teacup & pedestal advent wreath

Last year, I made an advent wreath out of an ironstone ring mold.  I was planning to do the same this year, but my ring mold was at the studio when I was in the heat of the decorating moment, so I shifted gears.  (Of course, I could’ve hopped in the car and made the two-minute drive to the studio to get it, but that seems like too much of a disruption to someone who is in the thick of a creative moment.) I tend to thrive on decorating MacGyver-style, anyway.  Well, sometimes.  Some of my best ideas have happened on the fly.  But then again, sometimes I get impatient and force things and it’s a disaster.  And the worst part is that I know it’s a disaster even as I’m doing it.  Like the time I thought it was a good idea to hot-glue exterior velvet ribbon to the

decorating the studio & shop with me in Raleigh

I was home with a sick kid most of last week and, I have to admit, that once I get out of a routine, it’s hard to get back into it.  I was ready to get back in the studio, but I was dragging my feet at the same time.  On Tuesday, though, I had a full day to crank my music, create and take pictures, and my motivation started creeping back in. Sometimes I need to work on things that are totally not a priority in order to get myself going. On Tuesday, that meant rearranging furniture and getting fake snow in my hair and all over myself as I set up our studio tree. It’s the 6.5′ Flocked Alaskan Tree from Christmas Tree Market.  So, here is the story with this tree.  Christmas Tree Market asked if I would be interested in partnering with them last Christmas.  I had just moved into

my favorite things 2015

Today I’m joining Melissa of 320 Sycamore and a few other bloggers in sharing a few of my favorite things!  She was one of the first bloggers I met and is such a genuine and encouraging person, so I loved the chance to team up with her and some of her favorite bloggers. I decided to share a mix of things I’ve loved for a long time, things that are new loves and things that I would be very sad to do without. And, here they are… (Disclosure, this post is not sponsored by any of the products I share, but it does contain affiliate links.) Mrs. Meyers Lavender cleaner – This makes the whole house smell amazing! Wood-handled dish brushes – I bought these for the way they look, but they are the best dish brushes I have ever owned.  I want to hoard them. Oreck steam mop – I received

idea overload & glass glitter banner kits

This weekend, I’m presenting at the Holiday Expo at McLean Bible Church, just outside of DC.  (I shared the details HERE, if you’re interested in attending.)  With a sick kid, I was a little behind with getting my presentation together, but I’m going to the set up and rehearsal tomorrow, so I needed to get myself in gear today! As I’ve been thinking about what table setting I want to present, I found my head swimming with ideas.  Too many ideas for one table. Idea overload.  I don’t usually feel that way, so I was very indecisive about which direction I would go. In that moment of feeling overwhelmed with all the possibilities, I realized that a lot of blog readers and Pinterest lovers must feel that way. This expo is about bringing Pinterest and Etsy to life, so I felt like I should share ideas that are popular on those

10 minute fall decorating

It’s time for another 10 minute decorating idea!  This month, me and a few other bloggers are sharing 10-minute fall decorating ideas.  I love these quick and easy ideas that show seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or over the top.  It can be simple, fun, and pretty. As I’ve shared before, when it comes to my home and seasonal decor, I keep things fairly simple and natural.  I’m really over the idea of having tons of bins of decorations that have to be stored and brought out each year.  I know some people thrive on that and it brings them a lot of joy.  If that’s you, go for it!  If you want to bring a bit of autumn to your home, though, without all of the bins, here are some simple fall decorating ideas… simple fall decorating idea no. 1 | place some pumpkins A no-brainer

Christmas 2014 recap

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!  I had a truly wonderful day with Jeff, my boys, my brother and his wife and my parents.  There was the usual frenzy of opening presents, but it was even more enjoyable this year because the boys are at such a sweet age.  They’re old enough to really get it, but young enough to run around in footie jammies all day. I received mostly gift cards (Anthro, Ulta, iTunes and ModCloth), a “zoodle” maker (for spiral-cutting vegetables), some Crocs that are lined (I wear my Crocs often, but my feet get cold in the winter) and a few other things. I set the table and did a lot of food prep the day before, so I was able to putter around the kitchen at a comfortable pace to get everything ready.  My mom and brother also made a few of the dishes, so it

Christmas Inspiration

I was going to post the second look for the Arabesque dresser I shared yesterday, but I realized I had one more Christmas post to share and I has better share it before it isn’t Christmas any longer!  I don’t usually share the work of others here, except for my favorites on FFF.  It’s not that I don’t like to link up and support others, but I don’t want my voice to get thinned out by sharing the content of others too often.  I am also a bit compulsive about writing blog posts! It’s an outlet and can be very therapeutic for me. Today, though, I am featuring some beautiful photos styled by Melanie Beilner, taken by Annetta Bosakova.  They are both extremely talented ladies and I thought it was worth sharing this shoot… (I’m really into seeded eucalyptus this year.  We used some for the Cottages & Bungalows shoot we
