RESTORE Guest Post

Whew!  I have been in a car with two toddlers and my hubby most of the day.  We drove from Pennsylvania down to Raleigh, North Carolina to spend a week with family.  Since it’s a packed day, I am so happy to have a guest here to share a great project with you.  I “met” Kelli from Re Store Interiors a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved her blog.  She has great style, great pictures, great content…all of the components of a great blog.  She’s also a great person.  Did I say she’s great?  Yeah, she is.  So, without further delay, here’s Kelli… “Greetings to all of you fantastic Miss Mustard Seed readers! I am so honored to be guest posting today on one of the most fabulous blogs on the planet. I seriously mean that…I love Miss Mustard Seed and we have never even met face to face, but I

Christmas Open House

Today, I crammed another HGTV.com project in when I had the chance and I made the trip down to Wild Rose and Chartreuse.  I enjoy both of those shops every time I walk in the door.  I could just wander around and look at the displays and beautiful decor.  Today was the holiday open house at Wild Rose, so it was all decked out for the holidays. Lynette does an amazing job arranging things to make every one’s stuff look good.  Isn’t this sign by Molly amazing? I popped over to Chartreuse and something big was missing from our space… Yes, it sold.  I was happy and sad at the same time.  I hope whoever bought it really loves it and will give it a good home.  Sniff. I forgot to share one exciting thing from our Swanky Junque Swap last weekend…  I was interviewed by Stephanie from Dial M For Minky,

Junque Swap Rules & My Picks

As I shared yesterday, we had a great time at the Swanky Junque Swap.  I received some questions about how we ran it, so I thought I would share our “rules” and an explanation of how the swap would work.  This was my first swap ever, so Karen and I just went with what sounded good and seemed to make sense.  Here’s what we came up with… Swanky Junque Swap Rules We all want to leave the swap with something really cool, right? In order for that to happen, we all have to bring something really cool, so here are the guidelines… • Bring two items with a minimum value of $20, but the sky is the limit. An “item” can be a group of smaller items to make a “lot.” Minimum value can be estimated and it’s what the market value is, not what you paid for it. • Items

Swanky Junque Swap

It was a beautiful autumn day in the quiet town of Walkersville, MD, and in a church basement, ten women laughed, cried, ate, and traded their junk.  It was a glorious day.   The women who attended were Brittanie, Holly May, Candace, Sarah, Karen (The Graphics Fairy)… …another Karen, Holly, Stephanie (and her husband), and Jamie, who somehow managed to dodge my camera.  We had yummy boxed lunches from The Corner Bakery and even yummier cake bites from Snickety Snacks made by Brittanie.  (I ate three of these and brought four home.  Two are in my fridge, but they’re calling my name.  Brittanie assured me that these were like eating a forkful of cake, so it was okay to eat a bunch!) This was an amazing group of women.  We hugged, we burst out in laughter, and Holly was crying about ten minutes into our lunch conversation.  I told her I was going

What you see. What you don’t.

I’m sure you all think that my home is always clean, photo worthy and well decorated.  Well, that’s just what you see.  This is what you don’t.  This is what my house typically looks like on a Sunday afternoon.  Pizza, junk food, football, and teenage boys.  They are all huddled around a laptop checking out their fantasy football scores…including my husband.  Well, what’s a home if it’s not enjoyed?  Right? And, in case my neighbors didn’t think I was crazy enough, I was on my front lawn at 9:00 at night taking pictures of hand made tombstones in candlelight.  I even “borrowed” some leaves from my neighbors since my husband mowed our lawn today.  I have no shame.  I just hope no one calls child protective services.   “…and she stole my leaves and set up a candlelit graveyard on her front yard.  It’s unnatural, I tell you.”

Musical Furniture

One of the perks to buying and selling antiques is I constantly have new pieces coming in that I can play with in my house.  The only pieces that are off limits to sell are family pieces.  Everything else is fair game, even the table and dining chairs straight out of my dining room, so my house is now in a constant state of flux.  This is what my living room looks like today… …and here is what it looked like only a year ago.  The paint?  Changed.  Furniture arrangement?  Changed.  Settee?  Gone.  Both side chairs?  Gone.  Curtains?  Gone.  Mirror and coffee table?  Yep, you guessed it, gone. I would say this is what my dining room looks like now, but as I mentioned,  I sold this dining room set this summer.  I changed the paint in this room as well, getting rid of my decorative flourishes and bringing in

The Change

All moms (and dads) out there who love decorating their home know about “the change.”  It’s what happens to your house when you bring kids into the equation.  I’ve always been a neat freak and I was determined to stay one when I first learned I was pregnant. I was not going to have a house full of bouncy seats, jumparoos, Boppies and Bumbos. I was not going to be overrun with toddler toys. I was going to keep my tabletops beautifully decorated, my kitchen floors spotless and my carpets stain free. There was even a point when I refused to have plastic cups in my cabinet. Then, I brought a baby home from the hospital and all of that changed. I must admit that it took me a while to realize it, though. I even changed my little boy anytime he got a drip on his outfit, but I finally
