I shared when I posted FFF this week that I made a couple of big purchases on Thursday, so I thought I would show them off. Here’s one…
See that big hardware counter with all of the metal bins? Yeah, that. Woohoo! I bought it from my friend, Karen. She’s told me so many times that she would never sell that piece, so when she mentioned to me that it was for sale, I jumped on it. “Put a hold tag on it, so I can measure it when we go down there tomorrow!” I became very paranoid that someone else was going to buy it. I had to make sure it would work for where I needed it and it will. Perfectly. My husband is going to build a shelf to go on top of it to make it even more substantial. It’s going to be painted black with a stained paneled back to it. I can picture it already!
And I also bought this from her…
It’s a beautiful oak cabinet and she even has the glass doors that go on the top. I need some fixture display pieces to sell my milk paint out of and books and t-shirts and whatever else and these were perfect. There is a little more to this story, but I’ll share that in another post.
Yesterday and today I met with Jen, the president of Homestead House Milk Paint Co. (the company who’s making my milk paint.) She drove all the way from Canada, so we could test products and chat through the details of launching the paint. I’m telling you…I couldn’t have picked a better company to partner with. It’s really amazing how everything has come together. I am now finished with my freelance writing jobs and I defuzzed (cleaned) my house, so now it’s time to focus on the milk paint. I have to get the labels done, make the video tutorials, get the website up…lots to do.
Oh…and I totally stunk at announcing the winners of the cute European staplers. Here they are…
Jessica from Dear Emmeline, Kara (blessedks2005), and Christi from The Brown Shed.

{cute invitations in a kraft box with a paint brush inside!}
{our former brick & mortar had lovely old department store pieces…….I miss em–’ we sold them at an auction and they sold for pennies…..I wish I would’ve never parted with some of them} They sold for so cheap that my dad wished he would’ve bought them back.
{p.s. lime light hydrangeas plant them asap—–you will love them for your photo shoots go buy them now! they slow down traffic as they are amazingly loaded with huge pinnacle blooms!} I have 16 bushes and worth every penny.

Ewww! Great purchases! All things come to the who wait…
So love that giant counter with the metal bins. Can’t wait to see that completed!
Beautiful storage pieces!! I’m so anxiously awaiting the Milk Paint….red tricycle has my name all over it!! Blessings!
Marian, you have the eye! I love how you already know how it will be painted, where it will go, and more. You have a gift. Thanks for sharing that gift in the form of inspiration.
I’m so excited for your milk paint. I have several pieces awaiting the MM touch!
Hope your weekend has been extraordinary!
Beautiful pieces!! I can’t wait to see how it all looks when you put the display together!!
Beautiful pieces and I can’t wait to try the milk paint! So pleased to see you succeed in your business. It’s lovely to see good things happen to wonderful people.
Nooooooo….please, please, please think twice or thrice about painting your beautiful new purchase. I cannot believe I am saying this, as I have a number of lovely folky distressed painted pieces in my home, but I really love the patina on this piece and once it is painted, there it goes. It’s yours, do what you will with it, but here is just one tiny dissenting vote for keeping it as is. I really enjoy your blog and as a fellow believer, I am happy to see you being so upfront about your faith.
God bless, Sheila in Seattle
Well give me a minute now…maybe I misread that you were going to paint your purchases. I think what you are going to do is paint the pieces your husband is going to build, right? Okay now I can get a good night’s sleep! Sorry for all the drama, Sheila
Yeah, I’m painting the shelf my husband is building to go on top of the hardware counter. Not the pieces I just bought.
oH how I have coveted that piece with the bins for a long time now! I always look to see if it is for sale when I go into Lucketts! I’m glad you got it though~ probably saved me a few bucks… I’ll be watching for when you want to sell it though! LOL Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Oh my! You’ve got yourself some gems! The hardware store piece is certainly perfect for you! Bravo!
I admired both of those pieces on my one visit to your shop. I know you’ll fill them with fabulous things to sell!
Oh MM, you don’t know me, but we must be kindred spirits. I have always wanted to have a store like yours at Lucketts. If I had somewhere to put it, I’d have snapped up that hardware counter with the bins in a heartbeat – even if I had to take a loan out to do it! I love love love it! Your story is such an inspiration, you work so hard and I wanted to say congratulations on all of the good things coming your way. I can’t wait to try your milk paint.
LOOOOOVE those pieces!! Lucky you!
