a smoother landing

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Blue Apron.  As always, all opinions expressed are honest and my own.  Read to the bottom of the post to find out how you can get $60 off your first 3 weeks of Blue Apron meals. When I get back from a trip, especially an extended one overseas, the landing can be a little bumpy.  Not only am I jetlagged and completely out of my normal routine, but there is a backlog of work and home stuff that needs my attention.  Jeff does great…  While I was in Europe, he ordered school pictures, watered my plants, and made sure the boys got to all of their activities on top of everything else.  But, I know from experience when he travels, you just have to let some stuff go when you’re pulling double duty. One of the things that’s typically kicked down the road when

Paris 2019 | the fountain pen store

As I shared in THIS POST, I visited a pen & paper shop mentioned in the book A Paris Year on our first day in the hopes of finding a fountain pen.  While the shop was charming, it wasn’t what I was expecting and they didn’t carry what I was looking for.  I knew from walking around last year that there were tons of pen & paper stores in Paris and I just had to find the right one. I looked up fountain pen shops in Paris online and found an article on Fountain Pen Love sharing a list of John’s top 10 shops.  The description of Mora Stylos caught my attention, specifically because they carried vintage and used pens.  It wasn’t too far from the Marais district, so we decided to walk in that direction after our tour and lunch. John and Wendy hung around outside of the shop

Paris 2019 | Marais Walking Tour

One of my favorite experiences in Paris last year was a private walking tour (The Sweet Side of Paris), so I decided to schedule another tour for this visit.  These small tours are a great way to see the city and learn new things.  My mom, John, Wendy, and I decided to do the Treasures of the Marais Walking Tour.  We were all interested in the architecture and history of that district. It was a wonderful tour! Our small group of eight learned a lot about some of the key buildings and squares in that district and it was fascinating. Our guide pointed out marks from the past, like damage from WWII bullets… …and an 1830 cannonball stuck in the side of a building… One of the most interesting places our guide pointed out was Campagnons Du Devoir…  (Ah, stupid broken iPhone camera.) I was attracted to the blue facade

Paris 2019 | Chateau Latour & the Louvre

I’m ho-ome!  For those who haven’t been following on Instagram or Facebook, I spent two weeks in Europe and arrived back in the States yesterday.  I didn’t want to work on blog posts during my trip.  Instead, I took lots of pictures and kept a detailed journal, so I could share it all with you when I got back…and, boy, I have a lot to share!  I filled my entire journal and then had to turn it over and start writing on the backs of the pages because I ran out of paper.  (I’m a one-sided page writer.  It’s just tidier to me.) Anyway, before we dive into the trip, I wanted to let you know that this will be a series since I have so much to share.  I couldn’t possibly fit it all in one or two posts.  I’ll share the posts in chronological order and try to

August 2019 Favorites

As I look back over August, it was a good month!  I had a lot of favorites as summer was winding down and fall started to creep in with the changing of the leaves on a few trees and school starting. Usually, August is hot and it drags on, but that has not been the case this year, thankfully! Here were some of my favorites… Cool summer days August has been unusually cool here in Minnesota and I am not complaining.  It has been delightful.  I love it when I can break out the hoodies and the leaves start changing.  Yep, I still love winter even after the polar vortex and record-breaking February snows of last winter.  Bring it on. Steal Like an Artist I loved Austin Kleon’s book Keep Going and I loved Steal Like an Artist, too.  It’s an easy read and it’s so encouraging. You Will Be Found

Paris Plans

Last week, I got all of our final plans in place.  Our Italy leg is all planned out by Inspired in Tuscany, so I only needed to make travel arrangements and schedule some tours for Paris and for one day in Florence. One thing we wanted to do this visit was to see the French countryside, so our big excursion is a day trip to Reims-Champagne with Artventures France.  We’ll be visiting a couple of champagne houses for tastings, an old village, and a cathedral.  I am so excited for that day! We are also doing two tours in Paris with Localers again.  We did our Flea Market Tour and Sweet Side of Paris tour with them last year and both were excellent.   We did the Sweet Side of Paris tour on a whim and it was such a wonderful surprise and memorable way to experience the city. This year,

packing for Europe

Last year, as I was preparing to leave for Europe, what to bring and getting it all packed bordered on obsession.  I had been longing to visit Europe as an adult for years and I wanted to get it all right.  I debated over what shoes to wear and tried on many different brands and styles.  I knew I wanted to wear dresses and leggings, but I didn’t want to be too hot or too cold or not ready for rain or underdressed for a specific occasion.  I also compulsively reviewed my supplies.  Did I have everything I needed for work, for art, for photography?  I’m pretty sure my suitcase was sitting open on the floor of our bedroom for at least two weeks leading up to the trip. This year, I have experience on my side.  I know what worked and what didn’t.  I’m excited about the trip and

July 2019 Favorites

I thought I should fit this post in before we get to September!  Man, August is just flying by.  I remember looking over the three months of summer approaching when we were in May and I felt like it would be an eternity.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the laziness of summer.  I enjoy sleeping in a little bit later, not having to prepare lunches or work on school projects. I like that the pace of activities is a little slower.  But, as an entrepreneur who runs my business out of my house, it’s really hard to balance work and having the kids home all day.  I want to do fun things with them, but I also have commitments and deadlines. Well, we’ve managed to balance it all out (some days better than others) and the summer that threatened to drag on is now coming to a rapid end.
