Glitter, Stir Sticks & Bella Rustica

For years I have been making glittered letters to sell in my space, first at the Lucketts Fair, then at Wild Rose and finally in my space at Lucketts. They always sell well, but they are tedious to make and are pretty messy. My move to the lobby left me without a great place to hang my over-sized magnet board, so I decided it was a good time to switch gears.

Instead of selling the glittered letters, I’m going to sell the glitter.  That way people can make their own glittered letters or glittered whatevers!  I still plan to do a ton of glittering for Christmas, but I won’t carry the magnetic letters.  I had fun putting a little display together for it…

I’m still working out the packaging, but for now I’m selling it in these miniature clear paint cans.

So, we’ll see how it sells!

Speaking of glitter, I’m sorry if you have been trying to view my glittered letter tutorial video.  I accidentally deleted it off Vimeo AND I can’t find it on my computer.  Grrrrr.  I think I’m going to have to make a new one.

I also found these super cute mini stir sticks recently.  They’re about 8″ long and are perfect for mixing Milk Paint in a paper cup or small jar.  I use them all the time and decided I would offer them as a “free-with-purchase” item at Lucketts.

Lastly, I wanted to let you know about an upcoming event.  If you like shopping for antiques at barn sales, you’ll love shopping at Bella Rustica.  Not only will you be shopping at an awesome barn sale with tons of vendors, but you’ll be shopping at an awesome barn sale for a good cause.  Bella Rustica is a fund raising event for Agape, a ministry that supports children and families through adoption, foster care and family preservation.  It is being held September 28-30, 2012 on the Milky Way Farm in Pulaski, TN.

Bella Rustica

…and one of my dear blogging friends will be there!  You know her.  You love her…

…it’s Funky Junk Donna!  As a junk lover, adoptive parent and a total sweetheart, she was a great choice for them to bring in as a guest speaker (and all the way from Canada, too!)

My Milk Paint will be sold there and a sheet music wreath from my home will be auctioned off to support the ministry.

Oh, I totally wish I could go!!!  If you’re in that neck of the woods, I’d try to grab a couple of girlfriends and make a day of it.  (Just send me some pictures!)

This is not a paid endorsement of Bella Rustica, by the way.  I think it’s an awesome way to use this industry to benefit others and I’m honored to be a small part of it and spread the word.

    • Goodmorning Marian
What a sweet post and a big thank you for a shout out for Bella Rustica. I am a vendor and it IS an amazing event BUT this thanks for supporting Bella comes to you because the organizer is a beautiful person that , yes-loves junk, but more important has a dear heart for helping others and visioned an opportunity to combine two heartfelt loves to create an amazing event. Linda Lindley -the brain child for Bella Rustica saw the chance to help children-mothers-families and pushed forward. Thanks so much for being a part of that dream by spreading the word ! So wish you could be here too-that would be incredible. Maybe next year ! Continued success to you-YOU are a big inspiration to me and I know thousands of others. Have a wonderful day !

  21. Oh man! Another cool event that I live just way too far away from. Marion, are you going to be selling any glitter on-line? How ’bout your milk paint? Will we be able to buy it on-line from you or is it strictly through a retailer (there is no-one in AZ – though I’d love for it to be me)? I want me some glass glitter soooo bad!

  22. Elizabeth Moore says:

YES!! I am pumped!! Finally one thing within driving distance. Pulaski is about 1.5hrs from me (30min from my parents). Also, my husband and I are almost finished with our home study to adopt domestically (after having 2 bio kids). I will definitely make the drive to support this ministry! And will be pinning this blog post as well! Thanks for the info MMS! :)

  23. OH your glass glitter letter display is incredible!!! In fact I am going to make something like it to hang above our TV…. my son is skeptical but I think it is the perfect thing for the location…. especially since my husband LOVES all things typography! Now to figure out how to make a gadzillion numbers/letters. or maybe i’ll make a word search with all our names, birthdates, anniversary, etc. Thanks for the inspiration!

(and I concur with the others…. will the glitter be available on-line????)

Have a wonderful time at Bella Rustica!! I’ll be thinking of you while we are at a marching band competition pushing equipment around. :)

where can I purchase the german glitter?
Also, can your wax be used over AS chalk paint or just over your milk paint?

  27. Thanks for bringing back the glitter letter tutorial.

The mini paint cans are great. How many ounces do they hold? They would be ideal for packaging sample pots of paint. If you don’t mind, where did you source them?

Great post and love the mini stir stick idea!

  28. Tammy says:

  30. Am I the only one seeing a textiles graphic placed all over your blog?

Just leaving the Southern Bloggers Conference, where your paint was well represented.

  31. Any suggestions on where the alphabet letters can be purchased? Thanks!
