Megan’s office makeover | part 4 | wall colors & design elements

I spent a good part of the day at Megan’s house, helping her paint her office.  If you’re just hopping in on this series, we’re in the middle of giving her small office a farmhouse-style makeover on a budget of $1000.  Here are the previous three posts, so you can get caught up! part 1 | the before part 2 | the “franken-chair” part 3| the plan In a nutshell, here’s the plan for the space… …but you can get the full details HERE. Today, Megan and I were able to put two coats of paint on the walls in a few hours as our four boys (two mine, two hers) played together and her husband acted as referee. We were both giddy as the paint was drying and the look of the room was taking shape. And we took a few minutes to talk about the wall colors as well

vintage-style deck makeover

I’ve always been what you call an “indoor girl” when it comes to home decor.  When we put our house on the market (and ended up not selling it) last spring, our realtor put an “I’m Beautiful Inside” sign above the “For Sale” sign.  That’s realtor code for “It looks better once you walk through the front door.” It’s not that I didn’t care about the outside, but with two little boys, a business to run and a limited budget, we focused our attention on the inside and didn’t have much time, money or motivation to work on the outside. Now that the boys are getting older and we’re almost finished with the inside of the house, we’ve been working on the outside in bits and pieces.  We replaced the front door (you could actually see outside through some cracks in the old door), installed a new driveway (the old one was

megan’s office makeover | part 3 | the plan

After a few weeks of marinating on things, sourcing, kicking around ideas, I have come up with a plan for Megan’s office makeover.  If you missed the first two posts in this series, you can check them out here… part 1 | the before part 2 | the “franken-chair” And now, I’m finally sharing the plan, letting you know the direction we’re heading. Here’s what the office space looked like the day I made my house call.  Please remember that Megan had the door closed and curtains drawn on this room, which was used to dump things in when she cleaned the house for my visit, and I stuck my nose in and then took pictures of it and then posted them on my blog.  (Good friend that I am.) So, Megan is not really in love with anything in this space, but it does have great bones…windows that let in pretty

My brother called the other day and asked how I was doing after “the post.”  I knew exactly which post he was referring to and you probably do, too.  “I’m really fine!  99% of the comments were constructive and they helped me think through what’s next.” My brother pointed out that it’s time for the next.  “You have been telling a story, as you’ve been working on your home over the years.  Now that your home is pretty much done, that story is coming to an end.  It’s time for a new story, now.”  It was one of those times when someone says something simple, matter-of-fact, but profound. I love the way he phrased that.  It’s not that I’ll never talk about my house again.  There are still finishing touches and you know I can’t help but rearrange some furniture!  But it’s time for some new stories. I felt a bubble of
