fun finds

I haven’t been on any big shopping trips lately, but I’ve picked up some fun things here and there that I haven’t shared here on the blog, yet.  I thought today seemed like a good day to do that.

A few weeks ago, I bought this white toy truck from one of my “pickers”. I decided to keep it for now!  I happened to have just bought some old bottle-brush trees and one fit perfectly in the bed.

I’ll probably paint the hubcaps at some point.

Also while I was out antiquing, I picked up this German barley canister…

I have a similar, larger jar in this “blue onion” pattern by my stove.  I’m going to try to find the perfect spot for this, so I can keep it.

The month of December is usually a slower one when it comes to deadlines, obligations, etc., so I’m hoping to take some time to play with the accessories in my house.  I haven’t done that in a while and I’m feeling the pull.  Things are getting rearranged for the holidays, anyway, so it’s a perfect time to do that.

Anyway, I also picked up some clothespins…

…but they are numbered!  I haven’t seen any like this before, so I commented on that to the shop-owner when I purchased them.  She shared that they are numbers used to mark window screens when they are removed for the winter and she just added them to the end of old clothespins.  How clever!  Wouldn’t this be a great idea for an advent calendar?

I bought a couple of small pieces at the Vintage Whites Market last weekend – this Dutch enamel butter dish…

…and a French sampler…

I actually photographed parts of it to make a few products for Society6

(Speaking of, I uploaded some more designs today.)

While out and about a couple of weeks ago, I found these wool “mugs of hot chocolate” at Target.  Aren’t they so cute?  I am going to use them as embellishments on gifts.

And lastly, this isn’t something I found, but something that was sent to me.  Domino just released their newest book, Your Guide to a Stylish Home.

While the style typically showcased in Domino is on the modern side, I love stepping outside of my box a little to find fresh inspiration.  I can’t wait to pour through it over Thanksgiving.

I’m heading out shopping with my mom tomorrow and I hope to find lots of goodies to list in the online shop…

That sampler is beautiful. I have always enjoyed that little truck in your vignettes, looks cute with the tree in the back, too.
Was there a winner in the Home Goods/T.J. Maxx giveaway?

Great finds! I haven’t ever seen clothespins numbered either. That’s interesting how they were used. My favorite out of all these is the old truck with the tree. That is so cute!

You have such a good eye for finding great finds. I look forward to seeing what you add to your shop. I really like the designs you added to Society6, especially the PA orchard. I work at a PA orchard and your design is my view when I leave for the evening. Love it.

Exactly how does Society6 work Marian? What do you send them? And obviously they take some cut of the price. I’m heading there again to see what you added.

I upload the artwork and select which products I want it on (how I want it cropped, etc). They print-to-order, handle the fulfillment and shipping and I make a royalty on each piece sold. It’s a nice way to get my work out there without having to do it all myself!

I had asked about this darling little truck a few posts ago…but I will enjoy you enjoying it!

Looks like a late 50’s Tonka.
I am 62 years old and still have my original Tonkas that I got for Christmas when I was 8 or 9 years old. I do collect them now, but the originals go under the tree every year at Christmas time, filed with pine boughs and pinecones. I like the little tree you have put in yours.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Love the little white truck. My father-in-law used to drive a green VW in the sixties and when my husband’s mom passed he inherited the little toy VW. Since her passing, I decoarte the little love bug for the Christmas season with a tiny vintage bottle brush tree and place it on it’s roof tied with jute rope.I think it’s my husband’s favorite Christmas decor I do .
Oh and thanks for the follow on Society6,Marian! Very much appreciated.

I had to chuckle about the clothes pins as I just gave away a gallon jar of them and have another just taking up space. What a great idea to use an old sampler to make cute bags!! And I literally just walked in the door from buying that book! Have a lovely time shopping with your mom!! All your recent finds are so sweet!!! Have a great weekend! (still loving the dining room chairs we bought from you several years ago!!)

Love your finds! Again, I live through your excursions and shopping trips. Just can’t find the things you find where I am. Thanks for sharing your treasures!

I love the braided jute trim you have sold in the past. Are you by any chance getting more of it in?

      God Bless,
      Frances

I have those numbers! Found them at a garage sale of another dealer. I have 2 sets-they’ve sat in my booth for months-I wanted to use them but couldn’t think of anything to use them on! I think they will come home with me

I’m so excited to know about Society6! Now I can have one of your sheep! And possibly the cow, too! I am building a little collection of cow art. I found a lovely little 4×6 painting on canvas of a black and white Holstein cow and her nursing calf in a thrift store in Albuquerque, NM when we were there last spring. It is very professionally done and just the sweetest little painting. Sold in a thrift store! No signature or anything. I can’t imagine why someone would donate something like that to a thrift store. But I’m glad they did, so I could find it and bring it home with me!

The clothes pins are my favorite

In what section of Target did you find the wool mugs of cocoa? There’s no reference for size in your photos but I’m hoping they are doll sized. They would be perfect for my daughter’s AG doll’s stocking.

      • marian

They were in the Christmas section with the ornaments. I would say they are “child size”, so they would be a little bit big for a doll, but definitely workable. They would be great for “tea parties”!
