the French twins of Lucketts 2017

It has become a Lucketts tradition, it seems, to have a twin pair of French-style chairs at the Miss Mustard Seed booth!  Well, we do not want to break that trend, now, do we? As a recap, here is the pair from 2014… …from 2015… …and from 2016… And here is the pair for 2017 (before their makeover, of course)… They are a new-ish pair, so they are in good, sturdy condition, and they sit a little higher, making them ideal for pulling them up to a table.  The frames are nice as they are, but they look a little too “factory finished”, so I will most likely paint them.  I’m going to wait to decide until they are stripped and I “try on” some fabric to see what I want to do.  I always base the wood/paint and color decisions on the fabric I’m going to use. Now, I almost didn’t

english advertising containers…

Sometimes the best things happen through e-mail.  I have “found” some of my best sources just because someone reached out to me.  I took a chance on ordering antique linens from a source in Hungary who e-mailed me and he’s been an awesome source for over four years.  Some of my local pickers first sent me an e-mail, sharing pictures of their regular finds, asking if I could like to buy from them. Well, most recently, I received an e-mail from a reader who specializes in antique English advertising containers and jars. Um.  Yes, please.  I had actually splurged on an anchovy container when I was at the Fancy Little Flea in Memphis and I immediately started searching for more, but they were too costly to buy and resell. Her prices were great, so I placed an order and they just arrived a few days ago. Oh my goodness…  It

All the details for Lucketts 2017

Lucketts 2017 is just around the corner!!  I know May doesn’t seem that close, but when I have to fill a 5,000 square foot pavilion, it is right around the corner. Lucketts will be entirely different this year.  Well, not entirely, because it will still have awesome antique dealers, makers, food vendors, beer crafters, and music.  It’s different because it’s moving to a new location. If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know weather is always a factor at the Lucketts Spring Market, since it’s an outdoor event, and our parade was definitely rained on last year.   So much so, that the event had to be closed on Sunday due to ground saturation.  Cars were stuck, booths were literally sitting in inches of water, the mud…oh, the mud was terrible.  And, even if you’re amazing at putting on an event, as the Lucketts crew is, there is only

the antique bread case

I am often asked how I find such great pieces.  Well, I find a lot of them myself, just by cruising Craigslist, going to antique stores, and hitting some other favorite shopping spots.  But, I also have some great “pickers” who know me well and either sell pieces to me directly or tip me off to finds they think would interest me. One of my pickers, Traer, found this amazing, antique display piece for me last week… I had a similar one at Lucketts last year and it was one of my favorite pieces. At first, I assumed it was a cheese case, but I found lettering on the inside of the bottom and it is, indeed, a bread case… This is the back of it, but I sort of love the little door and latch. It’s in pretty amazing condition with all of the glass intact and a sturdy

leather boots & linen aprons

If you’re observant, you may notice I have a favorite pair of boots.  They are my go-to for events, photo-shoots, videos, church, tooling around, etc.  Basically any time I need to wear “real clothes”. They are the Deerfield boots from LL Bean and Jeff bought them for me for Christmas a few years ago.  They don’t carry the exact style any longer, but they offer a few that are similar.  Anyway, they are comfy and they just get better with age. I honestly don’t mind that they are scuffed and wrinkled, but I figured they could use a little TLC. Kriste wrote a post for the MMSMP blog about hydrating and polishing her leather booths with our Hemp Oil and 100% Beeswax Finish.  Her boots looked amazing and I happened to have both products on hand (duh), so I tried it on my favorite boots. Believe it or not, I

more Lucketts goodies…

I thought I would share a few more goodies I acquired for Lucketts this week. Wooden spoons, more Bakelite, and lots of ironstone!  Platters, pitchers… …sweet little creamers and gravy boats… …and this very unique brush box… At least, it’s the shape of a brush box, but I’ve never seen ones with holes in the lid.  Usually, those are there to let out steam, so I’m not sure what purpose they would serve in a brush box.  It’s also a little wider.  Maybe it was for a steamed veggie, like asparagus?  Any ideas? And, one of my pickers has hit a streak of these canning sets and she found another one… We also got in another shipment of Savon de Marseille soaps. That bowl was heavy!!  Kriste took a few pictures while I held it and, when we were done, she said, “Good for you for that!”  And I even

stacks & rolls of linen

Before we get hip-deep in linens, I just want to say a huge thank you for all of the kind comments left on yesterday’s post.  I’ve been struggling a bit with writers-block and, quite honestly, being in a bit of a funk, and those comments unclogged the cork!  Seriously!  I know I sometimes get stuck in my own head and getting a glimpse of how this work can and does impact and encourage others is like a stimulant for my creative soul. Thanks for the pick-me-up. So, I received an order of linens late last week and was in nubby, antique, blue & white linen heaven as they were unpacked.  Kriste organized all of them in stacks and rolls on our work tables and I had to leave the work at my desk and venture over to pet them. I order them from a supplier in Europe that I’ve worked

my favorite craigslist search terms

If you haven’t picked up on it, yet, I am an avid “craigslister”.  It started with one dining room table about 9 years ago and it has become my go-to place to browse for furniture and other miscellaneous things. I love that I never know what I’m going to find.  I love that you can weed through all of the junk and find some real gems for a good price.  I love that I can shop from the comfort of my sofa.  I think it’s all-around awesome. I shared a bunch of my best tips for shopping craigslist HERE, but I wanted to update and expand the search terms I use, since I was asked and that it can change depending on trends and what I’m into. Before I share the terms I use, I want to mention that I aways search in all “for sale” categories.  People put stuff in
