antique child’s wheelbarrow

I had such a fun time rearranging my furniture yesterday that I worked on it a little bit more today when I could manage between playing Lego Batman with the boys, laundry, trying to get my e-mail under control and acting as a wrestling referee (again with the boys.)  I was shopping my house for the perfect thing  for the top of the Empire dresser and I remembered an antique child’s wheelbarrow I bought and fell in love with a few weeks ago.  It’s one of those nutty ideas that I was sure would look good in someone else’s house, but not mine.  Well, if it didn’t work, I could always change it.    I like it there.   Something about it works.  It almost looks sculptural.        At this point I’m planning to make a hand painted antique-looking sign to hang over it.  I’m sort of excited about it.  I love

jewelry scale

When I was shopping to get ready for the Lucketts Antique Market in May, I came across this jewelry scale. Now, if you’ve read my blog for even a little while, you may have picked up on my love of a few things…fans, typewriters, ironstone and scales.  I had never seen a jewelry scale, so I bought it. I was in a major buy-to-sell mode, so I put a tag on it (with a pretty outrageous price) and brought it with me to Lucketts.  Before the fair began, another vendor was over checking out MY scale.  Oh don’t you DARE buy MY scale.  I know it has a tag on it and I put it out there for sale, but I didn’t mean for anyone to BUY it!  Ha…well, she walked away to think about it and things started to get a little crazy with customers.  About midday, the scale was

live pure sign

A few months ago, I was contacted by Tara of Between You & Me.  Tara and her husband design and make beautiful wood signs for the home.  After looking through their signs, I fell in love with this one…           It says it all.  Simple and true.  I immediately thought this would be great to hang in my boy’s room, which will be a project I’d like to work on in a few months…hopefully!  In addition to the “Live Pure” sign, they also make a family rules sign… …a city sign, quotes, Bible verses and custom signs.  You can take a look at all of the signs they have to offer HERE. In addition to showing their beautiful signs, I have to share how wonderful their customer service was.  They sent a sign to me before the Lucketts Antique Market and I broke it trying to remove

Big Purchases

I shared when I posted FFF this week that I made a couple of big purchases on Thursday, so I thought I would show them off.  Here’s one… See that big hardware counter with all of the metal bins?  Yeah, that.  Woohoo!  I bought it from my friend, Karen.  She’s told me so many times that she would never sell that piece, so when she mentioned to me that it was for sale, I jumped on it.  “Put a hold tag on it, so I can measure it when we go down there tomorrow!”  I became very paranoid that someone else was going to buy it.  I had to make sure it would work for where I needed it and it will.  Perfectly.  My husband is going to build a shelf to go on top of it to make it even more substantial.  It’s going to be painted black with a

Who are you…

…and what have you done with my husband? That was my thought when my husband called me at 7:30 am this morning.  (He is preaching this Sunday, so he went to the church super early to practice.) “Hello?”, I answered in a groggy voice letting him know I was sleeping soundly when the ring of the phone woke me up. “There are tons of great yard sales out here today.  I stopped at one and bought a set of router bits, two pipe clamps and eight locking casters for $32!!  You need to wake up and get the kids ready to go!” “Okay…just….give….me…a….minute.”  I hung up the phone.  Did I just dream that?  Was that perhaps some other husband meaning to call his wife and reached me instead?  Had I slipped through some wormhole while I was sleeping and was in a parallel reality where my husband has to wake ME

Shopping at Lucketts

I’m still recovering from Lucketts. (Well, I guess I need to give myself a break.  It just ended yesterday and I still need to de-Lucketts my house!  Events have a way of taking over.)  My parents are leaving tomorrow to go back to Florida to tie up loose ends and get ready to move up here, north of the Mason-Dixon line for the first time in their adult lives.  We went to see the house their having built today and it’s coming right along. So, I worked on cleaning out my e-mail inbox, which was way out of control.  I shuffled around and picked up some of the mess that was the result of dumping the contents of my van in the living room.  Mini made fun of my squeaky, raspy voice pretty regularly.  My mom and I finally had our bowl of cream of crab soup.  I was in a

Inventory

Here are some of the recent finds that are coming with me to the Lucketts Antique Market…     …horse show ribbons from 1957 & 1960…         …this petite paper cutter (it’s about 6″ square)…         ..this apparently came out of an old church…         …a hanging scale…     …and a bunch of film holders.  I’m excited about the idea I have for these.  (I hope it works!) In addition to pricing things for the antique market, I did some major cleaning in my house, bought a couple of dressers, and cleaned out some of the basement.  I’ve been wanting to tackle that basement for a while and I’m finally almost back to my full energy, so I got a good start on it.  There were piles of boxes and spilled Styrofoam peanuts everywhere, furniture that needed to go to the thrift

Shopping & Grain Sacks

I’ve been working on some rewrites for my book for the past week, but I’ve also turned my attention to getting ready for the Lucketts Antique Market.  That means lots of shopping.  I’m always afraid I won’t find enough.  Given that I sold almost everything on the first day last year, I am even more stressed about it this year.  I want to have a lot of great stuff and I want to keep the prices reasonable. This is what I managed to come home with today…   I’m really excited about some of the stuff I found.  I have a crazy idea for some antique 5 x 7 film frames I found. Some other things in the haul are four alarm clocks, two type writers, two fans, two wooden totes, some ironstone, a display from an old church, a wooden vent from a 100 year old barn, a cool brass lamp,
