We actually spent the day on I-95 and will be celebrating our Thanksgiving tomorrow, but I wanted to take a minute on the “official day” to let you know how thankful I am for all of you!  I know you get to know a lot more about me than I do about you, but I appreciate your comments, support, encouragement, opinions, prayers and everything you give to me in return for sharing my thoughts, decorating antics and business journey with you each day on this blog. “Thank you” just doesn’t seem to cover it… but, thank you.

Time for a reset & second chances

So, after reading all of the opinions I solicited about my family room, I wrote a post about my thoughts and plans.  The post turned into a rather disjointed mess-of-a-conversation with myself about the room and the direction I’m heading.  I went to sleep thinking about rugs and fabrics and paint colors and furniture arrangements.  I woke up this morning and started rolling up rugs and stared at the room with my head cocked slightly at an angle, thumb on my chin, pointer finger resting on my nose, tapping occasionally as I lulled around the space.  I then realized a couple of things… First of all, I need to just step away from the room for a few days, which I am fortunately doing.  My husband and I are taking a mini-vacation to Charlottesville, VA for some hiking, good food and to tour Monticello and walk around the beautiful UVA

Want to shop with me in Raleigh?

My husband’s family lives in Raleigh, NC, so we usually head down that way for Thanksgiving and we will continue that tradition this year.  A couple of years ago, I asked if anyone wanted to meet me for some shopping at the Raleigh Flea Market as well as some local antique shops and to grab some lunch together. We had a wonderful group of ladies show up and we had a blast!  Isn’t it a riot to see how much hair changes?  I’ve always been afraid of getting stuck in a hairdo and I think I’m overcompensating!  Anyway, we met at the flea market and milled around together.  Some were there to shop and others were just enjoying getting to know other gals in the area who loved antiques and blogs and fixing up old farmhouses.  It was neat for me to see the connections made. We then headed for

You can never have too many French chairs…

I’m sure you can, but I’m testing out this theory in full.  I haven’t actually counted, but I’m pretty sure I have at least 20 French-styled chairs in my home and I still get heart flutters when I see one for sale.  So, as I was curating collections on eBay, it was a no brainer to pick out some lovely French chairs and give them a collection all of their own.  Here are some of the chairs that caught my eye…           Yep.  Flutters. I’ve curated some other collections including imaginary rooms I’ve designed like the Redskins Mancave, a Vintage Nautical Boy’s Bedroom, and an Equestrian Study. If you’re interested in seeing the other collections on my eBay profile, you can follow me HERE.  Use #followitfind it when sharing your favorite collections! By the way eBay is giving away $25,000 to shop when you share your favorite eBay collection. You can

Pottery Barn PINterior Decorating Challenge

Over the past few months, I’ve been working on saying “no” to more and more things.  But, when Pottery Barn asked if I would be a part of the Pottery Barn PINterior Decorating Challenge…well, how could I say no to that?  Here’s the basic idea of the challenge…Pottery Barn would send a “mystery item” from their catalog and then I would have to use it in two creative ways.  I’m competing against four of my peer bloggers (Shaunna, Beth, Melissa and Emily.)  A few days after signing on, I received the item from Pottery Barn.  It was a set of Tanner Nesting Tables… I unpacked the tables and put them in my office while I pondered how to use them in two creative ways.  The only rule was that I wasn’t allowed to alter the tables. LOOK ONE  The thing that immediately came to mind was to stack them to make

getting inspired, shopping & hanging plates

I go through stages in decorating and working on projects.  Sometimes I’m a worker bee and it’s all about getting as much done as I possibly can.  Sometimes I’m burnt out and need to step away from the the projects for a while.  Sometimes I get restless and just want to make changes.  Sometimes I’m a sponge, ready to soak in any inspiration that comes my way.  The past few days, I’ve been feeling spongy.  And when I feel that way, I start to hit the magazine rack at the grocery store and pull out decorating books in my library.  As much as I love Pinterest, nothing quite beats flipping through glossy pages. One of my favorite books is Great Country French Style that I got for Christmas a few years ago. I haven’t looked at it for a long time, but as I was flipping through it, I can

Updates, a Preview & Lip Stain

My boys have a four day weekend, so that means we get to sleep in, the house is a little messier and I don’t get quite as much done in a day.  We need days like that every once in a while.  It’s funny, though, I’ve been dragging all week and now I am ready to reupholster and paint and work on projects, but I really won’t get the chance until probably Tuesday or Wednesday next week.  I may do some of that work at night, but we’ll see.  So, I’m just sharing a few updates tonight. First off, I have an amazing girl working for me, Heidi, and she has been sprucing up some of the pages on my blog that were woefully outdated or difficult to navigate.  I’m most excited about the HGTV.com article page.  She has listed and linked to all of the tutorials I have written
