First of all, thank you so much to all of those who left comments on my post yesterday. For those who said it! I hope you all pursue those dreams and check in now and then to let us know how things are going. I’ll have to put up post to give those an opportunity who want to share.
I was working on some packaging yesterday and a quote from the movie Megamind came into my head. There’s a part of the movie when Magamind is battling another villain named Titan. The exchange goes something like this…
Megamind to Titan, “You’re a villain alright, just not a super one.”
Titan, “Oh yeah? What’s the difference?”
Megamind, “Presentation!”
(I have 4 & 5 year old boys. Welcome to my world.)
We decided to keep things simple and have each retailer package the samples of milk paint in small bags with stickers. I love the stickers and the bags are a perfect size, but I think I got a little enthusiastic while filling them and put in too much. Operator error, in this case. With the powder popping out of the bags, it doesn’t look cute any more. Once the bags were picked over in the shop, they started looking very sloppy. Not a good presentation, so I pulled the samples from Lucketts to rebag them with less powder.
When I was at the grocery store over the weekend, I found these cute canning jars and purchased them to see how the glitter would work in them. As usual, I got them home and had another idea.
The tops look just right for the stickers and…
…bingo. It was a perfect fit.
I filled the jars with the samples of paint and they looked so cute!
It cuts into my profit a little bit, but it’s worth it to me. Because what’s the difference between sloppy samples and super cute samples?
…presentation!

Marian!! Absolutely lovely, but I’m totally prejudiced as those little jars are my favorite.
I had another thought regarding your packaging, although I’m not sure if it would fit, but hey, it’s a suggestion. What about brown paper bags? You could tie them up with string.
It wouldn’t show the powder, but it might be a cheaper alternative to the glass jars in case you run out. These one that people use for coffee also have that handy wire tie to help keep it sealed.

Hi – I see these little jars all the time at the thrift stores here (Maryland), so if you’re interested I will pick them up for you and send them up to Gettysburg with my friend who is here every week doing whatever! I also think that if you had a bunch of different kinds of small jars (I have a small mason jar sitting on my desk right now) that once you had an inventory going you could use those also! Just a thought – I thrift every week (5 shops in one day-it’s quite fun) and go garage saleing every Friday and Saturday and always see these kinds of jars, so let me know! I’d be happy to help out and I’m only an hour away!

Oh this is so much cuter! And the jars are reusable. I love how the stickers just fit perfectly on the lid! That was serendipitous!
Brilliant! so cute and the cutting on the glasses even sparkle! Home run! (I totally have baseball on the brain!)
You are the best!
Fabulous idea! I love the canning jars. Operator errors often lead to something much better, I find.
great minds think alike! when i saw the jars my first thought was “she should put her samples in those jars” and bam i scrolled down and you did!
I’m in Cypress Tx. where can i get a sample?
Love the packaging change. Can’t get man-handled, sticker won’t rub off or get cruddy. It is just plain cute to the bone and you have a little jar afterwards. I think it is brilliant !!!!!!!!
They ARE so cute!!! Where can I find those little guys???
I already signed up for Antique Farms news letter when you first started talking about them. I love their stuff! I’m with you I would use that $50 to buy those bread bowls. My birthday is just around the corner what a great idea.
Yes, presentation means a lot! Thanks for sharing!
Oooh, that makes all the difference in the world! I have used those same jars for some of my products before, they are cute. I like them for your samples a lot – the labels on top are perfect.
The jars are wonderful idea. Love the labels on top.
I use those jars to make jam and the quilted glass really makes it special. Great idea!
I’m following Antique Farm House on Pinterest. Love them. Thanks for the opportunity.
The jars are much better; they are perfect: the labels look really good on them, they are reusable ( and might be contiued advertising as they are reused down the line, and the colors show up. Besides, nothing will leak out. Good choice, Marian.
What a wise business move! The little jars are a lot more professional-looking than the bags and will entice more people to grab one to try. Those who sample your paint are far more likely to buy it, so even with samples–yes!–presentation is everything!
Good luck with them!
xoxo
Maybe they will sell the jars to you wholesale. I think Sams has them and they have special prices for businesses. It’s a very cute look. Linda at the French Hen’s Nest
Great move! Super presentation! How many ounces goes into each sample?
Simple and true!! Great idea and a tip worth remembering!
love it!
Last week our big antique store in town had a sign up “coming soon Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint” and inside they had a display of spindles each painted in one of your colors. Then Saturday….lo and behold you were here! Well your paint was anyway. I took a picture I was so excited!
Much against my hubs wishes I bought some and thought dang this packaging is so cute! I cannot wait to use the paint and already have been glazing furniture around my house. Ha! I haven’t even been taking them outside or emptying the shelves of things. Just glazing the legs and drawers! its so fun!
Love the paint! Where can I get some? I live in Beaver, UT
Sold on the red and the Boxwood.
I am a piano teacher and just loved the Christmas Wreath you made out of Music. Keep up the good work!
Brilliant and so adorable!!
