With the heaviness that’s hanging over our country right now, I thought offering up another #happymailmovement giveaway to my readers would be a nice way to kick off the week. It doesn’t make anything right or better, but it’s an itty-bitty way to spread a little happiness.
I’ve been spending a lot of time while under the stay-at-home/safe-at-home orders working on projects around the house and in the garden. In the evenings, though, when I’m tired from the day, I’ve been crocheting dishcloths. I’ve even come up with a couple of new and simple patterns to share! But the point of adding to the growing stack was to give them away.
So, I’ve accumulated ten crocheted dishcloths in a variety of patterns to offer up.
They are all made of 100% cotton Sugar n’ Cream yarn in Ecru. I have found that these wash up nicely and are great to use for wiping down counters and doing light cleaning work. I keep one folded up over the divider in my sink and change it out every day or two. I love their texture and the fact that I can wash and reuse them over and over. They also don’t get stinky like sponges.
I’ve played around with making them with tighter, denser stitches, with popcorn bobbles, and with more of an “open weave” to allow more air through. I even made a little “scrubby sponge” with a loop for hanging…
I like to try something a little different each time.

I’m thankful for my hope in Jesus. And the word of God which is continually growing and sustaining me during these difficult times.
My husband had surgery a week ago today. This morning, we went for his post-surgery appointment and the doctor said he is doing wonderful! We live in the country in Oklahoma and had to drive to Dallas three times for his surgery and related doctor visits. I am thankful I survived Dallas traffic!
I’m thankful for living such a blessed life with my husband. We celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary tomorrow.

First-time commenter here. Although our styles are very different, I stumbled onto your blog years ago and enjoy following for your thoughtful reflections on life. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to learn to do something new — not related to my work. When your dishcloth tutorial arrived, it seemed like fate. My mother, who died last summer after a short battle with cancer, made all my dishcloths — and I never learned how. I still have not learned how — and would so love a few of yours to tide me over and give me inspiration.

I am thankful a very good, young (in her 50’s), healthy,(we’ve walked together 5 days a week for almost 10 years) friend survived a brain aneurysm, stroke, heart attack, pneumonia, and 10 days on a vent. Only her short term memory is affected. I am so grateful she is healing! I have a LOT to be thankful for, but this is a biggie!!

I am thankful to the Lord that I have witnessed this pandemic and upheaval of our country with my dear husband of 51 years. It is so true that two become one.
I am thankful for memories that we are making with our families home right now-those that will last a lot longer than this epidemic. I am also thankful for homemade mac and cheese made by my husband from his grandmother’s recipe.

Thankful for my family. I have 3 grown sons and my oldest is a policeman. He’s 30 and he, his wife and their son are living with me and my husband at the moment because they are moving into their newly bought home in a couple weeks. He works the mid shift as a sargent and my heart worries for him everytime he walks out the door to do his job in the tragic world. He’s a great, compassionate man, not only for his family but for those he encounters in his job. My heart hurts for the travesties that go on in this country. I pray for his safe return everyday. I pray for all of the police that have to work in these trying times. I pray for our country. Daily.

We often forget and take for granted the wonderful lives we have in the United States, with all its’ problems. I love these dishcloths! I have really been thankful for my home, my husband, daughter and my pets. Including my bird feeding pole set up outside my bedroom window. I just love sitting here and seeing who may fly by for a snack. The hummingbirds are migrating late this year so I put some more nectar out for them. I have seen 2 today.

We lost our 22yr old grandson to Cancer. I thank the Lord every day that we had a close relationship from the day he was born. Grief is complicated. It’s said that it never leaves you in the place it finds you. The last thing I said to him was it was such an honor to be his Grandmother, and he replied, “well it sure wasn’t hard to be your Grandson”. God bless all of you readers who have the love if a child.

Like Joanne above, pretty much just thankful for life in general. An abundance of blessings to count when so many are struggling. Have been watching your painting tutorials while making masks for our local hospital and town residents. I’m thankful for the friend who lent me a sewing machine so I could that. I’m at 150+ and still going. I’m thankful that someday I’ll be able to view your painting tutorials again and try something new. I’m also thankful that our kitchen remodel is back underway after a 10 week hitatus. Soon, I’ll be able to put away the hotplate and cook in a real kitchen again. A new dishcloth would be a special addition!

I’m thankful that you share so much of your talent with your readers. I retaught myself to crochet after 50 years using your ruffled edge pattern and my first try was a disaster. Too tight in places and too loose in others with a gap here and there. I kept that one for myself but the next was much better. I was going to give it to my daughter who brought my great granddaughter who just turned three over to visit. When I brought it out for my daughter the little one said, “what’s that/” I said it is a wash cloth that I made. She rubbed it against her cheek and said, “oh so soft” Of course she took it home with her and I am making another one for my daughter. And then another for my granddaughter and then one for a friend and on it goes. I write this to let you know that your gifts to us who read your blog reach way beyond us to bless many others. I’m thankful that before my 91 year old mother lost her eyesight she crocheted baby blankets to be put away for any future great grandchildren. We’ll welcome a boy in October and a girl in November into the family and they will have a family heirloom to keep them warm.

First off, I am so happy you posted the patterns again…I got the yarn before the shelter in place but could not remember the stitches you used. Right now I am very thankful that in spite of falling twice this month the only thing broken is my elbow. While it does hurt it could have been a hip or a pelvis. At my age only having small breaks is a blessing…on June 7 I will be 84…don’t know how on earth that happened! I really enjoy looking at all the pretty things on your blog…especially the beautiful yarn on your shelf.

I am a seamstress so I now have plans to try your slipcover techniques, I have ordered some oils paints, and I have dug my sugar and cream yarns out of the bin I put them in a few years ago. I am thankful that even though my son’s May 17th wedding in Brooklyn was cancelled due to COVID-19, that he and his fiance are well and healthy. They will be getting married in a civil ceremony next week on the West coast, where we live and they will start their life together. I have two sons, like you, :), and they have chosen their life partners very well. It is such a blessing to have 2 beautiful daughters-in-law that love their husbands.

I am thankful to be at home on a furlough -the $$ is not as much, but my safety and my husband’s safety (both seniors) is better. I am so thankful for the sovereignty of our God. I am thankful that despite covod-19’s attack on the world, my fiance is now my husband and we are coming out of what has been an extremely dark season married, homeowners! Our wedding was to be a big celebration May 1 but it was just us two with a pastor. Our friends played a worship set over zoom from the opposite coast before we said our vows. Married by a pastor we didn’t know in a state we didn’t know because it was the only state offering marriage licenses. We wanted to honor God and still get married. We did on March 25 and now we are closing on a house we never thought possible! Homeownership wasn’t possible, but God. I’ve always admired your dishcloths as well as all your work. I have some old pieces of furniture I’ve saved your tutorials on so that I can make our home “our home”. God is good all of the time and I am so thankful!

I am thankful for each and every day that I wake up 😉 I am thankful that my family is physically, emotionally and even financially in good shape (my only surviving son has taken a huge hit in pay but continues to work and get that reduced paycheck, at least for now). I am thankful that my 3 grandkids are thriving at home. I’m thankful that my daughter-in-law who is a stay-at-home mom was a teacher in her earlier life; I am thankful that she is a wonderful mom to those kids and a loving wife to my son and a true believer and “truster” in God. I am thankful that my partner has, so far, survived over 8 years of prostate cancer which is now metastatic but doesn’t stop him from living and loving each day on this earth. I honestly wake up each morning, fix a cup of coffee and talk to God thanking Him for the life I live and love.

It is hard to focus on things that I am thankful for right now. So much going on. My mother has had 4 surgeries and 5 hospital visits in 1 1/2 months. She is now in hospice. And she has Alzheimer’s during all of this. It has been rough. I am thankful for God and my husband and son. I am thankful that i still have my mom for now. She is my last parent.
I’m thankful for the health and happiness of my children, my husband and myself. This helps me during this dark and tough time in history.

At the last chain do3 scTurn and sc on the other side of the chain, in the last chain do 2sc Continue to sc around until the edges meet in the middle. With a yarn needle stitch the diagonal opening closed.

I’m thankful that I’ve been able to shop and cook for my 3 aunts and uncles who are all over 80! I couldn’t work from march through mid May due to the coronavirus so I’ve spent more time talking with them (at a safe distance) and running errands for them. They have so much wisdom and I love hearing stories about when they were growing up.

I stumbled across your Instagram one day during quarantine, and you’ve been a bright spot each day! I was so excited to learn to crochet when I saw your tutorial for the dishcloths, but then my sister-in-law died suddenly at the end of April, and we’ve spent our days helping my in-laws pack up her apartment and sort through all her legal and financial issues. Hopefully one day I’ll make some dishcloths that I can share!

I am thankful that my husband has recovered from a stroke he had in January. He did great doing his in patient and out patient physical therapy and occupational therapy. He had to postpone surgery and radiation treatments for skin cancer several times but he was finally able to have his surgery and he is now having his radiation treatments twice a week for 7 weeks and is doing fine. After several delays he will see a cardiologist this month to find out if he needs a heart monitor. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

I was laid off from my job due to the coronavirus – have spent every day since March 19 enjoying my home, my cats and dogs and my garden – my husband is disabled and my dad who lives with us in 90 so I have had to be very careful. My grandchildren ages 4 and 7 live next door on our land so I haven’t missed a moment with them. I know how lucky I am when I hear about new grandparents unable to see their grand babies. My daughter and her husband live in Florida and I am looking forward to the day when we can be together again. We have our health and life is good.

I’m thankful that I’m healthy, that the pandemic did not impact our employment and for our police force protecting us during the riots.
Marian, I am thankful that my preemie granddaughter was discharged from the NICU to her first time parents in stable health the night before the turmoil began in their Chicago neighborhood. Together, the new family will find strength and security in one another.
I’m thankful for my beautiful family. I have 4 grandchildren that light up mine and my husband’s life! I’m thankful for being able to comment on your post ❤️

I am thankful for my family and the life we have. Life has not always been easy, My husband and I and our daughter were in a a car wreck 25 years ago that changed our lives. My husband could never work again and thankfully I had a good job in health care. God has been with us every step of the way. We now have two grown children and 2 grandchildren that are the joy in our life, I pray for peace in our troubled times.
I am thankful for my family and our health and the home we have that allows us a safe and comfortable place to quarantine and a place for me to teach from home during the pandemic.

I am thankful for each new day I get to be here on earth! I have learned to appreciate my new home, and have been most productive with enriching projects. This time at home has allowed me to be more productive in terms of balancing my few minutes of time between virtual meetings to get things accomplished, like prepping and making the dinner meal in time segments throughout the day and challenging myself to brief time commitments as though I were on a fast paced cooking show with only 7-8 min to get cutting veggies accomplished for a soup base. I went to my container garden and brought in fresh basil to make freezer tray pesto in 8 min! I laughed the whole time! I am thankful for all that I can accomplish while at home. I know God has my back, and I can be successful in finding my happiness. Finding your version of happiness and staying in the moment is what I am thankful for every day. Take care of you!
I’m thankful for my family and the good I see in so many during these difficult times.
I am thankful that the virus is on a downturn worldwide. I am thankful that no one I knew or loved was stricken with it.
I am thankful for all essential works and bang my pots at 7pm along with 100’s of others on my street in New York City. I am thankful for my friends and families who Loved me and kept my spirits up when I was having bouts of deep depression these last few months.
I know I am loved
I am thankful that although in this world nothing will ever be totally fair for everyone, that with God all is always fair and He judges all things fairly for all.
My faith, my family, my hope. Just kinda holding onto those things right now with a grateful heart!

I’m thankful for the health of my family and friends and I’m thankful that Distance Learning is almost over. It’s been a tough learning curve instructing Kindergarten and First Grade students over a computer but I’m happy that we got through it together. I still miss them so much and am hopeful to see them in the Fall in person.

I’m thankful for being furloughed at this time. My husband is working from home, & we are together 24/7. It’s been a great time to reconnect & renew our marriage.
Without sounding cliche` I am thankful for you. I’ve been busier than normal, and not as able to interact with people, not just in person but even on line. But I know there’s going to be something that feels a little like fellowship in my inbox every few days at least.
I am also thankful for so many other things. This SIP has not been difficult for me at all as life was already quite challenging. Sip has almost allowed me to slow down a little. And for that, I am actually grateful!
I am thankful for so many blessings that God has provided for me and my family. There are too many to list but I would like to include you. In the evenings, after a long day, I enjoy reading several little blogs to lighten the day. Your posts are at the top of my list. My sweet sister tried her best to teach me, the left handed one in the family, to crochet many years ago. Unfortunately, it just did not click for me but the time we spent together was priceless. I cherish those memories. Thank you for a bright spot in my days.
I am so thankful for my gardens, the birds chirping, the cool night breezes, my health that is improving, my sweet husband, my wonderful kids and grandkids, books to read, podcasts to listen to, my faith, time to savor life in retirement…the world is tough for so many right now, so I count my blessings and try to figure out what to do to help others. Sometimes its just the little things, like a handmade dishcloth made by a kind and generous person…
I’m thankful for YOU. I have enjoyed your blog for a very long time and of all that I follow, yours is the one I look forward to the most. I’ve also enjoye getting to connect with you a bit “behind the scenes”. You are one creative person and full of so many talents. Thanks for sharing them with the rest of us.
I am thankful that God is in control. I am also thankful for quiet, peaceful time at home w/a loving husband in these uncertain times. I retired (after working for 46 years as RN) the month before the pandemic began.
I am so thankful for my children and grandchildren! I live with one of my daughters, her husband and three little boys. Many messes to clean!
