True Value DIY Blog Squad Q & A

I’m heading down to Lucketts today with my mom to drop off some things in my space and to do some shopping.  Really fun shopping that I’ll tell you about later.  While on the road, though, I’ll be taking full advantage of modern technology and will answer questions asked of me on the TrueValue FaceBook Page using my iPhone.  As most of you know, my specialty is paint, so feel free to ask questions about all types of paint, brushes, rollers, top coats, finishes, etc.  This is also a great time to talk about holiday decorating…’tis the season, right?  You can really ask about anything you want, though.  You have the floor! Speaking of the True Value Blog Squad, I finally have some projects lined up.  I had grand plans, but realized I just wasn’t up for any major projects, so I decided to tackle some smaller ones.  I’ll be installing

from two to one

I don’t always get things right the first time when it comes to furniture makeovers.  I finished this piece, but it never sat right with me.  I didn’t like the hardware and the finish wasn’t my favorite.  I let it sit in my foyer for a few months until I decided to tackle it again.   The first thing that had to change was the hardware.  It’s not bad, but just not right for this piece.  I decided I wanted to go with knobs instead of pulls, so I needed to fill one of the holes.   If I pressed a bunch of wood filler into one of these holes, as I’ve done many times in the past, it would squirt out the back of the hole, as it has done many times in the past.  This time, I put my noodle and some Frog Tape to work and covered

Shades of Blue

A few years ago, I read a design article that said you shouldn’t mix more than two shades of blue.         I’m such a rebel.

MMS Decor Steals Pick of the Month

Welcome to another Decor Steals MMS Pick of the Month!  As usual, I get to pick a couple of my favorite things to use in my own home and to share them with you.  I have a little thing for service/hospitality items like linens, china, cake pedestals and the like.  It’s a little ridiculous, actually, but I couldn’t help but fall in love with these elegant place card holders. I like pieces like this that can be used for their intended purpose, but also for other things.  These would be great holding a picture, a little note or reminder, really any piece of paper.   And, as always, here’s a peek at tomorrow’s steal (which I also picked out)… This iron ladder is another multi-functional piece that can be used to hold magazines, towels, blankets, pots and pans from hooks in a kitchen, even stockings and greenery for Christmas. Of course,

…it’s like having a birthday

My family moved to Garmisch Partenkirchen in Germany when I finished preschool, so I started kindergarten in a new school.  I’m assuming the teacher didn’t have my records yet, because on the first day of school, she asked when my birthday was.  Being a little girl who loved attention and my birthday, I didn’t want to waste a good opportunity.  “It’s today!” I got to wear a crown and received a goodie bag and the class sang to me.  It was the perfect plan executed without a hitch by a sneaky little five year old hiding behind a smile and platinum blonde curls…  until my parents met with my teacher a few weeks later.  My teacher proceeded to tell my parents how adorable I was celebrating my birthday on the first day of school.  I suddenly wasn’t so adorable when my parents informed my teacher that my birthday was in

Running a Creative Business | On Sutton Place

I think that stories are a powerful thing.  I love hearing a good story about how someone got from point a to point b.  There’s something encouraging about it.  If she can do it, maybe I could too.   I’ve asked some of my friends and fellow entrepreneurs to share their story and now it’s time to hear from Ann of Sutton Place Designs.  She is one of my sponsors, but this is not a sponsored post.  She’s a business woman who has impressed me every step of the way and I wanted to share her story and advice with you.  Enjoy!   Hello everyone. Before I get started I have a confession to make. I was shaking in my boots and so nervous with just the thought of guest posting on Marian’s blog. After all, like Jami Clune said, it’s a magic blog. Now that I’m actually here, the
