Today was the due date for all of my bedroom project tutorials for HGTV.com, so I spent the morning taking the “beauty shots” for those articles.  They will be available on HGTV.com in a few weeks and I will link to them when they are live.

Here’s how the room looks now…

Miss Mustard Seed-3812
Miss Mustard Seed-3808

Miss Mustard Seed-25

Here are some makeovers featured in the room…

My $25 yard sale side table before…

 …and after….

The antique store chandelier (I think it was $55)…

…assembled and rewired with spray painted candle sleeves…

$35 yard sale night stand/chest before…

…and now…

$65 antique store French chair before…

…and after…

And the entire room as it looked in January…

…and now…

I am still planning to tweak a bit more.  I would like to paint the lamp bases cream and recover the shades.  The bases blend in with the wall fabric a bit too much and I was a little sloppy when covering the shades the first time.  I’m sure I’ll mix things up for the seasons as well, but this room is basically done! Well, this half of the room.

You can find other posts about the bedroom here…

Resources…

Now I need to get to work on the other side of the room!

…and you can see I have my work cut out for me!

    16. Jennifer@The Chronicles of Home

I totally adore how this room came out. That fabric wall is so gorgeous and I love the way you redid the chair by the window in the dual fabrics. Beautiful work!

    17. lisa

Just beautiful! I have never been a “blue” person, but you might be influencing me 🙂
      xo,
      Lisa

    18. Sharon

Beautiful job! I am in the process of doing my bedroom and I would love to do everything you have done, however, I don’t have the time or talent! I also love that you showed the other side! Can’t wait to see what you’ll do there.

    19. Susan

BEAUTIFUL! I love the chair and the shutters on the wall the best! Where can I get a boxwood wreath like that? it is gorgeous!
      Susan

    20. Tara

LOVE it – just an idea, how about a shot of hot pink? just to put a little pop into it? whether it occurs in a small vase on the night stand or in the lamps you were referring to doing? the colors look beautiful together but I think in my opinion one pop of a bright color will really bring it to life…love your posts, great ideas! off to look at my girls bedroom with a new eye 🙂

    21. Krystin

Oh wow! This is miles away from where you started! Looks fantastic!

    22. MARY EGUIA

So pretty.I think a crystal lamp or even brass to match the chandelier would be pretty .Home Goods has some beautiful crystal lamps. It would add sparkle. You are an inspiration Marion. Have a wonderful day.
      Mary

    23. Meg Saunders

Amazing! Your are a true inspiration! Every time I read one of your posts I am ready to go out and tackle the world! Thank You <3

    24. Kelly

You have a real knack at putting everything together. I have a suggestion though. Your ceiling medallion needs to be bigger. It looks wonderful now but, if you did it larger, you would be amazed at the huge difference.

    25. elaine

I love that room a lot! the blues and off whites are so pretty and calming. your work is unparalleled!

    26. Anne Boykin

Dear MMS, Another fabulous transformation! You have such great style. All those white sheets on your bed, the nightstands, the fabric, the ironstone on the walls – well, it’s all fabulous. Thanks so much for your lovely blog. Hugs, Anne Boykin

    27. Jeannie & Linda

What a great job. Love the color you chose for the nightstands. They look fab with the new bed.
      Jeannie

      WOWza~~~

Love the room. I can’t believe you want to paint the lamp bases… I love them!

    29. Julie W.

Your room is fabulous – elegant and cozy and totally liveable.

    30. kristin

      Marian,
The lamp bases are beautiful–I can’t tell you to NOT change them because you are the artist but they are beautiful as is! The room is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

    31. Teresa

It is STUNNING Marion! I can’t wait for the tutorials for everything. I love the butcher block counters and tile back splash in the kitchen as well. You are truly a talented woman!

    32. mickey

Love every single thing you did, but that wallpaper makes the room. Your husband’s side table is stunning 🙂
      mickey

    33. Linda Evans

………your one amazing talented lady !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    34. Jake's a Girl

    36. Brooke Spater

Absolutely beautiful. You are so talented. I’ve loved following your journey!

    37. Lori

I agree with the above poster. I would do silver for the bases.

    38. Miss Ellie

It’s beautiful. All ways nice to see a room come together. Thank you for sharing.
      Cheers,
      Miss Ellie

    39. Megan

It is absolutely stunning and it is soooo YOU!

    40. Shelly

As a decorator for years, my advice on the lamps are to leave them as they are. If you must make a change, I would just do the shades, not the bases.
Everything is lovely. Love everything you have done! 🙂

    41. Jelena

      Wow! What a transformation!
Now, what I want to know is what you did with that beautiful floral rug that was in the room in January. Are you getting rid of it? Can I have it? 🙂

    42. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch)

Wow! Beautiful transformation, Marian! Truly wonderful! I know you’ll have the other side done in no time with all this gorgeousness on the other side of the room. 🙂

    43. karen piehl

you are inspiring! i have enjoyed seeing the progression of this room, from the false starts, to its lovely finish. it is as if we all have watched your own style emerge. you are the master of hand painting — i love your painterly touches. i would love to see more info on how you choose and design them, as well as execution.

    44. Kathleen

I adore your style, But you made a huge mistake when you exchanged that gorgeous rug for this insipid vanilla one. just sayin’.

    45. kelly@mysoulfulhome

Masterful re-do! Love it all…agree on the lamp bases, but maybe the shades only need a bit of the blue of the wall paper grosgrain ribbon around top & bottom. Heck, it all looks so great leave it as so!
      Kelly mysoulfulhome.com

    46. Phyllis

Only you could have worked this kind of magic, Marian. I love that everything you do is, well, so, uniquely, YOU….You dive headlong into all manner of diverse and myriad projects, and emerge with something breath-taking each time. You seem to breathe the ‘Marian signature’ into all and give it new life. I wish you continued and even more success in your future projects and endeavours.
One last thing. That door on the unfinished side of your room – is that a Gunmetal gray colour? May I know the paint company and colour, please?. .
      .

    47. Jo Hobbs

It looks wonderful, Marian!!! Romantic, cozy, relaxing, and so professional! Great job!

    48. Lin

Marian what a wonderful gift you have! This room is a masterpiece! I have enjoyed following along every step of the way!

    49. Harriett

As usual, Marion, beautiful! My favorite is the chair. I loved those sides from the first reveal. Drapes, fabric wall, shutter ~ inspired! Here’s to INSPIRED YOU!

    51. Sharon

Just beautiful. You must be so pleased! I love the colours you blend so well. Loving the shot of boxwood green wreath. The green really pops out dramatically.

Very Pretty Room!! You inspire me!! I am enjoying your blogs. Love the “before’ and ‘after’
shots!! My favorite is the chair with different fabric on the back- neat!! I liked it in the before picture also , it looks so cozy!! I am going to look for a similar one. Thanks!!

    56. Nancy

You must feel great! It all look so beautiful. Congrats!

    57. diane

looks great…just one suggestion would be to place the end legs of the bed onto the edges of the rug if space will allow. look forward to seeing it on HGTV

    58. Danielle

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! It all is so beautiful. I love the painted pieces, your chandelier. Oh, also your wall and chair. I can’t wait to read more about it all on HGTV!

    60. Marian

It is perfect in every way! So restful with the beautiful blues but fun with the different prints. It has been so much fun being a part of your process and progress, and I always feel privileged that you share your talent and knowledge with us, thank you!

    61. Sally

Beautiful!!! I wish I could just move right in to that room! I like your idea for painting the lamps a cream color. I am so excited waiting for the new tutorials. You have been unbelievably busy!

    62. Suzi

Sometimes really pretty girls don’t think they are pretty because no one ever tells them. They figure the pretty girl KNOWS she’s pretty because she has a mirror. Not true. You may have doubts about your skills/talents/gifts sometimes. Remember this, your rooms are pretty…they are beautiful…your bedroom? AMAZING transformation and given the lighting speed in which you accomplished it – along with a kitchen redo & countless other projects & travel & workshops& raising 3 boys (I count husbands :-)…whew…I am tired just thinking about it. Enjoy your success. Yah You!

      • Peggy huff

    65. Jenny Lynn

Totally amazing transformation! I bet you are ready for at least a small break before starting on the other side of the room. Or at least a day to breathe in some fresh air, sip some fresh ice tea and put your feet up.

    66. Jackie Bauernfeind

Marian … just a quick question regarding the Grain Sacks … How long does (on average) it take to receive from Austria?

Love your work … read you every day!

      Thanks, Jackie

    67. Kristie

Absolutely amazing! I love all the work you have put into your home. I recently purchased your book “Inspired You” and follow your blog daily and you never cease to amaze me : )
One question – How did you decide on the pattern for your side table – did you do the work by hand? What was your inspiration? I may have missed a blog entry where you covered this and would love to know more!

      Thanks,
      Kristie

    68. Laurie

Soooo beautiful! Thank you for inspiring me!

    69. Kim

Marian your bedroom is so gorgeous. I have looked at your blog almost everyday and have been amazed at how you’ve done all of this so quickly. You are an inspiration! I love the plank ceiling and all of your furnishings-such lovely taste. I’m looking forward to seeing the tutorials.

    76. Amber

Wow! beautiful & Elegant! I love your ceilings! and its amazing what a head and footboard will do to make the room pop! Great job!

    77. Holly

Hi Marian, recently subscribed to your emails. I am offering to fold your laundry (last picture) in return for you decorating my home! (smile) Seriously… absolutely beautiful transformation. Thanks for the inspiration. ~ Holly

    78. Nanci

That new bed makes all the difference! Before the lamps looked huge and it was all out of scale. I do not understand why people do not realize the importance of a headboard. I love the transformation.. The bedroom is very peaceful and enveloping now.

    79. Laura

I love your ideas and creativity. How do you come up with everything and actually do it??? I’m wondering, too, what you did with the oriental rug that was in your bedroom before. Did you move it to another area of your house or did you sell it?

    80. Sheila

Love your room. You are one busy momma! I actually like how the lamps blend in. I do wonder and sort of worry about one thing: do you ever get to see any other adults? I am a mom with 4 kids, stay at home, and find that my responsibilities often make it hard to get out and socialize. You have an overlay of a business that requires you to stay home, by yourself. I know that you have us out here in the virtual world, but, dang girl, do you ever get out?!

    81. Donna

Love it!!! Even the bedside lamps as they are. I would not change a thing (on that side of the room). I would worrry about too much cream and I love the blues. Eager to see what you do with the other side.

    82. Baby Boo Rooms

You inspire me! I just started my business and I subscribed to your site because you are inspiring me to follow my passion. Thank you!

    83. Mary Light

What a beautiful vision. I would never leave that room.

    84. Sandra

Each time I scrolled down all I kept saying was “Wow!” what a beautiful transformation! You are very talented!

    85. Natalie Korreckt

Shut the front door. I’m green with envy!! Can I bottle you and bring you to my house? I’m your biggest fan!!

    86. Arli

Stunning. Talk about turning an average duckling into the most exquisite swan in the lake! So glad you changed out the rug. Can’t wait to see how the other half of the room is transformed and what you do with the big dresser and armoire.

    87. Lauren @momhomeguide

I love the wallpapered feature wall — it seems wallpaper has been making a comeback! Would love to try a wallpaper feature wall.

    88. Sylvia Marie

I really liked the boxwood wreath against the shutters, as well as the nightstand on the right, I’m going to do that to one of mine!!!!!

    89. margo

Bravo, wonderful work. Excellent travail (Margo from Paris/France)

    90. Amanda

      Hello,

I love this blog so much. I’m active duty Airforce currently in Afghanistan. I can’t wait to get back home to take on some project of my own. Thank you for putting a smile on my face!

      Hugs,

    91. Kirsten Farmer

Everything is so feminine and beautiful, and then there’s the famous drill on your dresser. Just love it!

    92. Kristin

Hi! Absolutely in love with your bedroom! I can’t seem to find the tutorial on the fabric wall treatment….even searched for it on HGTV. Could you please direct me to it? Thanks so much!!!

    93. MONICA

I have searched your site and can’t find anywhere that describes how you achieved the look of the shutters on your bedroom wall. I have recently bought a set while thrifting, but they are hideous. Can you give me direction on paint colors and technique to get the same look you have on your shutters? Thanks

    94. Amy Miller

Marian, which finish did you get on your bed? I’ve been considering this same bed for years, and I might bite the bullet and get it this weekend since it is on sale. It is hard to tell the true look and feel of the finishes on their website. How has it been holding up?

      Amy

    95. Danielle Owens-Kim

Are your trim and wall color the same? I read that the wall is BM Simply White and was wondering what the trim was. The room is amazing and your blue color scheme is the inspiration for our farmhouse we recently moved in to. Thanks!

    96. kate

Where did you get all of your boxwoods? I am always on the hunt for boxwood wreathes and topiaries for a good price!

    97. Neeta

Great blog, and what a wonderful makeover! A few years ago, I attempted something similar. The centerpiece of the makeover was a gorgeous colorful bedding set from India, that altered the decor of the room completely. That experience led to creating a nice collection that can be viewed below.

      http://www.novahaat.com/sari-bedspreads/

    98. jared

How is your wall treatment holding up? Maybe you could do a follow up post on that….

    99. Kim Clemmer

Marian – please PLEASE PLEASE, I beg of you… Do not paint those lamps bases!!! I have been scouring your blog for two weeks now in hopes of finding a source for those exact lamps – I am *in love*!! So… please, don’t paint them ;). Also, can you tell me the source (if you recall), and if you ever decide to sell them and replace them with cream ones I will make the 2+ hour drive to your studio to nab these!! xo – kim
