studio happenings

With freelance design work and a book deadline looming, I have been pinned down in my new workspace to get things done and turned in on time.  I feel like I'm learning and growing each day and I'm really proud of what I've been creating, but I am ready to hit an antique store, work on some furniture and just get away from my desk! Just a few days more... While I've been working on those  (read more …)

$100 craigslist drafting table

I have realized that as my work changes, my work space needs to change, too.  When I work on furniture and photoshoots, I rarely sit at a desk or work table.  I'm usually crawling around on the floor or scooting around on one of our wheely stools.  I'm in a season right now, though, where a lot of my work involves sitting, painting, sketching, and writing. I've been spread out over one of our  (read more …)

QuickStep Flooring Review

A couple of weeks ago, I shared the Quick-Step laminate flooring I selected to install in a corner of the studio to use for photo shoots.  I have been wanting to do this for a long time, not because the old floor boards in the studio aren't cool, but because they are #1 - very orange and #2 - there was a large plywood patch on one side of the room.  If this was my house or a space that I owned, my  (read more …)

things have changed…

I've been needing to write this post for a while now, but the words were just never there.  I have felt stuck with my blog for a few weeks, though, and I knew I would feel stuck until I made myself sit down and write. I need to tell you, my readers, that things have changed. Don't worry.  It's all good stuff.  I'm not dropping any bombs, here.  I just need to put it out there, maybe more for  (read more …)

studio flooring options

In my post yesterday, I shared that we'll be installing some new flooring in the studio.  Well, not in the entire studio, but a corner of it, so I can use that area for photo shoots.  The corner we'll be installing it in is this one... You can see that the flooring is a bit of a mish-mash; some of the old pine and some plywood, so I haven't used that corner for photo shoots despite the nice  (read more …)

prove yourself wrong

I have some things to share tonight, but I'm going to do something I don't usually (or ever) do.  I'm going to ask you to watch this video first and then read the post.  The reason is that I'm going to talk about the video and I don't want you to read all about it before you watch it.  Okay?  Deal? Did you watch it?  Okay, now you can read... So, Saturday morning, I was showering to get ready  (read more …)

behind the scenes | online shop

Since the online shop has been a big focus in the studio for the past couple of weeks, I thought I would share a little bit of the "behind the scenes" for those who are curious about our process. Our process has been a bit all over the place, since we don't do this regularly, but we're getting into a groove and are becoming more efficient. In fact, Kriste and I spent the majority of the day  (read more …)

back to work & other things…

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend.  My three day weekend was actually an eight day weekend, since I took a week off to recover from the Lucketts Spring Market (and months of work leading up to it!)  I still did computer work...e-mail, blog posts, social media, etc., but I took a break from going into the studio.  I really needed that time to step away and recharge. I had some appointments.  I  (read more …)
