Furniture Feature Friday – A Favorite & A Link Party

I was looking through all of the amazing furniture posts from last week and I found something unexpected.  A furniture post that touched me…and made me teary eyed.  So, while I generally highlight Frenchy buffets, frilly slipcovers and cool paint jobs, tonight, I am going to share a piece that spoke to me.  Christie from Three Pixie Lane shared a stunning secretary that she purchased to use as a space just for her to display pretty things.  Her “pretties” are similar to ones I have around my home…antique books, sepia photos, a twisted barley pedestal and ironstone, but we also share another treasured collection… …that of war letters written by our grandfathers. She has over 100 letters her grandfather wrote to his wife during WWII.  When I saw the pictures of her letters, neatly stacked on this gorgeous piece of furniture, it reminded me of the time I spent reading, scanning, and

Furniture Feature Friday – A Link Party & Salute to the Insane

This week I am saluting the crazy, gutsy, fearless ladies who walked the line between stupidity and genius and proved everyone wrong who scoffed at them along the way.  I tip my hat to these gals.  Suzanne from Meridian Road bought this piece off of Craig’s List and turned it into… …this.  Whew!  Amazing job! Joining the ranks of the crazy brilliant is Lexi’s Mommy from Paper Flower Drive.  She took this nasty love seat, with beautiful lines, and turned it into… …a bench!  This is so original and it looks fantastic.  I’m really impressed. The last certifiable DIYer is Lindy from Cottage Hill.  Can you believe that this elegant, curvy, and timeless headboard is made out of plywood.  Plywood!!  You just can’t make really pretty things out of plywood, but she did.  Thank you, ladies, for showing me what a chicken I am and I mean that in the best

Furniture Feature Friday – Link Party & Favorites!

I’ll tell you, it was a very tough week to pick a few favorites.  There were a lot of projects in the running, but these were the three that stuck with me.  Our Southern Nest painted this already beautiful Bombay chest and made it a one-of-a-kind stunner.  I love the color and finish she achieved and there are some wonderful glaze tips in this post.  Erin from Welcome Home turned a “rustic potting bench” into a perfect vanity.  I love the warmth and age of the table against the white sink, walls, and floor.  Kim from Savvy Southern Style transformed this custom made family piece from a dated dresser for a boy to an adorable changing table for a baby girl.  This is the ultimate in recycling and the result is lovely.  I have to give one last nod to my girl, Katie, from On the Banks of Squaw Creek.

Furniture Feature Friday – A Favorite & A Link Party

Well, after weeks of trying to convince myself otherwise, I have come to the conclusion that I just don’t have the time to leave comments on every link shared.  I have always done that, but the last few weeks have been a struggle.  I don’t want to give the party up all together and in order to keep it going, I have to drop that standard I set for myself.  I just want you all to know that am looking at each project and gleaning inspiration from all of your posts.  So, for a favorite…  I featured a few projects earlier this week, so in addition to those, these two links really stood out to me.  They happen to be by the same person.  The Lamp Tramp.  She made two of the most detailed and beautiful slipcovers I think I have ever seen. She finished these white linen slipcovers with

Furniture Feature Friday – A Favorite & A Link Party

Ok.  Confession time.  I did not get to look at every single link last week and I didn’t leave comments for everyone.  I am still recovering from Lucketts and getting on the computer for a few hours to look and comment on all of the links was just not a priority this week.  I appreciate the time and energy you put into your posts and love that you share them here.  Just cut me a break this week.  🙂 I did manage to find a favorite, though.  I am a sucker for a French Settee and this one’s a beauty.  Ann Marie from La Maison LaFortune flexed her upholstery muscles on this piece and transformed a fussy and formal settee into something current, flirty and sophisticated.  I love the white frame and fabric combination. It is a lovely piece and you should be very proud of yourself, Ann Marie.  Thanks so much

Furniture Feature Friday – A Favorite, A Question and A Link Party

I missed our little get together last week, girls, but I was busy hanging out with Paul Baloche.  I really enjoyed looking through the links, though, and there were a lot of beautiful pieces as always.  There was one that knocked my socks off and she’s been featured here before… Ann Marie from Twice Lovely and her hand painted bench made out of end tables and a head board.  Can you believe how gorgeous this bench turned out?  I love the simple branch detail on the back, the color, and the way all of these off cast pieces of furniture work together.  I was truly wowed.  Wonderful job, Ann Marie. So, here’s my question.  There are blog parties ALL OVER THE PLACE now.  Is this one worth having?  It’s a lot of work to host and I want to make sure that it’s being enjoyed by those attending.  I’m making one small change

Painting By Candlelight

In case some of you have not realized it, yet…I am crazy.  I will hack through a row of bushes and vines with a pair of cheap pruning shears and my bare hands.  I will dig through bug infested boxes in order to find some cool things to decorate my house with.  I will go into the seediest looking thrift shop in the hopes of scoring my next favorite piece.  Something small like a power outage will not stop me from painting a room.  Most normal people might read by candlelight or play a card game.  Me?  The kids are in bed, the internet is down, and my hubby’s reading a book…this is prime DIY time.  So, with bunches of candles and a roller loaded with paint, I covered the peacock blue in my living room, which I’ve been threatening to do for a while, with Aria Ivory (a retired SW
