When I was out shopping a couple of weeks ago, I came across this sweet little birdhouse…

I almost passed it up, because the colors were a little drab, but I decided to give it a chance.  I decided to paint it in MMS Milk Paint Grain Sack with Boxwood on the “grass”.  Kriste loves little projects like this, so I asked her to paint it while I was working on something else.

For some contrast on the roof, I picked Trophy and decided to add little stick windows on the dormers to match the stick details around the door and lower windows.  We just collected some from outside and hot-glued them on.

As a finishing touch, we beefed up the moss “bushes” with some reindeer moss hot-glued into place.

It’s now such a sweet storybook cottage birdhouse.

The little stick porch is my favorite part.

See?  A whole house makeover.  Landscaping and all.

Now, don’t let the post title freak you out.  I am not painting ironstone!  Never!

But, I spotted this in an antique store and immediately recognized the milk-pitcher shape.  But someone had stenciled it!  Ah!

I totally appreciate the irony of me freaking out at someone painting something, by the way.

At first, I passed it up, totally turned off by the stencil.  But it was still an ironstone milk pitcher, under those purple and red flowers.  I gently scratched at the paint with my fingernail to see if it would come off and it did.

I kept debating in my mind if I should buy it and then finally I said aloud to my mom, “It’s only $4.00, for goodness sake!  If it doesn’t clean up, I’ll just pitch it.”

All it took was a razor blade and a good cleaning…

…and that stencil is just a distant memory.  Well, hello, pretty white ironstone pitcher…

Both of these pieces are coming to the Lucketts Spring Market.

BTW Mr. clean Eraser is a great way to remove paint on glass and ironstone and stoneware products without scratching or damaging them. I used it to remove some fussy little flowers off a frosted glass mid century lamp and it worked like a dream.
Your stuff is looking great! I can’t wait to see it at Lucketts.

Oh, what a darling little birdhouse it turned out to be! It would make someone a great indoor decoration.

I thought for a minute you like the stencil and bought it for that reason. I’m glad you saved it!

The first thing I thought was that Marian needs to make a fairy garden with that darling little house!

The birdhouse never looked so good! An the pitcher, another winner. You and Kristie are having too much fun at work. Maybe I am just a tiny bit jealous???

Oh my goodness! I wish I lived closer so I could come buy that birdhouse! It would be so cute in my daughters room!! Can I request first dibs to buy it online if it doesn’t sell?! ? (Don’t think I’m lucky enough for that to happen…) Awesome job though! Love at first site for me 🙂

That little pitcher was a find! Lucky you saw it for what it really was. As for the bird house I’m afraid I might be falling off the Farmhouse White wagon! Not really, but the little house was more appealing to me before it was all painted in white. I especially liked the stone chimney before it was painted. Somehow, the “monochromatic” look just doesn’t fit the rustic style of the house to me. But it is interesting to see how you and Kriste envisioned and transformed it. Indeed, we are so unique, each of us amazing, never-to-be-duplicated human creatures, aren’t we?

BTW, I was just wondering where you found that little house. Was it an antique store or a regular store. If it was a thrift store, nevermind; if it was a chain like JoAnn’s or Michaels I might look for it to do my own remake!

Yeah, to each his/her own! 🙂

It was off a “yard sale table” at a thrift store.

The 2 projects gave a new (better) look and a new life to these old sad looking things .

Both are so adorably sweet. I love finds like this!

Your stenciled pitcher made me think of the white ironstone washbowl and pitcher I found about 20 years ago. When I bought it, it had large, colorful flowers and leaves hand-painted on it. I knew the decoration wasn’t original and could hardly wait to clean it off. I knew the pure white simplicity of it would be beautiful, and I was right – I still have it and still love it.
