Video Slipcover Tutorial Series Part 3 & Wing Chair Reveal

Welcome to part three of the video slipcover tutorial series.  First, I’m going to share the “after” picture of the wing chair I used as my example in the video.  Didn’t it turn out great?  It’s currently for sale at the Old Lucketts Store.  I forgot to get a picture of the row of ribbon ties down the back.  They look so good!  Bummer. I didn’t take a “before” picture of it, so here’s a still from the video.  Everywhere I paused it, I either had my mouth open or a smirk on my face, so I went with the smirk.  Lovely. If you missed the previous videos, you can view them here… Part One – Custom Piping Part Two – Cutting the Fabric Part three covers how to position the fabric on the chair and pin fit the back.  I ramble a bit, mainly because I don’t want to

Video Slipcover Tutorial Series Part 2 – Cutting Fabric

Welcome to part two of the slipcover video tutorial series!  If you missed part one, how to make custom piping, make sure you go back and watch it first. In part two, I share some tricks on cutting the drop cloth and show where to position piping on the chair.  Enjoy! Here is a full transcript of this video – MMS-Slipcover-Part2 Ooo…I mention wanting to get a serger sewing machine in this video and guess what?  I received an e-mail from a local reader (who didn’t know I wanted one) who asked if I wanted her gently used Berina serger machine.  Um…yeah!  Thanks so, so much Winnie!

Video Slipcover Series Part 1 – Custom Piping

It’s finally here!!  At long last!  I know I have been dragging my feet on this one and I finally took the time to make the first segment in my promised video slipcover series.  (I told you I would get a lot done with my mom here!) We’re going to start this journey where I always start when making a slipcover – sewing the custom piping.   Click HERE for a transcript of this video. If you’d like more information on working with drop cloths, check out these posts… Working with drop cloths More on drop cloths Since writing the posts above, I have stopped bleaching the drop cloths I work with.  I have found that I don’t mind the natural color and it saves a whole lot of bleach and wash cycles, but bleaching definitely does lighten them, if that’s the look you want. Up next in the series… I

Sofa Transformation

I promised I would share all of the details of my living room makeover, so here is the second installment.  This sofa was given to me by my awesome Aunt and Uncle.  They brought me a truck load of furniture in May including the corner cabinets in my dining room, a great chandelier that’s in Wild Rose and this sofa.  It belonged to my Uncle’s mother and it’s got some good age to it.  It was damaged in a fire, though, but was professionally restored, so it was in outstanding condition.  The foam and upholstery were in perfect shape, as was the wood frame.  Here’s the rub.  Although the upholstery fabric wasn’t bad, it wasn’t going to work with my curtains.  So, I did what any self-respecting DIYer on a budget would do…I slipcovered it in drop cloths.  My father-in-law gasped at my covering up the beautiful upholstery, but even he agreed it would

Slipcovered Chair & Latest Finds

The dentist office called… …they want their fabric back.  Oh, why on God’s green earth would someone want to cover a chair in fabric that looks like it belongs as wallpaper in a doctor’s office?  Why would any doctor or dentist want that on their walls, anyway?  I don’t know, but they all do.  Anyway, someone did this horrible thing to these chairs.  It’s like a pretty girl wearing an ugly dress to the prom.  So, I made these girls new dresses.  They need a bit more ironing, but cut me a break…they look a lot better! My dear friend, Leslie, gave me this set of four chairs.  The shape is great, but you already know how I feel about the fabric.  I made custom slipcovers for two of them out of drop cloths.  Much better.  These are coming to the barn sale set-up with me on Monday…after being ironed.

Something For Me

As most of you know, I have been a busy girl making things for Lucketts, for my new booth, for clients and writing tutorials for HGTV.com, so my poor house has been neglected.  I’m ashamed to say that there were a few weeks where I hardly cleaned the place.  (I did clean my bathrooms, but the dust, the carpets and the floors were a disgrace!)  I finally got caught up with my cleaning and I mopped the floors, shampooed the carpets and cleaned every room head to toe.  Now, I’m feeling the itch for some “me” time.  Some girls want to go shoe shopping, read a novel or get a message.  I want to work on my house.  I still have a huge business to-do list, but I snuck about an hour of time for myself and finally made a cover for the pillow form that’s been sitting on my

Lucketts Love Seat & Something’s Missing

As most of you know, I’ve been working like a maniac to get as much done for Lucketts as I possibly can.  It’s next weekend and the anticipation (and pile of stuff) is building.  This is the latest addition. This is how this love seat looks underneath the slipcover.  It reminds me of something that would furnish a dentist’s waiting room.  You know that textured pastel wallpaper that is in almost every doctor/dentist office?  Yeah…this looks like that.  The curvy French Provincial shape was perfect, though.  I made the slipcover out of bleached drop cloths and used some grosgrain ribbon to tie it onto the wood frame.  I love how it turned out and how it looks with my feed sack pillows.  I found this folding camping table in my grandparent’s attic and painted it in a soft, distressed gray.  I purchased the balance scale at a yard sale this morning.  This

Feed Sack Pillows

First of all, the winner of the Well of Creations camera bag giveaway is Teresa!  Congrats!  I do not have an e-mail for you, so please send me an e-mail to claim your prize. Well, I have been a busy girl, so I’ve been a little quiet on my blog the past couple of days.  You lovely ladies have not been quiet, though!  Holy Cow!  I can’t believe how popular “Miss Mustard Seed in a Box” is.  I wish I had a few hundred to give away.  It’s been a real encouragement for me to read all of your comments and compliments.  Thanks so much for making my blog what it is today.  We had some friends from our church over for lunch today, so that kept me away and yesterday one of our youth girls came over for some help with making a dress.  Now, I do not make
