Faux Fur in Winter Decor

Faux fur has been in decor for a while, but I have to admit that I was never really drawn to it.  The main reason, and this is probably a little silly, is that it always looked and felt Muppet-ish to me.  You know what I mean?  It felt matted and like polyester, not sumptuous and silky.

Well, I’m finally coming around.  Either faux fur has come a long way or I’ve finally been exposed to the good faux fur that’s been out there for a while.

When I was looking at dog beds for Sebastian, I surprised myself that I was drawn to the Ivory Alpaca Faux Fur Pet Bed from Pottery Barn.  It just looked so inviting!  Jeff joked that I was shopping for a dog bed for myself.  What else do I have to base the buying decision on except for what I think will look comfortable?

And it’s soft and comfy, just as I hoped it would be.  Well, I haven’t slept on it, but Sebastian does regularly and he seems to enjoy it!  (Calvin has curled up on it a few times, but we make him get in his bed!)

Pottery Barn asked if I would be interested in trying out a few more of their faux fur products.  Since I was so pleased with the feel of Sebastian’s bed and I’ve loved my Cozy Cable Knit throw (with a faux sheepskin side) for a few years, I agreed.

My favorite faux fur at the moment is faux sheepskin, like these pillow covers.  They are a “quieter fur” that look downy and fluffy and, to me, have a more casual look.  If you’re thinking about introducing faux fur into your home for the winter, I think this is a good place to start.  It doesn’t give the “glam” look that you get with some of the sleeker faux furs.  It’s a bit more subtle, which I like.

I decided to give a sleeker, more luxurious fur throw a try with the Gathered Faux Fur Throw in Alpaca, which is a creamy white.  It really is a lovely throw that I am tucked under as I write this post and I feel like it lends a festive feel, nudging my home decor into a Christmasy direction.

And it’s even prettier in person.  It’s a sumptuously soft fur on one side and a velvety smooth fabric on the other.

The Cozy Cable Knit Throw has been known as the “mommy blanket” for a few years, but this one is the new “mommy blanket”.

Although, I will share.  I mean, how can I not?

If using faux fur in your home isn’t your thing, faux fur on your feet is hard to resist!

Pottery Barn also has faux fur slippers and booties

…and lots of other fuzzy things like stockings, tree skirts, and more.

And Pottery Barn is currently offering 20% off and free shipping on all throws as well as 20% off robes and slippers.

So, how do you like your faux fur?

The throw in Alpaca looks so beautiful and warm. Perfect for winter!

Love Pottery Barn; love faux fur; and love your blog! Perfect combination!

Such a beautiful use of fur in your home. I have to admit that I’ve cut bat mats (the knobby, textural ones) and made them into pillows. And, I am blessed to have my mamaw’s mink cape (lined with satin) circa 1920 that I don’t wear, but drape over a chair in winter. I think if we look around, we can find lots of inspiration to add interest and personality to our homes.

My BFF gave me a faux fur last year for Christmas. It is furry soft on one side and cuddle cozy on the other. I’ve been keeping it on the foot of my bed (which the cats love!) but am thinking to move it to the couch and add some new throw pillows for winter. Our current weather has been unseasonably warm, so it’s hard to think of cuddling under it right now, but we’ll have our winter weather sooner or later and I’ll be ready!
On another note, Marian, I look forward to seeing you at the Vintage Whites Market in Kalispell MT this weekend. I will be helping my BFF with her booth – Chippy Paint Chick. I invite you to come check her out. She is awesome with painted furniture!
Will you have some of your products available for sale at this show? I purchased your first look book earlier in the year at the Vintage Whites show in Colorado. Would love to try some of the milk paint – namely, Farmhouse White and Shutter Gray.
      Blessings and Safe Travel!

I have the slippers and love them!

I just purchased the alpaca throw and it’s become “my” blanket, too. Your home looks great!

When I go to Home Goods I rarely know what to buy. Then I see something that screams buy me & it’s always the perfect item.

I have a beautiful faux fur throw that I purchased at HomeGoods and love using it in the colder months. The one I have is very soft, luxurious and washes nice. I have also seen some very nice ones at Pottery Barn and when they are on sale it makes it even better. I have also given them in the past as Christmas gifts and everyone loves them!

The faux fur adds a lovely layer of texture to your living space!

I love the coziness and warmth. I have a black and white dog who sheds terribly, and most fur has polyester which causes the hair to stick. I’m open to solutions.

I too have several Pottery Barn throws. They wash nicely and they are really cozy! Enjoy

I see the “glam” faux fur on some blogs, and I break out in hives. All I can think is yikes, what if someone spills fruit juice or chips on it? You could never get it clean. And then I also think in 6 months it will look a little grimy and matted, so why bother? So, when I saw your title, I was a little hesitant. But you show you a much more tactile-friendly and sturdy type of faux fur. Thank you for opening my eyes to alternative faux furs that are cozy and comforting. ‘Course, we had 90 degree weather down here in So Cal this week, so we are all hoping for a nice cool Thanksgiving.

I love the fake sheepskin look best, too. Pottery Barn had and has a great throw and pillow cover. I have a loveseat in a small apartment with two chairs and a small bench in my living room, as far as seating goes. The plaid blue, cream, and green oversized armchair, my cream armchair with colorful button tufting, and my loveseat with a cream slipcover, the throw works on. The throw complements every piece of furniture in here. I can drape it on anything. The pillow cover I paid $10 for, and I got it at Pottery Barn, too. The fuzzy fur ones I didn’t care for. I thought they had overly long fake fur and were too “animal” looking.

Your pillow cover looks like the same one I have. I love it! I don’t get the pillows with scratchy decorative beads or metal or something you have to move aside to sit down. I love just laying on this pillow. One was enough for my loveseat. I am very glad I got it!
