One thing that excited me about our new home was the porch! I only had a small stoop at our last house, but this house has a nice front porch with lots of potential for decorating for the seasons.
We still have some power washing and window cleaning to do, but the porch is coming along and looking cozy for fall.
Decorating for fall is easy, because you can put out some pumpkins and mums and hang a festive wreath on the door and call it a day.
I selected the boxwood and twig wreath, which is neutral and transitional. I also saw potential to add things (and take them away) to make it suit specific seasons. For fall, I added a few fall picks and faux mini-apples to give it more color. I’ll just remove the picks when the season transitions to winter.
I also made some updates to the porch that went beyond season decor.
The old porch light was a little small and the frosted glass, especially when dirty, didn’t allow for much light to shine through. I liked the lantern-style, though. I upgraded it to the Colchester Lantern, which is a style similar to what was there, but was larger and looked more refined.
I already had the Ingrid bench, also from Joss & Main, and I painted it in a soft green to match the front door.
And, to cozy it up and tie into the black planters and lantern, I added some black stripe pillows and a monogram pillow.
All in all, it was a few small changes that spruced up the porch for fall and beyond.

Beautiful Marian!! Happy fall!!!
It looks A+, Marian!! I’d love to have that front porch myself!!! As for the contest, Joss & Main have Wayfair here in Canada………. Is that contest open to us too?
Hi Marion,
I was perusing EBTH and saw this footbath and thought of you immediately. Only a few more hours on the auction.
best,
Ann
Wow, I thought your bench was an antique…..good to know that we could actually buy it for ourselves!
I have been reading your blog for a long time About a week ago, I stopped receiving them. I have been googling your blog to read it. I thought this would correct itself. Should I sign up again.
Sorry I don’t Instagram, but love the front porch! Haven’t gotten to mine too much yet!
Love the way you have decorated and thank you for sharing with us God bless
Can you tell me what color paint you used on the door and bench? It all looks so fresh and welcoming. Beautiful!
Marian provided all the door paint details about a month ago in a prior post when her parents were in town helping.
I like the wreath from Joss and Main, but you made it look amazing with your creative touches!
Your porch is lovely. We miss the feeling of Fall in Florida, but we decorate anyway! Lots of pretending, or in our case reminiscing of all the more northern states where we have lived.
I love Joss and Main too. Also Wayfair and some of the others I have been introduced to in blogs. My husband is not crazy about all the many pieces that come in some of them. After the last piece I had to keep bragging to him, but honey you built that chest from scratch and look at all the money we saved!?
I’m new to your blog and I’m enjoying it very much.
I like the paint on the bench. I’m glad that is the bench you painted b/c I have a similar one that is teak and I was afraid one like THAT was what you painted. Whew!
It’s so lovely! Love how the colors you brought in work with your front door color so beautifully. Thanks so much for sharing!
I love the color of your front door. You said it was a soft green but do u have the code or name of the color ?
I like this design style. things are in harmony with each other. mainstream lightness. It creates a sense of calm and reduces pressure
