Making an “Antique” Sign

CB Sign - Step 2b (640x424)

I must apologize!  I posted a teaser about this sign I made for Cottages & Bungalows and said I would post the tutorial after the issue was off newsstands.  Well...that was in August, so I think it's safe to say that those issues have been pulled.  So, at long last, here it is... What you’ll need: 12” wide pine board cut to desired length Acrylic craft paint (at least three … [Read more...]

If you've picked up a copy of the winter edition of Flea Market Style or the BHG Christmas Ideas magazine, you may have seen a familiar face...mine.  I will admit it's been a lofty dream of mine to have my home photographed for a magazine.  I've had the honor of having my blog featured and I've been a contributor to Cottages & Bungalows Magazine for about a year and a half, but it's not the … [Read more...]

Antique Sign Tutorial

DSC_2012 (424x640)

I can hardly believe that I have been writing for Cottages & Bungalows magazine for over a year! Wow.  It's been a real honor to write their DIY Essentials column to share everything from how to make no sew drapes to building a simple bird house to building a shelf.  In the issue currently on newsstands, I show how to make an "antique" sign using graphite transfer paper.  I love any project … [Read more...]

Boy, I have really missed having internet over the weekend. I had plenty to keep myself busy, but it was such a bummer not being able to post or check my e-mail.  It's such an outlet for me and it was tough not having it.  Anyway, we got a new router today and we are back online!  Technology is such a blessing! We're getting ready to go to Raleigh, NC for Thanksgiving, so I had several things … [Read more...]

Some of you may have seen on the news that we're expecting quite the snow storm today. In OCTOBER. In PENNSYLVANIA! Now, if you're in Colorado or somewhere like that, you may be rolling your eyes, becuase you just had a foot of snow and that's totally normal. But it's not normal in PA to get 5-9" of snow in October. I have mixed feelings, because I love snow, but it is putting a cramp in my plans … [Read more...]

fall & thanksgiving inspiration

The new issue of Cottages and Bungalows has hit newsstands, so I thought I would share a few pictures from my DIY Essentials column.  (Table settings are one of my favorites to photograph...)This month's issue shares a tutorial on how to make an over sized chalkboard with a chunky frame.   (The piece is now for sale at Lucketts.  I wanted to keep it, but it didn't fit my requirement … [Read more...]

the rest of the photo shoot

When I do a photo shoot for Cottages and Bungalows or HGTV.com, I take LOTS of shots.  I not only get the "beauty shots" that I think my editors want, but I take closeups and some other pictures that are just for me.  I just can't help myself.  So, here are some of the rest of the photos I took during my shoot for the October issue of Cottages and Bungalows, which is available on … [Read more...]
