the by-product of a beautiful environment

I took an online landscape watercolor journaling class a couple of months ago through the Jeanne Oliver Creative Network.  The class was taught by Michelle Wooderson and I was not only inspired by the techniques and studies, but how Michelle paid so much attention to the details of all of her supplies.  Every element was thoughtful and personal.  I mean, now I *needed* a rubber date stamp for my sketches and watercolors!

And as soon as I saw her mixing her paint in little ironstone butter pats…  well, there was no denying that she’s a kindred spirit.  As I was watching the videos, I found myself more interested in her supplies than the assignment!

It’s like her artwork was just a by-product that sprang forth out of the beautiful environment it was created in.

Since that class, I’ve been following her on Instagram @mishwooderson .  If you already love art supplies, you’re in for a treat.  If you don’t see what the big deal is with art supplies, you’ll find yourself wanting to buy them just to use for decoration.

Her posts have been a creative pick-me-up as I’ve been going through the creativity-sucking process of packing!  I’m pushing to finish, so I can have more time to create again.

Even though I have a couple of watercolor palettes set up already, I couldn’t resist a blue & white vintage tin from Michelle’s online shop.

She sets up these palettes with 1/2 pans, so they are all set to fill with your favorite colors.  Michelle even shares how she sets up her color palettes, which is very helpful for an aspiring artist, like me.

You can shop Michelle’s online store HERE (and she does have more of those Artista tins).

As I was packing up my “keep pile” at the studio this afternoon and found myself day-dreaming about what my new studio space might look like and how I would set it up.

For the past three years, I have been renting a studio space about a mile from my house.  It’s been the right space for this season of my business, but I’m hoping to have my studio in our next home.  There are advantages and disadvantages to having a workspace in the home, but I feel like that’s a good direction for me to go at this time.

By the way, I’m not being dodgy about where we’re moving.  I know it sounds crazy, but we really don’t know 100%, yet!  It’s a step of faith.

And I’m no stranger to those…

I’ve been a fan of Mish for years! I am a paper crafter and have been following her since her days as a designer for a few of my favourite stamp companies. I miss her scrap and card designs but have so enjoyed her journey into painting and sketching. She was the first blogger that sparked my love for using old stuff in my everyday life, and I’ve found so much inspiration from all different facets of her blog for years. How fun that you were so inspired by her! You’re definitely kindred souls… It’s awesome that you connected!

I took the same class and felt the same way about her supplies and the easy confidence she has in her paintings. I too follow her on Instagram and her feed is not only beautiful, but inspiring. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a move to northeast Georgia or western North Carolina. ?

Well if you move to Michigan, I want to be first in line to be your studio stooge 😀 You’re my hero. Praying for these next steps for you and the fam.

Thanks so much for sharing Mish! I was just looking for a source for watercolor inspiration. Perfect timing!
      Blessings!

As I was reading this post, I was super surprised when you said that you had been in your studio for three years. No! Way! I remember reading the posts when you first moved in to it. It can’t be three years.

I just recently purchased your blueberry print shown in this post from Society 6! I love it! My only regret is that it isn’t signed 🙁 I am not an artist, but your work inspires creativity! Is there a post somewhere on how you created the mural that you used as a backdrop at Lucketts? It is beautiful!

You will tell us when it’s time! But of course, we all can’t wait!

Oh my, you are definitely speaking to the creative in me. I adore art supplies. Pencils, pens, paints, brushes and paper. I guess buying new supplies is like buying new possibilities. Art supplies call to me.

I took Michelle’s online class as well! Loved her teaching and you’re so right about her supplies! Can’t wait to see where you will settle. Blessings to you and hope all goes well.

Aforanle. You’ve undoubtedly motivated a number of readers to become painters, based solely on the cuteness of your supplies.

Kudos for envisioning your ideal next studio. Now, when you and Jeff are house-hunting and you see it, you’ll recognize it.

      Aforanle=Adorable (at least I didn’t type “Covfefe.”)

Was just wondering if you’ll take up your flooring you put down in the studio? I LOVE art supplies!!

Hi Marian! Happy to hear all is well and moving along nicely! I haven’t heard you speak about Kristy in a while. She must feel terrible that your moving! She has been your right hand for a very long time!
Blessings to you and your family on this move!

      • Marian Parsons

Well, Kriste has her own sidekick, now! A little baby boy. 🙂 So, we’re both moving on in different ways. She’ll still be working for me, but not in the same capacity. It works for both of us for this season of our lives, though.

You’re not an “aspiring artist”, you ARE an artist! So sad to see the studio empty, but know God will use all your skills & abilities He’s developed in you for the next chapter also! A year ago, I was letting go of a dream, but now I’m beginning to see His leading in new exciting directions. His timing is always perfect-can’t wait to hear where He places your dear family. Blessings…

I believe in favor. I’m believing for favor for this studio in your home.

thank you over and over again . . . for the link to Michelle’s site . . . I have been wanting to begin to experiment with watercolor but daunted by all of the choices. Now I will take my first baby step.

I took Mish’s watercolor class as well and was also inspired by her use of vintage objects, many of which I already had in my possession. She is a wonderful teacher as well, and gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and begin painting. I have to reign in my desire to collect all the supplies, though. Lol
