live pure sign

A few months ago, I was contacted by Tara of Between You & Me.  Tara and her husband design and make beautiful wood signs for the home.  After looking through their signs, I fell in love with this one…           It says it all.  Simple and true.  I immediately thought this would be great to hang in my boy’s room, which will be a project I’d like to work on in a few months…hopefully!  In addition to the “Live Pure” sign, they also make a family rules sign… …a city sign, quotes, Bible verses and custom signs.  You can take a look at all of the signs they have to offer HERE. In addition to showing their beautiful signs, I have to share how wonderful their customer service was.  They sent a sign to me before the Lucketts Antique Market and I broke it trying to remove

Goose Creek Candle Company Giveaway

One of the cool things about blogging is getting to share about products I enjoy.  Sometimes it’s something I’ve used for years, sometimes I get to try a product I’ve never used or heard of before.  When I was contacted by Goose Creek Candle Company, it was the latter.  I had never heard of them, but decided to check them out.  I’m not one of those people who has a candle lit every waking hour, but I do love the coziness and warmth of a scented candle on my counter top.  Baking an apple pie daily to fill the house with the smells of cinnamon and nutmeg isn’t very practical for my figure or schedule, so I can just light a candle and let the same yumminess waft through the air.   Goose Creek’s candles smell so nice, but aren’t overpowering.  I don’t want my house to smell like it’s

My Sophomore Year

My experience with True Value started with a contest I felt I might be able to win. I entered a video of my 1940’s bathroom (in which my toddler son waddled in and flushed the toilet) and then your votes helped me win. (It’s so funny seeing the progression of my hair.  Can you tell I’m someone who likes change?) I was able to transform my bathroom from this… …to this… When True Value asked me to be a part of their DIY Blog Squad last year, it seemed like a very natural thing for me to be involved. I worked on many projects over the year with the help from the amazing people at Cashman’s True Value Hardware in East Berlin, PA.  The biggest project was painting all of my kitchen cabinets, the walls, and the ceiling in my kitchen and family room.  I also replaced all of the hardware on the doors and drawers.

fun with burlap ribbon

A few weeks ago, I received a huge roll of burlap ribbon from burlapfabric.com and I knew it was going to come in handy.  I love having something like this in my supply stash.  It’s so versatile.  So, I kept it sitting in a vintage grocery basket in my office until inspiration hit. I was in the frenzy to get ready for the Lucketts fair when it hit.  As I’m preparing for a big event, I want to make the most of it, so I suddenly try to finish things that have been sitting around unfinished.  I had some wood framed chalkboards from a craft store that I had set aside to paint.  It was the day before and I didn’t have time to wait for paint to dry.  Hmmm…the burlap ribbon.  It was the perfect size to wrap around the frame and hot glue it on.   It was quick, simple and they sold!

Robbed

Remember my word of the year?  It’s CELEBRATE!  Well, I have to remind myself about that often when I start feeling stressed and anxious about really good things that are going on.  When I was getting ready to go to New York to film the Nate Show, I was almost physically ill fretting over what I was going to wear.  As I was getting ready for the Lucketts Fair, all of my insecurities were popping up and I was certain everything I made wasn’t good enough and I would be a disappointment.  You know what that stuff…that junk…that total crap we do to ourselves is?  Robbery!  It’s taking something that’s awesome, that should be celebrated, and morphing it into something you should be afraid of.   I found myself getting all worked up over it when I saw girls fretting about what to wear to Haven.  I’m not sitting in judgement,

Furniture Makeovers

Furniture Block

You found an awesome piece of furniture on Craig’s List or at a yard sale for a great price.  You bring it home and load it into your garage, maybe adding it to the large pile of other furniture finds.  Maybe you have plans to use the piece in your home, you want to start selling pieces to earn some extra income, or you’re planning to bring it to your established retail space.  Days pass…then weeks.  You’re stumped.  You’re not sure what color to paint it or what style to finish it in.  Should you distress it?  What kind of paint should you use?  Should you test out a new technique you’ve been wanting to try?  You have “furniture block.”  …and you’re not alone. I get asked this kind of question a lot and was recently asked something along these lines by one of my readers through my Facebook page, so I thought
