Miscellaneus

And the winner is…

…The Flea Market Trixie and her painted bombay chest. First of all, I need to say that is was really hard to pick just one this week. I thoroughly enjoyed every post and there were so many great makeovers and pieces of furniture. This was Trixie’s very first post…can you believe it? I’m telling you, girls, this blog is going to grow if all of her stuff is this good!I love the color she chose for this piece. Bombay chests can sometimes feel stuffy and heavy. The soft aqua color kept it fresh & feminine. The delicate stenciled detail on the center drawer gives it even more interest and texture. This is a great technique to use on a piece that is very traditional if you want to give it a flirty look. I also absolutely adore this sign she made using the discarded trim from a hutch. This was

More Mossy Tutorials & a Feature

First of all, I am super excited to announce that today I am being featured on Amy’s amazing blog, Mod Podge Rocks. She noticed a few of my decoupage projects and asked to do a feature. Well, duh…sure! Her site is jam packed with projects, ideas, and loads of inspiration. Check it out! I said it in my Silver Bowl Moss Topiary post, I’ve been in a mossy mood lately. Several reasons. It’s cheap, it’s easy, it won’t die, and it looks fabulous. So, I promised I would give a tutorial on how to make the moss wreath hanging in my dining room and here it is… I feel a little funny giving a tutorial, because it’s so simple. I purchased 2 wreath forms from the Dollar Tree and 3 packages of floral (sheet) moss from Wal-Mart. The wreaths were $1.00 each and the moss was $1.97 per 2 oz

Snow, Sledding, Soup & Silver Bowls

I’ve been feeling a little mossy lately and my glue gun has been on fire! I’ve made wreaths, ball topiaries, and now some bowl topiaries. I’m going to share the bowl topiary tutorial with you in this post, as well as the events of my day. The weather forecast a few days ago projected that we could get about 8 inches of snow. Last night it looked like we might get a foot. Right now we’re at about a foot and counting. It looks like we’ll have about 15-20+” by the time it’s done. My Christmas play rehearsal was cancelled, so we’ve just been hanging out at home. I made biscuits, eggs and bacon for breakfast… My (almost) 3 year son and I baked and decorated about a dozen Christmas cookies… I made some split pea & ham soup… My hubby and oldest son went out sledding for about 10

Full Speed Ahead!

Furniture Feature Friday runs through Saturday night, so make sure you scroll down to check it out and participate. I’m giving you fair warning – you had better stay out of my way right now, or you might get painted, decorated, and rearranged! I am on a tear to get things done in my house and I am having a blast. I’ve been painting, moving furniture, rearranging accessories, making topiaries, wreaths, hanging pictures, organizing my cabinets, and causing a general upheaval in my home. Of course, I’ve been snapping pictures all along the way. AND I still have attic thrift store finds to share with you. Today, I am going to share a troublesome little corner that I just made over. This corner is in our home office, which use to be the kitchen in our 1940’s house. An addition was put on the back of our home to add

There’s Nothing New Under the Sun

I’m going to call myself on this before anyone else does. This idea is in a Pottery Barn catalog and it inspired many bloggers to make a paper wreath of their own. I really liked the look of them and thought it would be a fun project to try. If you’re going to throw up if you see one more blogger make a paper wreath, you may want to scroll down and check out my bathroom makeover instead. (I finally found where I originally saw this wreath. It was at The Shabby Nest. Thanks, Wendy!) After seeing the beauty and simplicity of these wreaths, I knew immediately that I wanted to make one out of the antique sheet music I found in my grandparent’s attic. If you don’t have antique sheet music, you could buy a new paino book (or print some free off of the Internet) and tea stain

Bathroom Makeover

Whenever my mom visits the two of us get a ridiculous amount of stuff done together. In less than a week, we cleaned out my grandparent’s attic, painted my home office (twice…oops), painted my bathroom, cleaned everything we found in the attic, rearranged pictures and furniture, shopped, priced items for the shop, and took care of my boys. It was a whirlwind week. My parents left early this afternoon and I took a much needed nap. Now, it’s time to start sharing what we’ve accomplished. The picture above is what my bathroom looks like now and below is the before. I inherited this green color and it’s the only room I hadn’t painted in my home. I just didn’t know what to do with it. I wouldn’t choose to have an almond tub and toilet, a pinkish beige floor, or an oak cabinet & mirror. At this point new white

Tips on Taking Great Photos

I get a lot of nice compliments on my photography, but it has been a real learning process for me. Even though I have taken photography classes, have a really nice camera, and always made sure I had good lighting for taking pictures of my kids, I was taking crappy pictures for my website and marketing materials. I never thought I could achieve a “magazine photo” at home, so I didn’t even try. My designer finally kindly hinted that I should “stage” my pictures and try taking them in natural light without the flash. I went all over my house and took pictures of anything I had painted and e-mailed some new photos to her. As soon as I saw the materials she created with those new photos, I realized how right she was. In my business, great pictures are a very important aspect of getting new clients. This also
