First of all, I am excited to announce Wild Rose and Co. Marketplace’s very first workshop!
When?
Saturday, October 23 from 11 am – 2 pm
Where?
Walkersville, Md – in the church fellowship hall next door to Wild Rose
What?
I will be teaching a workshop on how to make my German Glass Glitter Letters and some of my fellow vendors from the shop will show some clever ideas on how to use them.  We will all enjoy a lunch catered by The Corner Bakery and yummy desserts by Snikety Snacks.  In addition, some items from the store will be put up on the “silent auction” block and we’ll have several giveaways!
How much?
The cost is $30 per person, which covers the materials (you get to take home the glittered letters you make), lunch, and the use of the space.
RSVP
Space is limited, so please send me an e-mail or contact the shop directly at 301-304-0105 to secure your spot!
This is the first workshop of many, so watch for announcements of other special events (including a swap meet where I’ll be joining forces with a fellow blogger.)
Second, I need some help.  About a year ago I found a huge stash of vintage and antique sheet music in my grandparents attic, which has been my source for wreaths, furniture and other projects.

I want to continue to make these, but my supply is running low.  Does anyone out there have a stash of old sheet music?

I’m not looking for the collectible stuff with pretty covers.  I’m looking for old piano books and sheet music that has been used and bent and written on.  It’s even OK if a bug made a meal out of a corner of it and it’s dusty from sitting in a garage for 20 years.  Basically, I want the cheap stuff, not the expensive stuff.  I will pay or trade for it.  I can make a free sheet music wreath in exchange or send you one of my other creations or antique finds that caught your eye.  Just send me an e-mail directly if you have any.  (marian@missmustardseed.com)

Lastly, do you know that I love sending personal e-mails to people who leave nice comments or ask questions? Have you never received an e-mail from me? There may be a quick technical fix you can make that will make it much easier for bloggers(and me)  to respond to you. If you ask a question and do not have an e-mail address on your profile, I have to click on your profile, go to your blog and leave a comment on one of your posts. It takes a lot of time, so I can’t always do it. If you have an e-mail in your profile, I just click on your name and shoot you an e-mail. Here’s how you do it.

Go to your Blogger dashboard.
Click on “Edit Profile.”
Make sure the e-mail address listed is the one you want people to respond to
Check “show my e-mail” under the privacy settings.

I know…we don’t want our e-mail addresses made public. I totally understand that, but I’ve had my e-mail address on my website, my blog, and my profile and I rarely receive SPAM. This small change will plug you into the community even more, so go make it right now!

My Mom and I are definitely in for the class. I'm loving my 'Baked' letters! I talked to Lynette about being a part of it, so I'm pretty sure she's added us to the list. I can't wait to learn from the pro!
      (Thanks for the plug!)

    2. Sarah AKA The Thriftress

That is like the one weekend I am free and I want in on the class! I am so, SO excited!
      Sarah

    3. Finding Home

Thanks for the help, I made the change. I am actually planning on doing some workshops over the next few months (wish I lived close enough to go to yours!). Would love to hear how it worked out and any suggestions. You are already so generous with your guidance so hopefully I am not asking too much!

    4. Ellen

Good morning….I also have a thing for sheet music, I just love it. I found a lot of mine at the Friends of the Library book sales, I go to used book stores as well and have had some good luck there. I will check my stash and send you some if you send me your address.
      Ellen

    5. Amy @MaisonDecor

Marian, where can I get the german glitter? I would love to come to your workshop but am too far away…

    6. Stephanie

Good luck on your class! Lucky people who live in the area and get to attend! I see sheet music at Estate sales, I will pick you up some next time.

    7. whirligigdaisy

This class sounds incredible. Wish I lived closer. Best of luck with it and your new business. So exciting.

    8. Lacey

Oooo… I wish I was closer to take that class! Perhaps an online tutorial later down the road? The letters are just beautiful!!

Thanks for the tip with the email address! I defiantly want to be more "plugged in"!

    9. Okie Chic

Girl I see it all the time. I'll pick you up some it you want next time I go to the thrift store.

    10. Maureen

Is it absolutely essential that you use the original sheet music? I used some for a sizable project last year and I wanted to keep the originals so I made copies. You can't use inkjet copies because they smear but laser printer or copier works fine.

      I still love that dresser!

    11. Kelly at Magnolia Sugar

thos letters are beautiful! I would love to come but not sure how far it is from where we are in Woodbridge VA…I'll have to do a mapquest and figure it out because it sounds like a great time!

    12. ChRiS

i will keep my eyes open for some i did just see some on ebay like 2 nights ago….gl with your classes i think it will go over huge am hoping to get down that way in the next few weeks anyways if i find any sheets i will email you.

    13. The Far Fifty

Thanks for the PSA, I hate "noreply-comment@blogger" that such a pet peeve! I love responding to people directly!

    14. Laura @ Just For Love

I have a wedding that day and can't come : ( Darn it! Well, I am totally coming to the next workshop, that's for sure. Hope it goes really well and is a lot of fun for all!

      Love, Laura

    15. Ann Marie @ Twice Lovely

Marion, Have you looked on Ebay for old sheet music. Here's a lot that looks interesting. http://cgi.ebay.com/HUGE-Lot-old-sheet-music-pieces-altered-art-crafts-/140411511344?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item20b12da230

I also really like to search Craigslist for things. Did you know you can search Craigslists all across the country at once using Google? For example, you can type in "sheet music lot site:craigslist.org" and it will find all the appropriate ads on ALL of the craigslist sites. You just have to email them and see if they'd be willing to ship to you and accept a PayPal payment. Here's a CHEAP lot: http://dayton.craigslist.org/msg/1953205270.html

Hope that helps!! Good luck in your search!

    16. Lori

Wish I could help you with the sheet music. I am collecting sheet music right now so that I can make a sheet music wreath in time for Christmas. I just bought about 40 pieces of sheet music on Ebay for 25 dollars. I spent an hour going through them all. Some of the cover art is gorgeous. Some pieces date as far back as the 1880s. Once I finish the wreath, I will post a link and I promise to give you credit for the idea. I am making it for my home, not to resell.

    17. cleverpenguin

Wish I was closer to you for the workshops. They sound like fun! As for old sheet music, I have none now, but I'll keep my eyes open.

    18. Allison

I just saw a bunch of old sheet music at our local Goodwill on Friday. I will go today and see if it's still there. If so, I'll pick it up for you! I'm crossing my fingers!

    19. Sixty-Fifth Avenue

Oh I would love to be there, sounds like a great time. Could you tell me how much the glitter letters are and if you still have the little cloches on the silver stands?

      Thanks, Londen

    20. mama donk aubri jo

I love the sheet music, unfortunately I can't help you there, but my sister in-law recently did a similar projects using an old political dictionary. looked really cool . . . just a thought for ya 🙂

    21. Jen T

I wish I could come – I'm in GA! Would you consider posting a tutorial for a fee? That way those of us who aren't close can learn too? Just a thought.

    22. Jessica @ Simply A Farmer's Wife

Wish I lived closer so I could attend. When I saw your sheet music wreath I looked all over for sheet music and found about 25 sheets on Etsy but have had no luck finding anymore. Hope you have better luck than I did!

    23. Sheila

      Hi there,
First things first…I just became a follower and I love your heart and I love that you share your projects and thought that inspire/help other Women 🙂 I have a stash and would be happy to send some your way. Please email me privately and include your address and I would be happy to send you a few books 🙂

      Blessings,
      Sheila

    24. Michele

Your dresser inspired me to make a set of "nightstands" out of a couple of old dressers my neighbors were throwing out. haha. I LOVE sheet music. If you get tons, send me some. 😉 jk

    25. freckled laundry

I'd love to attend your workshop, Marian but we aren't heading to Annapolis until the following weekend! What a great little workshop idea. I hope it's okay with you…I'll be sharing your glittered letters that I purchased and will link to this post. It's perfect timing for bling week. If I find any sheet music during my thrift store trips, I'll certainly send it to you. I'm going to ask around on my personal Facebook right now…

      Hugs,
      Jami

    26. Jessica @ Home and Faith

If you are looking for sheet music, check your local junior high or high schools. I know I was in the band ( a long time ago ha!), and one year we threw out a ton of old music that was from decades ago! Never hurts to try, right? 🙂

    27. m e g a n

I want to go! It sounds like so much fun… but I think it would be quite a trip for me to attend coming from Florida! Have fun and good luck with it!!!

    28. Sarah

I love your glittered letters. I just made some for a Halloween banner. Too bad I don't live closer or else I'd take your class.

    29. Denise at PinkPostcard.

      Hi Marian!
I'm in the same boat as so many others…Oregon is just about as far away as I could get from your class! 🙁 I would sign up in a heartbeat just to meet you and learn from you!

I recently purchased some old sheet music at a garage sale (the good OLD stuff) and another blogger said that she photocopies it and then ages it with an aging medium. I think I will try that route for my project- I'm hoping to 'wallpaper' my craft room ceiling with it!

      good luck with your class!

Darn! Wish you weren't so far from California, I'd love to take your class. Also, add me to the list of those who'd like a tutorial for the sheet music wreath.

      Barbara

    31. Shell

I can't take your class..BOOOOO but I'll hunt around to see if I can find some German sheet music for you. I'm going to Paris next weekend & I'll look for some there too.

    32. Sharon @ Elizabeth & Co.

I love the idea of workshops! And lunch too. What fun! So sad I'll be away for the first one, but hope you make it a regular thing. And I have also been on the lookout for sheet music. It's definitely hard to find!

    33. Ratty Hugs

Rats, too far away for the glitter letters class. Oh well.
As for needing more sheet music, I'll share my fav spot for it. I use the local library thrift shop.
My source is called "Title Wave". Great Name, huh? Here is it's website & they do ship if you aren't close.
      http://www.multcolib.org/titlewave/
I have found a wide selection of music there. I have operas, musicals, choir, and nursery rhymes. All are multi lingual. I have Italian, French, German, Dutch, Norwegian & Russian. Some are have lovely drawings & some are so pretty I can't cut the originals up.
      Good luck in the hunt.

    34. Kim

Wow, you are doing so much these days. So many fun adventures with the classes and store booth. It looks like it is all going well too. I'm happy for you.

    35. Vikki

HI! I just found you tonight, and you immediately went into my RSS feed! I love your style.

I wish I could help with the sheet music; I actually am a singer/actor/dancer, but none of my sheet music looks as beautiful as that which you require (mine's mostly copies), and it's still in use from time to time. Good luck though; I'd kill for one of your wreaths; good year round wreath!

Hope to stay in touch; i'll pop by again soon!

i'll be sure to keep my eyes open for you!

    37. Wolfsong254

When I want to make stuff with "old" sheet music, I just print free sheet music I find on the internet (there's TONS out there) and then "age" it by soaking it with tea or coffee. That may be too time intensive for you, but it's free! E

    38. Marie De Marco

      marian,
i love the idea of the work shop!! a tade too far this time. i live on the jersey shore, i'm about 3 1/2 from gettysburg. how far does that make me from your shop?. have you thought about making copies of the sheet music. i know it's not the same as an original piece of sheet music.
      blessings
      marie

    39. Tricia

Thank your for the tip on making my e-mail available. It's the next thing I'm going to do after this comment. Like all of those who live far away, I too would love to take your class. Good luck with it. The sheet music dresser is adorable.

    40. Michelle @Shellsshabbyshack

I adore the sheet music look on just about anything. That dresser is to die for. I'm trying a wreath, as we speak! You have incredible taste! Well done!

    41. Cori

Have you thought about doing a tutorial (for a fee) for your glittered letters? I would love to learn how you do them before the holiday season is in full force.

PS: I'd be first to sign up : )

    42. Finding Home

This morning I went to an estate sale and I hit the MOTHER LOAD of old sheet music!!!!!!!!!

It is funny how life steers us on such interesting paths. I was so impresssed that you actually reached out and asked for help on your sheet music quest. There are so many amazing women in my life who are so free to give but so challenged to ask. Since you were so willing to ask, I really wanted to see what I could find, so I put out some feelers, but came out empty. Even my daughters were excited about finding sheet music for Miss Mustard Seed! I can't wait to show them when they get home from school what I found!

So, please send me your address so I can mail some of these to you. There is so much I will be sorting through it first so it may take a little bit. I think I will try to find a flat rate box to make sending it easiest!

If you would like to see pictures, I will try to show some samples later on my blog.

      Sincerely,
      Laura
