how Society6 works

I've been asked how Society6 works by several readers, so I thought I would share for those who are interested in putting their own work out into the world (or for those who are just curious.) Step one is to create something you want to sell.  There are many categories of art available on Society6, so you can create anything from doodles and drawings, to paintings and photographs, digital art,  (read more …)

fall porch photo shoot

Thursday morning, I hit the snooze button a few times and then lazily scrolled through Instagram with one eye open until I felt like I could function enough to coax myself out of bed.  My throat had been sore for a couple of days and now I could feel that I didn't just have a dry throat from the A/C running or from a couple of short nights of sleep (from getting up to check blood sugars and make  (read more …)

behind the scenes | producing videos

I have been asked several questions about the videos I make, so I thought I would answer them all in one post, for those who are interested. Videos have been an on-again-off-again thing for me over the past few years.  I started them initially when I wanted to share how I made slipcovers.  I tried to write posts detailing how, but once I got into the thick of "pin the inside arm piece to the side  (read more …)

behind the scenes | online shop

Since the online shop has been a big focus in the studio for the past couple of weeks, I thought I would share a little bit of the "behind the scenes" for those who are curious about our process. Our process has been a bit all over the place, since we don't do this regularly, but we're getting into a groove and are becoming more efficient. In fact, Kriste and I spent the majority of the day  (read more …)

photo shoot at the retreat

Let me go back to the Lucketts Spring Market a couple of years ago.  Suzanne, the owner of The Old Lucketts Store and Design House, came and sat with me on a slow Sunday afternoon.  We were chatting about all of the business opportunities we're working on and the things we're dreaming about.  And she shared about a manor house she purchased and was renovating. She told me, "The woodwork in this  (read more …)

cottages & bungalows photo shoot

Last fall, I received an e-mail I wasn't expecting.  I had worked with Cottages & Bungalows for years as a contributor to their DIY essentials column, but when the editor asked me to work for them as a photographer and stylist, it was a total surprise. I felt like I could do it, but I was really, really intimidated. I have had photographers come to shoot my house before and they had so much  (read more …)

BHG Kitchen Photo Shoot

Two whole years ago, a stylist and photographer came to my home to photograph my kitchen for the Better Homes & Gardens special interest publication "Kitchen + Bath Makeovers."  I was beginning to think the shoot ended up on the cutting room floor, but then it appeared in the Spring 2015 issue! ...and now that it's out in the world, I can finally share the details of the photo shoot. It's  (read more …)
