A few months ago, I reviewed a mattress from Leesa.  It was a foam mattress that comes in a box, delivered to your door.  I’m a big fan of a foam mattress, but not everyone is, so Leesa figured out a way to get springs inside a mattress that can still be compressed, fit in a box, and delivered to your door.

Their new luxury mattress is called Sapira.

The box was sitting in the living room for a few days before I had the chance to get it out of the box.  It’s a little comical that Jeff no longer thinks anything of large boxes being delivered to our house.  He doesn’t even ask me what it is!  It’s just a part of what I do.

So, this big, black box was sitting in the living room and I mentioned it one night at dinner.

“Oh, that box in the living room is the new mattress for Marshall.”

“Wait.  What?  That is a mattress?”

“Yes.  In the black box.”

“In the black box?  A mattress?  Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure!  Remember that other mattress I got a few months ago that was in a box?  It’s like that.”

“I thought this one had springs, though…”

“Yes, it does.”

“And it’s in that box?”

“Yes!  You do realize you’re giving me great blog content right now…”

“How do they do that?”

“I don’t know.  That’s why I’m not inventing mattresses with springs that fit into boxes.”

Seriously.  That was our dinner conversation almost verbatim.

So, I don’t know how they did it, but the Sapira mattress was “created by dreamers and built by experts” with the perfect blend of high-resiliency foam, high-density memory foam, and their exclusive Pocket Spring technology.  These premium materials were used to offer both support and comfort and to react to each individual person’s body. It also has edge-to-edge coils so you can comfortably sleep on the entire mattress surface.  And it fits in a box, so it can be shipped to your door for you to test out at home.

I shot a quick video of the unboxing process…

(Sorry about the grainy video.  That room is the darkest one in our house, so it’s tricky to film in, but you get the idea!)

Aaaand excuse the stuff under the bed.  It is a little boy’s room.

Here’s how the room looks when it’s all prettied up for pictures…

Anyway, I told Marshall we were getting him a new mattress, which I thought he would be excited about, since we’ve made a bunch of changes in Calvin’s room recently, but he wanted to make sure it was a good one.  I assured him that it would be better than his bottom-of-the-line twin mattress with a memory foam topper trying to disguise that fact.  Getting a good night’s sleep is such an important part of overall wellness at any age and that starts with a quality mattress.  Sapira offers an in-home trial for 100 days, so he can make sure he loves it.

Some other things about this innovative mattress…

It’s 100% made in the USA and is only available online (with free shipping).  As I told Marshall, they offer a 100 day trial and, if you don’t love it, they will pick it up at your door and give you a full refund.  I’ve learned that your body does need to get used to a new mattress, so being able to try it for over 3 months removes the anxiety over purchasing a mattress “sight unseen”.

Sapira also joins Leesa’s social impact programs and for every 10 mattresses sold, one is donated to a local charity in need. They also plant a tree for every single mattress sold.  I really love it when companies use their success for good.

Mattress pricing starts at $975 for a twin and all sizes are priced below $2,000.  Oh, and if you can’t unbox your own mattress (these are pretty heavy), you can select white glove delivery.  They will unbox it for you and remove your old mattress.

I unpacked the box while Marshall was at school, so I’ll keep you posted on his review!

What are the 4 “ribs” across the bottom of the mattress for?

  3. Oh my gosh! Sebastian is the cutest! I love his excitement when he’s waiting to see what’s in the box. 😀

Mattress in Box…great for college students.. when my daughter moved off campus and had to get her own furniture and I live 2000 miles away.. she got a mattress in a box for under $200 and loves it..she also purchased a foldable bed frame ..

Love the whole boys’ room design – keep us posted on how he likes the new mattress! I cannot find where you listed the navy color you chose for the walls – could you share that, please? Thanks so much!!

As long as there are brick and mortar mattress stores, I don’t see myself ever buying a mattress in a box. I see this concept probably appealing more to younger consumers who have grown up buying everything online.

While most mattress manufacturers offer some type of warranty trial period, I was impressed that this company offered a full refund but I was wondering if the shipping was included? This could be a rather pricey mistake if the purchaser decided to return it and had to pay the shipping.

Whoa, I couldn’t ever see myself spending $2000 for a mattress in a box. Wow oh wow, I’m in sticker shock!

    • Teresa says:

My thoughts exactly Roxanna! Since my question wasn’t answered about who pays for return shipping I am guessing its probably the customer. Too much hassle for me.

  8. Naomi S. says:

Hmmn, sounds convenient. Nice you don’t pay postage for shipping TO you. Maybe it would be okay for kids, who haven’t developed mattress preferences, but not sure for adults. Actually, the prices do seem high, too, but when I remember having sold mattresses working at Sears a few years ago, I seem to remember $2000. for a queen or king size mattress wasn’t unusual. Of course you could lie on them before you bought them so you had an idea whether they fit your mattress preferences. I don’t know, mail-order mattresses–it may be the wave of the future!

We LOVE LOVE LOVE our Leesa mattress! And love the charitable things the company does. Ours came the day before my daughter’s wedding and I was SO tired and had not been sleeping well. The first night I slept like a baby! And we have ever since! I’m going to show this new model to my husband!

    • Joy in Alabama says:

Can I add that my husband spent a year reviewing mattresses? And we even drove 100 miles to a mattress store to look at a particular brand. But the Leesa mattress had great reviews and great customer service! Our friends bought one this year and love it, too. (Btw, we’re in our late 50s, not younger consumers)
