lucketts Spring Market, I thought I would show a before and after of one of the furniture pieces I sold there this past weekend.  This is how the piece started… It was in pretty nice condition and could’ve been used as is, but I felt that paint would bring out the details of the piece much better.  Cari painted the interior in MMSMP Shutter Gray and the exterior in Grain Sack.  I then came in and added Ironstone to the details, lightly distressed the edges and finished the entire piece off with Hemp Oil. It turned out so sweet and I love the wood details against the painted finishes. It looked great in the space and sold fast!   And that’s the whole point! In contrast to the frenzy of day one at Lucketts, day two is more relaxed.

Eulalie's Sky Cabinet

Well, the Lucketts Spring Market just wouldn’t be the same without torrential downpours and some point.  Thankfully, we got them out of the way last night and the weather forecast says partly sunny with a high of 68 for the weekend.  It sounds like perfection!  Unfortunately, though, the rain last night caused a lot of flooding.  One of my tents collapsed under the weight of the two ponds that formed in the tarp.  Thankfully, the tarp did what it’s supposed to do and everything inside was clean, dry and unharmed.  Jeff and his dad fixed it all up, so my mother-in-law and I could have a nice lunch at my favorite farm-to-table restaurant.   Jeff’s a good guy…he knew that a day driving to Lucketts to deal with a collapsed tent wouldn’t be the best for me on “Lucketts Eve.” I thought I would share one of my favorite furniture

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY | Breida's favorites and link party

Today’s FFF is brought to you by Breida with a B (or I before E except in Breida, as I call her!)  You’re in good hands while I go take a bath and go to bed! So. Our friend Marian is a little busy this week. Seriously. Do you know anyone else that is as busy as she is? I love the Lucketts Spring Market for so many different reasons – not the least of which is that it’s where I met Marian in person for the first time. Her preparations for Lucketts may distract her from the blog a teensy bit – but you know she will be back and picking Furniture Feature Friday favorites as soon as she can manage. Meanwhile…. I’m so pleased, once again, to step in and be guest picker this week. I really enjoy doing it because it gives me a good excuse to

what's in the truck

We loaded the truck this evening and, unlike previous years, it didn’t rain!  It has rained most years when we pack the truck, which isn’t a huge deal, but it’s a pain to try to keep everything dry.  It was very soupy (humid) and threatened to rain, but waited until everything was in the truck.  Whew!  It was also the smoothest truck-packing we’ve ever had.  The guys who came to help worked so hard and were patient with me as I requested things be moved into the house first for a photo shoot, then out to the truck.  For three of them, I think this is their second or third year helping, so they have become Lucketts-packing-pros.  We are really blessed to have young men like this to help each year. Here are some things that ended up on the truck… This black desk actually belonged to my dad’s grandma.  He

More French Chairs

We’re on the final stretch to Lucketts.  The truck gets loaded today and we’ll set up our space tomorrow.  I’ve been working on things and shopping for so long that I’m really looking forward to it finally being here. I told you I have French chairs coming out of my ears, practically.  I usually have four or five.  This year, I have nine…I think.  That might not sound like much, but I feel like it’s a lot. Here’s one I just finished a few days ago…. If you think that chair looks familiar, you’re right!  I bought this pair of chairs a couple of years ago and painted them in Shutter Gray with a wash of Ironstone.  I brought them to the Lucketts Holiday Open House when I was a vendor there and they didn’t sell.  So, I brought them home and used them for a while. I tried to

experimenting gone right

When I have a bunch of “subjects” in my basement, it’s a great time for me to test out some ideas, techniques and new products.  I do need to use the tried and true as well, so I don’t end up with a bunch of DIY disasters, but it’s not much of a risk to experiment on a few pieces.  Plus, I’ve learned that it’s really hard to ruin a piece with paint.  You can always sand it and try again. My biggest recent experiment was on this piece… I got this dresser from the same place I got the Boxwood dresser and the condition was pretty similar.  It needed to be cleaned, glued, sured up and straightened out.  The top was chipping and had gouges and water rings on it, so I stripped the finish.  The wood underneath was so beautiful! I painted the body of the dresser in
