I wrote an entire post and then I posted it and the content vanished. Argh!! So, take two. This weekend has been pretty low key and uneventful. I have some Christmas freelance projects due this week, so I’ve been working on those over the last few days. I have one more to finish up tomorrow. My poor boys. They were outside swimming in our kiddie pool today in almost record high temperatures and then came inside to me hanging stockings. “Mommy, why are you decorating for Christmas?” That’s a good question and one that’s hard to explain to a five year old. They are getting used to the decorating and redecorating that is a pretty regular thing in our house.
One project I photographed today is perhaps one of my favorite Christmas projects ever. I can’t wait until it’s published. Here’s a sneak peek until then…
Even though I’ve been working over the weekend, I have spent some great time with my family. One of my favorite outings was when we walked up on the hill in our small town to watch a storm blow in. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an amazing sky in my life.
My boys really enjoyed it, too. We came walking back before the rain came and they started running, yelling to us and the neighbors, “Hurry! Get inside! The storm is coming!” You could hear the sense of adventure in their voices. It was really cute.
Once I finish my articles, it’s all about the milk paint…

If you’re not careful, your boys will start expecting visits from Santa in May and December.
It must be so fun to decorate off season like this! I can just imagine the looks on your boys faces. Mine would be over the moon if they saw me decorating for Christmas right now!
Can’t wait to see it published AND hear more about your chalk paint! Can’t wait to get my hands on some:)
I’m so use to saying chalk paint. I meant MILK PAINT!!!! And it will be my first time using milk paint so I’m definitely going to wait until yours is available;)
I have questions about milk paint and I know all will be answered soon. But keep these in mind. . . can I paint over old surfaces? paint? varnish? how much/what kind of prep work?
can’t wait to get my hands on Tricycle . . . I feel some Christmas projects coming on myself!

so now you know what it’s like to live in Australia and have a stinking hot Christmas day. no wonder half the country just eats seafood for Christmas lunch! at least it’s always nice to swim at the beach or the pool after the big festive lunch
looking forward to seeing your projects
cheers Fiona
I love how the 2nd tree top in the amazing sky makes a cross. That is such a powerful photo.
Beautiful skies for sure!!
Hugs

The boys, in regards to Christmas, how cute! Can’t wait to see your book and milk paints. I am excited about painting on furniture soon.
That Sky was amazing! great shot!
I can’t wait for your posts! This one especially brightened my morning, the joy of kids (mine are older, jr high & high school, but they never cease bringing joy to our lives!), excitement of Christmas, and enjoying something real that money can’t buy. Thanks Miss Mustard Seed!

That is an amazing skyline. I used to love storms blow in when I was younger. Yeah, why are you decorating for Christmas.
That is so cute about the boys! The storm shot is amazing too – I can remember sitting on my back porch watching storms roll in – under an umbrella with my turtle in his bowl sitting next to me. I still love storms. I try to stay awake and listen to the thunder and watch the lightning and inevitably fall asleep as it is so relaxing! Can’t wait for all the info on the milk paint line – I tried another one you recommended a few months ago (sorry, can’t remember the name) and it was pretty fun. Although…..drinking wine and painting sometimes lead to less than anticipated results! LOL Please have instructions for using your paint – inebriated and NON-inebriated.
Yepp I feel ya! I work in fashion where we are simultaneously designing, photographing and ordering Spring 2013, while boxing and shipping fall 2012. I couldn’t even tell you what our stuff looks like that is on shelves right now!!
At least we don’t have to try and find out of season items to decorate and photograph with! I can’t even imagine what that pre-planning looks like….
What a sweet story..Sounds like they had fun..Christmas in May..TOo funny…Are your boys expecting Santa and gifts..LOL
That very same thing happen to me the other day….vanishing blog post. So stink’n irritating…and then you think to yourself, “wow, I could never re-create that in a million years or that was the most eloquent blog post ever written and now it’s gone” That is such a bummer.
Christmas in May, what a concept
you have a fun career, I can’t imagine thinking about Christmas right now, so glad you can though, because I know we will benefit from it at a later date.
Storms are wonderful, if I could go back in time and choose to be what ever I wanted to be; I’m convinced I would be a storm chaser. The thrill of the storm building; love it! I don’t ever want people hurt or loss of property, but I do love the scary ones. Crazy uh?
What a great experience for your boys. Maybe they’ll grow up to be storm chasers – teehee!
We had some spectacular weather here on Sunday night. But the highlight for me was getting up in the middle of the night to see lightning bugs in the trees and orange horizontal lightning over the mountains (PA). It was a special moment!
Wondering if I should have said, “Merry Christmas!”
Can’t wait for the Christmas pics. Love those chargers!
Sorry to ask a question in the comments (is there an “Ask Miss Mustard Seed” link anywhere?), but what kind of opaque projector do you use? I’m researching them online but I’m getting overwhelmed and would love your insights. Thanks so much for all you do.
Your poor kids, cracks me up. They probably think mommy is a little crazy.
Love storms & the rain…so refreshing and uplifting! Happy “milk paint lining”
Christmas is meaningful anytime of the year
Dear MMS, Your boys sound adorable! I’m glad you are going to have some more Christmas articles since you really do great Christmas decorating. So excited to see your book, too. Wow, you’ve been busy. Hugs, Anne Boykin

PS…LOVE the sky photo…I am always looking up!
Oh Christmas decorations…my very favorite thing to do and enjoy…I start decorating in October…and love every minute of it until it is all done for the tour…I am so looking forward to a trip to Leesburg next week….hoping to make a visit to your booth!….
I grew up with amazing storms that would come rolling in from out of nowhere. With a clap of thunder the skies would open up and pour. The smell of the air just before that was always intoxicating and something that I wish I could smell here in France.
I am happy to read that yours are enjoying their rainy days as well.
Beautiful decorations and I am sure it will be a beautiful reveal when the time is here.
Can’t wait to see more pics of what you are working on:) And YAY for milk paint!
Christmas, mommy where is santa,I was in retail for over 38 years and set up Christmas before Halloween(o the digs, the pumpkins are not even out yet) and because we could not visit our family’s because I worked retail and family was in Colo.and SoDak. with us in Texas. We used to do Christmas in July….So I really get is and I will need to start working on Christmas stuff because for a fall show in Martas shop and do a Christmas Open house that I have suggested to both Marta (fot the love of junk)
and Moore and Garrett in Belton wherre I sell my stuff.
LOVE your pictures of the sky,and too share with your 2 sons precious. I used to Drive to SoDak and we took hikes up in to the mountains with my 2 boys and my SIs her 2 Girls…we got caught in rain storms and saw skys that made you know….He is up there playing with his paintbrush and having fun with color…..
Speaking of Christmas, isn’t it Santa in your sky photo? Try to divide the photo into 3 – vertically, the first line from the left is near Santa’s face. See the nose, eye, cheek and of course, the beard?! Have a merry day!
Red mantle, can’t wait to see the rest.
I was awestruck by that sky the other night as well, here in Lancaster, PA. It was so powerful and mean looking.
