Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint

…presentation!

First of all, thank you so much to all of those who left comments on my post yesterday. For those who said it!  I hope you all pursue those dreams and check in now and then to let us know how things are going.  I’ll have to put up post to give those an opportunity who want to share. I was working on some packaging yesterday and a quote from the movie Megamind came into my head.  There’s a part of the movie when Magamind is battling another villain named Titan.  The exchange goes something like this… Megamind to Titan, “You’re a villain alright, just not a super one.” Titan, “Oh yeah?  What’s the difference?” Megamind, “Presentation!” (I have 4 & 5 year old boys.  Welcome to my world.) We decided to keep things simple and have each retailer package the samples of milk paint in small bags with stickers.  I love the stickers

Furniture Feature Friday | Link Party

I am kickin’ it with my family this week, so I didn’t pick favorites, but you can still link up and mingle!  Have fun! Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite pieces, furniture arrangements, or even pieces on your wish list! Built-in furniture like kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities qualify as furniture. 2.) Post a permalink (the link to the post), not the link to your blog. 3.) This party will close Friday at midnight PST and I will choose my favorite(s) and feature their piece(s) on next week’s FFF. Enjoy the party!

Glitter, Stir Sticks & Bella Rustica

For years I have been making glittered letters to sell in my space, first at the Lucketts Fair, then at Wild Rose and finally in my space at Lucketts. They always sell well, but they are tedious to make and are pretty messy. My move to the lobby left me without a great place to hang my over-sized magnet board, so I decided it was a good time to switch gears.   Instead of selling the glittered letters, I’m going to sell the glitter.  That way people can make their own glittered letters or glittered whatevers!  I still plan to do a ton of glittering for Christmas, but I won’t carry the magnetic letters.  I had fun putting a little display together for it…      I’m still working out the packaging, but for now I’m selling it in these miniature clear paint cans.     So, we’ll see how

Getting Milk Paint Super Smooth…

This week seems to be all about me being in front of the camera. I’m making video tutorials for my milk paint line, videos for the enhanced e-book version of my book (coming out in November), AND I have a camera crew coming to my house tomorrow to do some filming for a special project.  I’m still sporting the curly hair and it’s been a little unruly on camera, but I’m going with it!  (Actually, I think you’ll have to wait for the next video to see the curls.  I’m wearing pigtails in this one.)  Anyway, it’s been a bit of a change for me to wear lipstick in my workshop. So, in this video I share tips on mixing milk paint with a blender.  I think one of the toughest things for people to get used to when using milk paint for the first time is the texture. When

Hemp Oil Video Tutorial

I’m still working on all of my video tutorials for the Milk Paint website.  Actually, this will be an ongoing project as I share new techniques and creative ways to use Milk Paint and the companion products, but I’m getting ahead of myself.  Today I’m sharing about Hemp Oil, the top coat sold with my line as an alternative to wax.   So, what is Hemp Oil?  It’s an all natural oil that contains no VOCs and no petrochemicals.  It can be used on raw wood to seal and protect it, on old wood to revive it or on porous painted surfaces as a topcoat.  I used it on the interiors of the drawers on my Linen dresser…   It’s so easy to apply.  You just dampen a clean cloth with the hemp oil and rub it on.  That’s it.  You don’t have to worry about streaks or brushstrokes or

Furniture Feature Friday – Features & a Link Party

Good evening everyone.  I had a nice day sprucing up my space at Lucketts and doing a bit of shopping.  I came home with two great cane French chairs, a cool old camera and an antique green mixing bowl.  It wasn’t a huge haul, but it was a good time.  Without further delay, here are my favorites from last week… Kristin from The Linen House found this blue tufted sofa at an estate sale and it totally makes the room!  I love how one piece of furniture can make such a statement.  Great find! Jen from The House of Wood built an end table that was the perfect size, scale and shape for her sectional.  I love it when a girl pulls out some power tools and makes something happen herself.  I also love her curtains.  Blue and white.  Oh yeah. I love the school room makeover at Keeping it

say hello to “Linen”

It’s time to introduce another one of my Milk Paint colors.  Whew!  Painting twelve dressers in all twelve of my colors has taken longer than I thought it would.  I want all of my pieces to be special, but especially these pieces that will act as the “online swatch” for each color.  After this piece, I only have one more left to do – “Boxwood.”  So, without further delay, here’s “Linen”…   Linen is a beautiful cream that’s not too yellow, but not bright white. My husband found this piece at a yard sale and bought it for me.  Awww….I know.  I picked a good guy.  The hardware was ill-fitting and all wrong for this piece.  I disliked the flimsy metal covers for the keyholes as well, so I plucked those off.  Other than the cosmetic issues, this piece was in nice condition.     The insides of the drawers

the history of my dining room

If you’re very, very observant, you may have noticed that my dining room table top looks a little different.  That’s because I finally broke down and refinished it.  Again.  I was going to write a quick post about it, but then I realized the evolution of my dining room is pretty funny.  Not in a ha-ha sort of way, but in crazy lady who replaces her dining room set with ridiculous frequency sort of way.  We’ve lived in this house for six years and we’re on our fourth dining set.  I told you.  Ridiculous frequency.   I won’t even bother showing you the first one.  It was a great sturdy table that was given to us for free, so I definitely can’t complain about that.  I longed for a new dining room set for a year or so and finally held a yard sale and sold some things on E-Bay, so
