More French Chairs

We’re on the final stretch to Lucketts.  The truck gets loaded today and we’ll set up our space tomorrow.  I’ve been working on things and shopping for so long that I’m really looking forward to it finally being here.

I told you I have French chairs coming out of my ears, practically.  I usually have four or five.  This year, I have nine…I think.  That might not sound like much, but I feel like it’s a lot.

Here’s one I just finished a few days ago….

If you think that chair looks familiar, you’re right!  I bought this pair of chairs a couple of years ago and painted them in Shutter Gray with a wash of Ironstone.  I brought them to the Lucketts Holiday Open House when I was a vendor there and they didn’t sell.  So, I brought them home and used them for a while.

I tried to sell them again at Lucketts last year.

…but they didn’t sell again!  I took them home again and used them for a while.  During that time, one of the seats got a hole in the caning, so it was sent to the basement to wait until I was ready to deal with it.  I brought its twin to the Chapel Market last October and it finally sold!

Hi, Cara!  She came to help me at the Chapel Market.  See the chair behind her?  Ironically, I could’ve sold both of them there, but I only brought one.

As I was working on pieces for Lucketts, I decided it was finally time to pull the second chair out of its basement timeout.  I upholstered the seat in the same way I fixed my dining chairs.  You can see the tutorial HERE.

I always felt like the lines of these chairs looked like the seat and arms should’ve been upholstered and it really does look better and makes the chair more comfortable.

So, we’ll see if it sells.  The third time at Lucketts has to be a charm!

I also am bringing four of these green velvet chairs along.  I bought them a little over a week ago, so I didn’t have time to strip and upholster all of them.  The fabric is pretty and in good shape, so I left them alone.  If they don’t sell, I’ll redo them.

I have some more to do before a group of teenage guys come to load my truck, so I need to sign off for now.  Keep an eye out for a guide on shopping my space at Lucketts, so you have the inside scoop!  I’ll also be running one last giveaway for those who can’t make it to the market this year.

The winner of the “Young at Heart” Lucketts Giveaway is Bette Davis who is 86 years old!!

Good luck at Lucketts and so wish I could go! It sounds like a blast and I am sure my pockets would be a lot lighter after going there. Congrats to Bette Davis on winning !! Wonder if she has Bette Davis eyes? ;)

Good luck at Lucketts. I can’t believe I’m going to miss it the year!
My husband keeps reminding me that it’s our youngest birthday and that he really isn’t that young and that I should cherish the fact that he still thinks we are cool and wants to spend the day with us but you keep posting of all of the amazing things you are taking to Lucketts and I keep wishing it was on a different day. Oh well. Maybe next year we wont be the cool parents and he’ll want to spend the day with his friends (secretly I hope not)
Looking forward to reading the post on how it went. Have fun.

  3. While I am totally bummed out that I won’t be at Luckett’s, my reason for not going is that my oldest granddaughter is rowing in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia and there is just no way in the world that I can miss that! Love the green velvet chairs. Really love.

  4. Are the dates for Lucketts Spring Market May 17th and 18th? We attended the market last year and I thought it was Fri, Sat and Sun. Just want to make sure I’m not missing out a shopping day!!

  5. What are asking for the French cane chair?

  6. Hi from Ontario!

I’m really enjoying following your prep for Luckett’s, and how you’ve been making over your furniture for sale.

I’m at the baby-steps stage of learning to paint and reupholster furniture–and I really enjoyed taking a reupholstery course last weekend–so I’m on my way, and you’ve been inspiring me and giving me inspiration along the way…even though you didn’t know it, so…thanks!

Good luck at Luckett’s, and I’m pretty sure you’ll sell your redone French chair…it’s gorgeous!

    Big hug,

    Anne :)

OMG, those chairs are to die for. I wish I lived closer. One of these days I might make the trek. GOOD LUCK @ LUCKETTS!!

    Hi Marian,
Luckett’s sounds so fun, wish I could go. Maybe someday, on the west coast so it’s a trek, worth it, I’m sure! Do you ship Greyhound? That gray chair is perfect for my gray & white living/dining room. Our French chair selection out here is sparse and I am among the lovers of them. Maybe it would be nice to say it SOLD before you even got to Luckett’s! Please let me know the price, if willing to sell & ship. Thanks so much. I’m not in a hurry, I know how busy you are…..

  9. Fingers crossed that the blue chair sells this time around! It does look better with the upholstered seat and arm rests.

Oh, and congrats, Bette Davis! 86 is a great age to be.

  10. Marian,
We have something in common. Chairs follow me home all the time. Mu Prince Charming would get frustrated when I brought them home. I knew a good scrubbing or a bit of new finishing and fabric could give another persons trash was my treasure. My lake house was easy to furnish with chairs, because my collection of weary chairs saved us plenty. Guess who is happy about my finds now!
Lucketts sounds like fun. I am definitely putting it on my list of must do shopping trips.

I don’t know who is more excited me or my mother about coming to Luckettes again. I am on a business trip in Tampa this week but will be back on time to head to Leesburg for Luckettes. All of these sneak peak of beautiful things just heightens the excitement even more. Love the chair makeover. A great call!

I hope your do very well and have a lot of fun. I live in NY and can’t make it but if I could come I would sit at the gate to be the first one in and race to your booth and buy the French twins. If they don’t sell (wishful thinking) let me know please and I will tell my husband to take me to your house so that I can buy them! Good luck!

  13. Robin Leach says:

I would totally buy that chair!

  14. Cyndia says:

Love all the chairs, but if I had a chance, I would snap up all the green ones! Gorgeous!

  15. Eliza says:

Love your chairs, Marian! I’m also a bit of a chair collector. Mirrors tend to follow me home too. DH just shakes his head:)

This will be my first Luckett’s. Can’t wait to see all the fun!

  16. Looks like I won’t be going either, I am so bummed. I have never been to Luckett’s but I am going to put it on my calendar for next year. Good luck Marian, I can’t imagine you coming home with anything!
