Lucketts Fall Market 2023

Another Lucketts Market has come and gone and, I must say that I love attending the event as a shopper instead of a vendor.  Both are fun, but it’s a lot more enjoyable to just show up and enjoy all of the creativity and hard work of others! At the last two Lucketts Markets (Fall 2022 and then Spring 2023), I had very specific large pieces I was looking for.  I needed pieces for my studio and then pieces for my kitchen.  In both cases, I found just what I was looking for.  I still have a few big pieces I’m looking for, but none of them are pressing.  I have pieces that will work until I find something that is perfect.  I still debated renting a cargo van for the market just in case I found one of those perfect pieces.  After discussing it with Jeff and considering the

a simple home upgrade

In the middle of larger projects that have to be spaced out over a few days, weeks, or months, I like to sprinkle in ones that take a few minutes.  It helps me make progress and check something off the to-do list when I’m creaking from bigger projects or I’m working on other things.  And, I have to say, it’s amazing how impactful some of those little projects can be. One of the home upgrades that is relatively inexpensive and pretty much anyone can do is to change out the hardware on cabinets and closet doors.  It’s especially impactful if you’re upgrading from hardware that is “builder grade” or dated. I’ve wanted to change out the hardware on the cabinet in the family room from the time we moved in (can you believe that’s been over a year), but I was going to wait until I painted the room and

front door details

Last week, I showed our front door makeover HERE and in this post, I wanted to share the hardware details as well as how the door looks from the inside of the house now.  It is a small change, but it really makes such a difference with the curb appeal of the house.  The porch and front door look fresh and inviting.  I admire it every time I walk or drive by now, although I do cringe a bit at the naked, weedy garden beds, but we’ll get there. Here is how the foyer and front door looked shortly after we moved in.  I actually liked the green paint and the wallpaper, but the paper was peeling and stained in a few places, so it was time for it to be removed. Here is how it looks now.  In addition to the recent work on the front door, we installed

1970 home renovation | painting the shutters & front door

Over the past week, I set aside a couple of days to continue chipping away on painting the exterior of the house.  You can see the first two posts about painting the exterior of the house HERE and HERE.  My goal is to get the front, driveway side, and back of the house primed and painted before the cold weather sets in.  The fourth side of the house is covered in a thick hedge, so we need to get that trimmed and cleaned up before we work on painting that side.  With two gables, two walls of siding, and the porch, the front was going to be the biggest challenge and that is almost done! Late last week, I took the day to prep, prime, and paint the front door and the shutters along the front of the house.  I’ve been stalling on painting the front door for months because

the 1810 mantel

A few weeks ago, when I was out and about to pick up the recliner for the living room, I decided to stop in one of my favorite local antique shops.  In case you missed the recliner, I found it on Facebook Marketplace and slipcovered it with the help of my mom.  Here’s what it looks like now, but you can read about how we made the slipcover HERE. Anyway, my primary objective was to find antique and vintage frames for my original artwork, but right away, I spotted an antique mantel leaning up against the front of the store.  Just by eye-balling it, I thought it might be a good fit for our living room fireplace.  Before I get into the details of the mantel, let me remind you what the fireplace looks like… I really love the brick and the fact that it’s a wood-burning fireplace.  We’ve never

Before and Afters

the vintage Drexel dining set & recovering a chair seat

A few of you noticed the new dining room set when I shared the fall tablescape earlier this week.  We bought an antique dining set last year just a few days before Christmas off of Facebook Marketplace for $40.  I had been searching for a dining set since we moved into the house and I just wasn’t finding the one.  I was feeling a bit bummed about not having a table and chairs for the dining room for Christmas, though, so I jumped at the chance to get a set for $40.  That was less than we would spend on a dinner out for our family so it was worth it. We made a few initial repairs to some of the chairs as well as to the stretchers on the table and it was good enough, but the table was just a little bit too wide for the room and

fall entertaining with Walmart

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Walmart.  As always, all words and opinions expressed are honest and my own. Last week was the first week that felt like fall and it was glorious.  I mourn that the pool has become a polar bear swimming experience, but that is about all I’ll miss about summer.  I love it when cooler weather comes in and I can don my hoodies and slippers.  I also love decorating during fall and winter perhaps more than any other season. I don’t do a ton of specific holiday decorating, but I love seasonal decorating with elements that speak to that season as well as natural items. I did a bit of shopping on Walmart to find some new items to mix into vintage and antique finds as well as some natural seasonal elements.  I usually show finished tables, but I thought it would be fun to

maple house collective | small shop spotlight

A few years ago, I worked with The Maple House Collective, a small business based in Washington state that sells antiques and housewares online and eventually in a renovated barn.  I love following the journey of Phoebe and her family for a few reasons.  First of all, the aesthetic of the shop is stunning.  Phoebe is amazing at curation, styling, and photography.  Second, I love that it’s a family business and they all work very hard together.  You want to shop from them and root for them and it always feels good to buy from a business like that. When she reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in doing some product photography, I said yes without any hesitation.  As a small business owner myself, I know how nice it is to get a fresh eye on your products and to receive some photos you didn’t
