guest room to boy’s room

My boys have been sharing a room from the point when my youngest, Calvin, was sleeping through the night.  They are 19 months apart and both boys, so it's just made sense to have them share a room. Now that they are nine and almost eight, I'm seeing that they are both craving their own space.  Since they have the same interests and are so close in age they pretty much share everything.  While  (read more …)

an inspired room

I love celebrating friends and their achievements.  And one of my blog friends has something to celebrate.  Melissa Michaels of The Inspired Room, just released her latest book, also called The Inspired Room! I had the pleasure of spending time with Melissa as we prepared to teach a workshop on writing a book at the Haven conference this past summer.  I respect her a lot as a designer and an  (read more …)

evolution of my home | part 8 | the guest room

First of all, thank you so much to all of my readers who have answered my questions from yesterday!  I have been trying to respond to all of them, but I haven't been able to keep up!  I am reading all of them, though, and I'm taking notes, writing down some ideas and I'm definitely seeing some patterns that confirm some things I've been thinking about.  Thanks for being constructive,  (read more …)

a quilt, a step stool & a trip

We had a beautiful sunny weekend that was warm with a cool breeze and it put me in the mood to freshen up a few things around the house.  (I would've loved to go on a hike or have a picnic at a playground, but the Parsons' boys were all sick, so my "playtime" had to be around the house.)  Anyway, I don't really decorate for the seasons, but I do like changing around accessories and decor to suit  (read more …)

some things just don’t need a makeover…

As I shared a few days ago, I have been on a roll with finding French chairs.  Just last week, I found a pair of French wing backs, a pair of Bergeres, a pair of balloon backs and two single French-style chairs, including this pretty one... When I first saw it on Craig's list, in a poorly lit, slightly blurry picture, I assumed it would need to be reupholstered.  When it saw it in person, I  (read more …)

guest room curtains…check

I tend to get a little bit aimless around the holidays.  Those aimless times are when it's hard to be your own boss.  I have long lists of things I want and need to do, but I don't have anything pressing.  (Actually, I need to finish my Christmas shopping and that's getting pretty pressing...)  When I start to feel aimless, I usually do one of two things.  One - I'll give myself a break and have  (read more …)

As I'm sure you've noticed, there's been a lot of shuffling going on in the guest room.  I hand painted a bed in a Bavarian style and started decorating the entire room around it.  Then, after I had it for only a few months, I sold it. Now, I like change and I'm fickle when it comes to decorating, but I'm not quite that fickle.  I really loved this bed and it was hard to sell it, but there was a  (read more …)

Pine Cone Hill 20th Anniversary Bed & Giveaway

I mentioned earlier this week that a big giveaway was coming up...the biggest one I've ever had on my blog.  Well, this is it. I started working with Pine Cone Hill and Dash & Albert a few years ago when they sent a rug to borrow for my home office makeover.  It was being photographed for Flea Market Style magazine and they asked me to pick out a rug with some pop.  I fell in love with that  (read more …)
