Lucketts Holiday Open House 2012

Not only is tomorrow the first day of the famous Lucketts Holiday Open House, but it’s also my very first book signing.  I feel sort of nervous about it…well, really nervous about it.  I don’t know what to expect.  I do know that I’m just going to enjoy the ride.  I also know that I am going to be sitting at this table in a beautifully-decorated tent tomorrow at 10:00 am.   I couldn’t have imagined a prettier place.  I love the painted shelf behind and the blue-striped grain sack runner.  Perfect for me.   Yes, I am in a tent in northern Virginia in November, so I will be dressing WARM!  I was going to try to look really cute but I think a sweatshirt will be required.  Oh well, that’s me anyway and I’m going to be sitting behind that table tomorrow because I’ve just been me through

glittery & Sandy

The Lucketts Holiday Open House is next weekend and it really crept up on me.  I usually start making ornaments in September, but I didn’t start until last week this year.  Because of my late start, I’m just making German glass glitter ornaments and won’t be making any of my sheet music ornaments.  In addition to glittered stars, words and pretty shapes, I’m making a bunch of over-sized glittered pine cones.   (My entire dining room is sparkly.)   I’m bringing 25 huge rolls of 2″ burlap ribbon.  This stuff is great for trimming a tree, garland, swags, and making wreaths.  (Oh!!  I bet it would even look cool woven and then sewn into a tree skirt or a stocking lined with cotton…hmmm…)   I’m also selling some beautiful Christmas cards by Jennifer Carrol Designs.   When I was shopping last week I found an adorable antique berry tote that is perfect to

shop & shop for inspiration

I know that Lucketts isn’t a chain store, so unless you live within a comfortable driving distance of the DC metro area, you probably weren’t able to make it to the October Design House.  Well, if not, you can check out some of the items featured in that beautifully decorated farmhouse at Shop Lucketts.  I have only bought a few small things from the Design House, but I go in for a look anytime I can.  Why?  Because there is so much inspiration packed in one place.  That has translated to the online shop as well. Suzanne and Amy picked out these lights for their cool industrial quality.  You can use this idea to create your own fixtures out of an old fry basket or antique egg basket and a kit for a hardware store.   I think this cloche set is an awesome piece, but as an alternative, you

Friday Finds

I know it sounds funny to say, but I really needed to go shopping.  I wasn’t seeking retail therapy, but I needed cool stuff to sell in my space.  I’ve lately been so busy with milk paint stuff and everything else that I haven’t had the time to shop as much as I need to in order to keep my space stocked.  So, I set out on a shopping trip with my mother-in-law yesterday and found some great stuff…   …a great fan…   …some wooden gingerbread work from a house…   …and this amazing wire skirt form with the original measuring tapes.   I found several other smalls, which is mainly what I needed to buy, but I also unexpectedly scored some great pieces of furniture.  I bought an empire dresser with original glass knobs, an antique wardrobe and I was having heart palpitations over an 1840 step-back

Glitter, Stir Sticks & Bella Rustica

For years I have been making glittered letters to sell in my space, first at the Lucketts Fair, then at Wild Rose and finally in my space at Lucketts. They always sell well, but they are tedious to make and are pretty messy. My move to the lobby left me without a great place to hang my over-sized magnet board, so I decided it was a good time to switch gears.   Instead of selling the glittered letters, I’m going to sell the glitter.  That way people can make their own glittered letters or glittered whatevers!  I still plan to do a ton of glittering for Christmas, but I won’t carry the magnetic letters.  I had fun putting a little display together for it…      I’m still working out the packaging, but for now I’m selling it in these miniature clear paint cans.     So, we’ll see how

Shop Lucketts – Deal Alert

Shop Lucketts has another special deal this month for my readers.  It’s this beautiful tall candle holder that usually retails for $45 and is now $35!   Here’s what Suzanne and Amy have to say about this piece and why they selected it… “You’ve all asked us for more decorative and table top pieces, and this new item is quite a beauty!  Our candle stand features delicate metal flowers surrounding a tall glass candle cover.  We love this item because of its height and we’ve found these are a go-to item at our Design House whenever we need to add height to our console table decor or create interesting tablescapes.  A great tablescape needs texture and variety in height to keep your interest.  This piece does just the trick, and a candle can be added for gorgeous light during dinner.   I can just imagine how beautiful these would be as

Milk Paint at Lucketts!

On Thursday, I drove down to Lucketts with Faith and my husband and we worked on getting my space in the lobby looking great and filled with milk paint.  I’ve been in the lobby for a couple of months, but it’s been hard for me to get settled there.  With the milk paint finally in transit from Canada, I asked two design gurus, Suzanne and Amy of Design House fame, to help me with the layout of the space.  Suzanne traded a slim, glass topped shirt counter for my HUGE hardware counter and she also loaned me the hutch on the back wall.  Soooooo much better.   I’m  selling the two tall bookcases, so the back wall can be a spot for furniture pieces.  I’m hoping to figure out how to maximize that little nook and fill it with cozy furnishings and accessories and hang some of my hand painted
