favorite things 2019

Today, I’m excited to be a part of the 10 year anniversary of Favorite Things by Melissa of 320 Sycamore!  She is one of the first bloggers I ever met.  We met nine years ago at the Blissdom blog conference and, unbeknownst to her, she became one of my mentors.  I looked at her as an example of how to be a generous and authentic blogger.  I have loved watching her, her blog, and her family grow over the years.  So, this is a fun thing for me to participate in again!  (You can find my favorites from 2015 HERE.) This list is a little different from my typical monthly favorite things list.  This is a list of things I love that I think will make good gifts or you may want to add them to your wish list.  I have a mix of items from different categories and price

Armchair inspiration

There is only so much sitting and watching TV that I can handle.  Don’t get me wrong…I love a lazy day now and then or a movie marathon, but I’ve been operating at 50% or less for a few weeks now.  Especially during the first two weeks of recovery, I was medicated, sore, tired, and not good for much of anything.  I didn’t even want to watch a show that involved following a plot.  It just required too much of me. But, as I started to heal and feel better, I found myself daydreaming about future projects and creative endeavors.  I started watching shows that centered more around the creative process like the Great British Baking Show and Project Runway.  And the daydreaming and desire for inspiration led me to dig into some old and new magazines and books, which are one of my favorite wells to draw from. I

Lucca Purchases

One of the things I was looking forward to most about our day trip to Lucca was visiting Officina Della Pelle, the family-owned leather store I bought so many beautiful pieces from last year. Last year, I visited the leather store at the end of the day, so I wasn’t able to get any of my pieces monogrammed.  I was too excited about the antiques to fuss over leather!  This year, though, I knew some pieces I wanted and I wanted to have them monogrammed, so I stopped there first. I ended up purchasing a small brown leather messenger bag… It’s actually the same style as the green purse I bought last year,  but it’s larger and I went with a traditional brown color.  It’s a great size to use when you need to carry a bag that’s larger than a purse, but smaller than a backpack. It’s is s

apples, gifts & cozy white cottage giveaway

While I’ve been healing from my surgery, people have been so generous to us.  We’ve been brought meals and I’ve received notes, cards, and gift cards to get takeout.  It’s all been such a blessing.  It’s just an arm, but it was major surgery and requires lots of time and rest in the first few weeks.  I’ve still just been working part-time, but I’ve been up and about more…going on short walks, out to run errands, to church, to small group, and to the climbing gym to watch the boys lead climb for the first time. My mom left on Saturday and it was hard to let her go.  She’s been a tremendous help!  She’s taken care of Sebastian, ran me to appointments and on errands.  She did dishes, cooked, picked the boys up from school, and helped me blow dry & style my hair.  Friday, she spent the day

linen bee napkins

Just before I left for Europe, I received a package from .  I have worked with them for years as a sponsor and a paying customer.  I’ve worn their dresses to China, Europe, and all over the US. They are my favorite custom-made linen clothes.  So, I’m always excited when I get a package from them! In this order, I received some shirts and a dress to wear on my trip, but I also received a preview of some new fabrics… …a smock-style apron, and some napkins. Isn’t this stack just yummy? I wore the shirts, dresses, and apron throughout my Europe trip… I love the weight of these napkins (they are a little lighter than my vintage linen napkins) and the blue and white striped pattern.  I do actually use cloth napkins, so it’s nice to have a few more to add to my collection.  Most of my napkins

August 2019 Favorites

As I look back over August, it was a good month!  I had a lot of favorites as summer was winding down and fall started to creep in with the changing of the leaves on a few trees and school starting. Usually, August is hot and it drags on, but that has not been the case this year, thankfully! Here were some of my favorites… Cool summer days August has been unusually cool here in Minnesota and I am not complaining.  It has been delightful.  I love it when I can break out the hoodies and the leaves start changing.  Yep, I still love winter even after the polar vortex and record-breaking February snows of last winter.  Bring it on. Steal Like an Artist I loved Austin Kleon’s book Keep Going and I loved Steal Like an Artist, too.  It’s an easy read and it’s so encouraging. You Will Be Found

July 2019 Favorites

I thought I should fit this post in before we get to September!  Man, August is just flying by.  I remember looking over the three months of summer approaching when we were in May and I felt like it would be an eternity.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the laziness of summer.  I enjoy sleeping in a little bit later, not having to prepare lunches or work on school projects. I like that the pace of activities is a little slower.  But, as an entrepreneur who runs my business out of my house, it’s really hard to balance work and having the kids home all day.  I want to do fun things with them, but I also have commitments and deadlines. Well, we’ve managed to balance it all out (some days better than others) and the summer that threatened to drag on is now coming to a rapid end.

ABLE leather backpack & other pretty workhorses

I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes or shoes or purses or jewelry.  I don’t eat out a lot or get expensive coffees every day.  I don’t get the works done to my hair every eight weeks and I don’t get my nails and toes done with any regularity. What I do buy is good supplies.  I love notebooks, binders, portfolios, pens, pencils, papers, pouches, and anything that’s a pretty workhorse. My newest pretty workhorse is a from … I saw this bag first when I visited Shaunna in Florida.  It caught my eye, but I didn’t ask her about it. When she visited me a couple of weeks ago, I admired it again and this time asked about it.  It’s the .  Well, it wasn’t a day or two later that I ordered it.  She has owned hers for a couple of years and has traveled with
