Latest Thrift Store Yield

I stopped by my local thrift store yesterday and found a beauty of a birdcage.  I have been looking for one for a while and I saw this one tucked up on a shelf.  Lately this thrift store has gotten a little pricey with certain items and this was $12.00, which is not dirt cheap, but I thought it was worth it.  It had a few nicks and dings and was filthy, but it was otherwise in … [Read more...]

Furniture Feature Friday – Winners & A Link Party!

And my favorites from last week are...A fun and funky chair makeover by Kim at The Inadvertent Farmer.   First of all, this chair was really ugly.  It was a blah oak with an even blah-er seat cover.  She borrowed an idea from BHG's Decorating Ideas for Under $100 and applied foam stickers to up the "fun factor" on this piece.  She then painted it a bright … [Read more...]

The Greatest Form of Flattery

I was so excited to receive an e-mail from a sweet woman named Rose.  She shared with me that she was inspired by my Chalkboard Table Tutorial and made her own creation. Here is the table she tackled.  Brave woman.  This table looked pretty dated....and here is the result!  Didn't she do a wonderful job?  I love her interpretation of my table with her octagonal … [Read more...]

I Aim to Please

To be honest, my post yesterday about my French Settee was a bit of a "throw away" post.  I have been out with a cold, so I needed something to share.  Not having anything new, I looked through my pictures to see what I could write about.  I had some pictures of the settee and I had not shared about it, before, so that was the winner.  I had some requests to see it with the … [Read more...]

My French Settee

I bought this Country Home book several years ago and it made me want a white, slipcovered French settee.  On a side note, does anyone else miss Country Home?  Family Circle was not the same at all and a ridiculous substitution for my subscription.  Anyway...I loved everything about this sofa and I just had to find one.Fast forward about seven years and I found my French … [Read more...]

Playing Magazine

One thing I've really enjoyed about blogging is taking pictures of all of my stuff.  I never really had an excuse to before, so my poor kids had a flash going off in their face all the time.  Now, I just love arranging things, finding the right light, zooming in, and getting the money shot.  I feel like I'm shooting for a magazine.  It's so much fun and since I'm still sick in … [Read more...]

A Better Looking Tomorrow…

Well, I was in bed by 7:30 tonight, socked out with a nasty cold.  For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know I am a busy girl and I like using every minute of my day.  When I'm in bed during my prime work time, you know I don't feel well.  So, I thought I would share some results of my new toy, my mat cutter.  I've wanted one for years and I finally asked … [Read more...]

Gold Leaf Tutorial

I was asked by Amy at The Lemon Cottage if I would do a tutorial on gold leafing.  So, Amy, this one's for you!  I purchased an entire armload of large, dated frames at an auction for a quarter.  I was not quite sure what I was going to do with them at the time, but the auctioneer looked at me and almost pleaded me to take them off his hands.  These two frames were in that … [Read more...]

Half Canopy Tutorial

I have received a huge response from my half canopy, so I am following up with a tutorial.  I try to keep all of my posts from being too wordy, but this one will be the exception.  Now, I did not take pictures while sewing, but I've included a drawing and I'll talk you through it.  The sewing part of this tutorial assumes that you have some sewing skills and can figure it out.  … [Read more...]

Oh, The Joy

I am over the moon this afternoon because my husband was able to install the half canopy I made for our bed.  I have wanted one of these for years and have never had the guts to put that much fabric into one project.  I'm not sure why...but at long last, here it is.  French country is my thing and the toile fabric and the style of the canopy really emphasize that without being … [Read more...]

I’m Dying Here!

Last night I went to bed late after working on my half canopy for several hours.  I was so excited to wake up this morning and have some time to finish and install it.  Well, the bug that has passed from my 3 year old to my 1 1/2 year old finally passed to my husband and he was in bed all day, sick as a dog.  Sigh.  I was able to get all of the sewing and construction completed … [Read more...]

A Rough Morning…

I had a rough morning.  My 1 1/2 year old has been sick and either he's crying or wants to be held.  This extra attention to the sick child has made my 3 year old demanding and fussy.  After being cooped up in the house for most of the week with this dynamic, I finally lost it.  My wonderful husband could hear that I was rapidly becoming the mommy monster and I needed a … [Read more...]

Furniture Feature Friday & A Winner

I'm sure it's getting old hearing this, but it was really, really hard to pick a winner from last week's entries.  There were a lot of great pieces.  Especially chairs!  I have a chair that I've been a little scared to tackle and you girls have inspired me.  Even if I rip it apart and can't get it back together, I'm only out $6.00...so, what am I scared of? Anyway, I just love … [Read more...]

More Master Bedroom Updates

First of all, it was a very good day for me.  I sold a large piece of furniture at the shop, I delivered a completed gold leafed frame to a client and I got an exciting phone call from an interior designer who loves my work and is interested in some of my furniture and some custom work.  It was also in the balmy 40's, so I was able to do some spraying.  I am bubbling over, so I just … [Read more...]

I treated myself by hitting Hobby Lobby and Goodwill last week and came home with a bunch of goodies.  I found this small ornate mirror for $2.97 at Goodwill.  It's plastic, but I love the shape and the antiqued mirror. I can't wait to paint it up...it's going to be amazing.I bought 4 vintage hangers for $.97.  I also found this damask curtain panel and brown and aqua curtain … [Read more...]
