I’m so excited to share, that for the final post in the Seasons of Home series, we’re all sharing projects completed with MMS Milk Paint! Not only is it inspiring for me to see my product used by such talented ladies, but it’s such an encouragement that they were willing to work with my brand as a sponsor.
So, I decided to do a fun, little project with it, and made some milk-painted gift boxes…
I started with papier mache boxes I purchased at Hobby Lobby.
And I mixed up some Shutter Gray and Tricycle, since those colors work well with the ribbons and papers I purchased and had leftover from last year.
I just brushed a coat of milk paint directly onto the papier mache boxes. That surface is perfect for milk paint, because it soaks right in.
I waited for the boxes to dry, which only took about 15 minutes, and then I embellished them with ribbons, etc. It was a quick and easy project and I love how they turned out!
And I like that these boxes can be reused year after year and I can store smaller Christmas decorations, ribbons, ornaments, etc. inside when it’s time to pack it all away.
And they are just cute.
Who wouldn’t love receiving a gift in a hand painted box, wrapped with twine, topped with an oversized pom-pom?

Love that pom pom topper! I enjoyed using your paint! You are pretty amazing. Also listened to your pod cast on Boss Babe and really enjoyed it. You are just darling.
How creative you are, not to mention eco-sensitive … I would never have thought to paint a paper mache box. The finished product is lovely and, as you point out, reusable in a number of ways.
Just don’t store any glass ornaments inside. Unless these boxes are acid free, which I suspect they are not.
What is the reaction with glass?
I love this idea! The taller, square shapes of the boxes would look really great next to the typical rectangles that most gifts come in. I’ve got several containers of MMS Milk Paint leftover from various projects and I think I’ll try this.
And that reindeer is too cute! Is it felted? Where can I find it?
Love this idea. Love the finish of your milk paint always. Merry Christmas!
Cool idea and something to use and enjoy all year – Merry Christmas
It is the perfect idea for all year around! Those boxes are so inexpensive, and painted, make them a great part of the gift! I am planning to put year round gifts in boxes painted with MMS Milk Paint.
Thank you for such a fun idea!!
Oh my thank you for sharing so adorable
Hi Miss Mustard Seed/Marianne- I read your blog almost everyday. I have a question- I’m wanting to paint my banister black, but it’s that yellowed/glossy/stained finish. Is there a simple path? If I need to do the sanding, it may never be done. But it’s a huge part of our entry foyer. Its screaming for redemption…. Do you have a product? can you help? 🙂

Hi Marian,
I so enjoy your blog and Instagram and Instastories.
I missed your story on how to make the Pom Pom!
Could you please share? I’m on a quest to simplify…
Peace and Joy,

Hi Marian,
I have a very old bookcase that was in my parents garage for many years that I would like to paint. So I decided I needed to test for lead and of course the back, which has never been painted is lead paint. The front and shelves which have been painted (who knows when) are not testing positing for lead. Would it be possible to used milk paint or do you have other suggestions.
Thanks for your help.
Karen
