updated kitchen pictures

Before we dive into the pictures, I had to share something funny.  My mom read my post from yesterday and immediately got her painting clothes ready.  You see, she helps me on Wednesday nights when the boys are at Awana and she knew after reading the post that we would be painting my guest room!  She knows me so well and was, of course, right.  We painted most of the guest room tonight.  I still  (read more …)

painting the last bar stool…finally

Back in June of 2013 I painted the bar stools at my kitchen counter...well, two of them, anyway.  I don't recall why I didn't get to the third one, but I'm sure I just got busy with other things and the idea of painting one bar stool seemed a bit boring.  You can see the stools peeking up over the bar in this picture... I was getting the itch to paint some furniture and finish projects that  (read more …)

sneak peek, butcher block update & color of the month

I finished up the dresser today and here's a preview of it... This is one of those pieces that I needed to adjust my plan as I worked.  There were all sorts of quirks...with the piece, not with the paint.  I'll share how I dealt with all of those issues and, of course, show how the dresser looks.  Keep an eye out for that post next week. Photo shoots in my kitchen almost always involve me  (read more …)

Range Hood Tutorial & More…

For those who were interested, the tutorial on how we made the range hood in our kitchen is now live on HGTV.com HERE.  This was one of my favorite projects, because it made a huge difference in making the kitchen look custom and higher end. Speaking of my kitchen, I have an exciting photo shoot coming up, so I've been keeping an eye out for cool kitchen things.  I actually already have a  (read more …)

Milk Painted Bar Stool

After a few years of leaving them as I bought them (I know, what is wrong with me?), I finally started painting my Target bar stools.  I actually just painted one to experiment, before I did the other two. I love how it pops against the white cabinets and wood counters now.  Before, the stools were blending into the counter and floors and felt a little "eh." This stool was painted in  (read more …)

Polenta & Veggie Stuffed Red Peppers

I decided today to share one of my favorite recipes of late...polenta & veggie stuffed red peppers.  And they are around 275 calories for an entire pepper! Now, I've never been a huge fan of peppers...until I overlooked the price tag and bought red, orange and yellow peppers.  Oh my.  They are sweet and delicious cooked or raw.  So, the idea of stuffed peppers never appealed to me until I  (read more …)

How we installed our undermount sink…

I knew I wanted to install a new sink when we were putting in new counters.  The sink we had was an enamel-coated cast iron sink that was full of scratches and chips and water was always hanging around the lip.  So, when I was looking for a new sink, I considered a farmhouse-style sink, but I already hated having a white sink (think coffee settling into all of the fine scratches and looking  (read more …)

Kitchen Reveal & Sources

It's finally done!  Well...you know what "done" means in my house.  It means I'm done with it for now.  Although, aside from changing paint colors and/or accessories, I don't think there's much more I can or need to do to this room.  I've always been drawn to white cabinets with dark counters (wood or black) and a wood or white floor.  Now I have it!   Here's a tour...  (read more …)
