Disclosure: As a part of the Seasons of Home series, this blog post was sponsored by HomeGoods/TJ Maxx.  All words and opinions are my own.

Of all of the rooms in our house, the living room is the most finished at this point.  There are still things on the to-do list and I am still getting acquainted with the space.  But, I really enjoyed finding a spot for our tree and, more than anything, decorating a fireplace mantle!  I haven’t had one of those for years!

I found the marble stocking hangers at my local HomeGoods/TJ Maxx.  I love how the gold base and hooks work with Eulalie’s frame and the marble is a nice, neutral touch.

I nestled a mix of fresh and faux greenery along with some pinecones around the hangers.  I love using some fresh greens, so their scent fills the room.

The little trees were also a HomeGoods purchase.  They had black and red ribbons and I replaced them with with some blue & gray checked ribbon that works better with my palette.  I also added some green moss (also from HomeGoods) around the base.

On the pine hutch, I added a live bay wreath hung from the same check ribbon.  I also tucked some pinecones and small white candles in ironstone bowls inside the cabinet.

(Sebastian doesn’t usually pose for me, but he happily sat while I took pictures.)

On the other side of the arched doorway, I put some fresh greens, a German Christmas pyramid, and some small wood houses.

I spotted the Pyramid at HomeGoods and put it in the cart without hesitation.  A very similar one was always a part of our Christmas decorations as I was growing up.  I had one from my Oma’s attic, but it was missing pieces, so I finally let it go a few years ago.  I love that I was now able to replace it and make it a part of our family Christmas traditions.

My boys were fascinated at the windmill blades turning from just the heat of the candles.

On the sofa, I added some sweater pillows with pom-poms at their corners.  I picked them up from TJ Maxx last Christmas.

The side table holds the paperwhites, a dala horse, and a bowl of hard candies from Germany.  I also tied some homemade “snowball” pom-poms around the lamp.

The candies were an impulse at-the-register buy at HomeGoods as well.  I remembered eating these out of tins when I was a kid in Germany and couldn’t resist putting them out for the holiday season.

I also found some of the cutest plaid wrapping paper and some pretty ribbons on that same shopping trip.  I always like browsing for little bits and bobs like that when I’m there.

And, because money stretches so far at a place like TJ Maxx/HomeGoods, I even picked up a down/feather-filled Ralph Lauren winter coat for around $100.  I left my winter coat on the airplane on the way back from China last spring and wasn’t able to recover it.  Now that I’m in Minnesota, that definitely needed to be replaced!

I’ll share all about my tree, which isn’t quite finished, next week!

Marian, I always love your decor, but you outdo yourself at Christmastime! I love the way you’re making this house into YOUR home. . . and you’ve added just the right touches to make things beautifully Christmasy while still being your style. I hope y’all have a wonderful first Christmas in Minnesota!

    5. Kim

I like seeing your various household pieces as they show up in this house vs. your old house. It’s like seeing an old familiar friend, and they’re not even mine!

    6. Mary

I love all your touches of Christmas, and what a great find on the German candy. The mantel is simple enough that I think I can copy some of it. I can’t wait to see more details about your tree!

    7. Candice

I love everything about this post. It’s so inspirational! Can I ask where you the Dala horse came from? I love it! I have a few myself, but this one is so unique! Thank you for sharing.

    15. Debbie

Beautiful! What a successful shopping trip.

Marian, I have been collecting German Christmas items since I first discovered them in Toronto at a German Gift Shop when I was all of sixteen years old! That was a long, long, time ago!
I bought little, bright yellow moon ornaments with angels perched on them. One for my mother and one for myself.
I would go back there each year to buy other things and two of them were Pyramids. They were the small ones, natural in colour, like yours, with a trio of young fawns on them. One for my mom, one for my mother-in-law.
I still collect things from Germant, to this day, and love the charm of the old, vintage, hand made wooden angels.
I love seeing that you begin new traditions, like your pyramid, along with the old ones. It helps to make new memories with those you love.

    17. Sylvia

Yes! Sebastian must have a stocking. Really, he must. Use the pyramid as an opportunity for a science lesson. Yeah, science teacher here.

    18. Norma Rolader

Everything looked so pretty…. as far as I could see. BUT, I really miss seeing pictures of an entire space! Bloggers used to do this…a few still do , like Dear Lillie Blog.. thank goodness. I first started noticing this sound-byte type picture thing on Courtney’s French Country Cottage Blog, a great site, but the limitations on most of the views is like tunnel vision. I adore your decorating and everything else you do… So gifted. Thanks for sharing during this crazy busy time of your life.

Stunning holiday home. You have inspired me to use a french country chest in a sitting area. I love that you could use it to provide a little vignette or focal point in the room. Great idea if you don’t have room for a full buffet or sideboard in a dining room as well. Thank you for posting!

    32. Royal Carving

Amazing and very beautiful ideas you shared.
