Working in both the retail world and the magazine world make the seasons a jumbled mess in my house. You would not believe how sad it is when your four year old gets excited at seeing a Christmas tree only to crush his hopes by telling him it’s still September and it’s just for mommy’s work. Devastating. Anyway, last week I had to finish a project for Thanksgiving, which was a little strange when the daffodils are blooming and I have spring-cleaning fever. You’d think I’d be used to it after doing it for a few years, but it’s still a little bizarre to me.
I enjoyed it, though, and here are some pictures from the shoot…
I mixed mercury glass, fine china and silver with natural elements like pine cones, feathers and a rattan place mat. I love using contrasts like this.
I’m just a little bit in love with this blue & white dome with one of Jami’s tags hanging from it. I am on a mission to find several more small domes to use in this way.
Of course, Easter/Spring was just outside of the frame, but that’s our secret.
I’m trying to prepare myself now for Christmas in May.
Welcome to my world.

I love how all of the elements work together! Gorgeous!! It may be a little early for some, but not for those of us who have inlaws to impress this coming holiday season!
Lol you’re season confused! All your photos are gorgeous as usual! Xoxo
When I worked in fashion retail, there were similar situations– clients came in to purchase gloves or boots in late January, as we were putting out swimsuits !
Your pine cones & feathers grouped with mercury glass is simply lovely. And I did laugh at seeing your bunny hiding nearby.
Gorgeous photos….
and i can see how energetically it would be weird to have two different seasons going on in your house… as i said before, i don’t know how you do all that you do…
Cindy
What is the item in the last photo that the bunny is perched on? It looks like an old tree stump that has been carved. Very cool. No matter what season you are in, we love what you do, and you continue to inspire us.
It’s the base of a column. Yeah, it’s a very cool piece.
SOO beautiful. Very inspirational!
Love the rattan chargers. They would go with so many lools.I live in Florida by the water and I would love them with a shell, beachy look. Love the dome. Have a wonderful day.
LOVE it! Frankly, I decorate about a month ahead of any given holiday anyway so, what’s “a couple of more months, give or take”, between friends!? Besides, being thankful is something that we should do year ’round anyway, right? Christmas in May and again in December!? Works for me!!!! xo
Nice and texture-y.
These are absolutely gorgeous!
Beautiful as always. The mix of textures is so pretty, I love that. I often wish that I had a separate studio just for taking photo for post that aren’t of my home. I’ll bet that would make life easier for you too. Especially being a pro and having to work months in advance. Just think of being able to set up a shoot without disrupting the whole house ahhhh what a dream . Well maybe its just me lol.
Oh, I dream of a studio. Some day!
Where did those marvelous twig chargers come from????? I would kill for those–well not really, but I would REALLY love some. Great post.
They’re from Pier One and they’ve carried them for a while, so no killing will be necessary. You can go buy some!
Well, your photos are beautiful. But I’m no where near ready for Thanksgiving. I had no idea being a famous blogger could require such a strange impact on your personal surroundings. I guess all fame comes with a price. I love seeing your beautiful home in magazines.
Beautiful as always..
Just wondering about that dome.
Was it maybe the dome from an Antique butter dish ?
It’s Beautiful!
Beautiful! You are such an inspiration, I absolutely love your work and when I need some DIY inspiration, I usually come to your website and read your “move mountains” philosophy. Thank you!
Beautiful post. I adore the “merci” tag. I visited Freckled Laundry blog/Jami. Her Etsy shop is closed.
From her blog it looked like she had some amazing tags to choose from.
I liked how you added it to the beautiful dome, for a special touch. Where did you find the dome?
Have a wonderful Sunday. Happy Week!!
I found it at an antique store for just a couple of dollars because it was missing the bottom.
Yes, I think Jami has gone on to other things, but you should send her an e-mail. She might make a batch of tags. She does sell out of some retail venues and you might be able to order from one of those.
I love this look! And I do love the bottom of the column on the table. It adds to the warmth of the table and the Fall look! Thanks for sharing!!
The dome is brilliant! Never thought to use a lid/dome that’s missing it’s lower half like that. I can see your dilemma doing seasonal stuff off-season…hard enough for me to get done when it IS the season. Your poor babies may never actually know what is when
. Just tell them we should live everyday as a celebration.
bazaar= a place where merchandise is sold.
bizarre=strange or unusual.
Just keeping you on your toes especially now that you’re an author.
Signed,
your editor
LOL! Thanks. I always need an editor. You know, I wrote it similar to the right way, but ti gave me the other spelling. I’ll get that fixed.
Looks lovely! I too, love that column base too. I do the same thing with photos – the stuff outside the frame doesn’t exactly go with what I’m shooting! Your photography is such an inspiration – thanks for sharing with us!
It might be weird….but I’m sure it’s fun. Do you pinch yourself sometimes for having a dream job?
I have some blue flo dishes which I rarely use for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Seeing what you did inspires me to use them and enjoy them. Besides….old dishes are smaller…luncheon plate size…so it would be better on the waistline too!
That would be such fun! Thanksgiving and Christmas are never far out of my mind, so I would be perfect for it! I love the little moss pot. I grown moss in the winter in pots, but I love the contrast of the green and white. I will be sure to replicate this in November!
It is like an all-season house! I can understand it can be confusing for kids
Poor guy, what a disappointment.
These domes are really cute. I will keep my open while shopping at the antique malls and will send you if I find some. I might snap some pictures first for my food blog though
That would be sweet!!
I love the textures and colors… the gorgeous blue and white against the browns of the pine cones and rattan charger and the bling of the mercury glass sets a wonderful vignette…love the elements you chose..
Beautiful, Marian!!
I also loved the dome with the “merci” tag!
I recently bought a little “dome” whic is an old butter dish, silver.
I can’t wait to make scones (this week, hopefully) and eat with homemade marmalade
(made by a friend) and show off the little dome. It is a butter dish, but round with a glass part to put
the butter. Funny how we fall in love with “things”!
Crazy world you live in. But it sure is a beautiful one. Is that little dome the lid of a bowl? Looks like it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you!!
Love the dome and the little tag, great photos even if we are months ahead or months behind for Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing.
I love the wooden stump, was wondering if it is for sale or where you got it??
Stunning! Very beautiful, excellent taste.
I worked in retail for over 35 years,so I get it.Setting up holiday in late Sept. Every time I was setting up a tree, the comment was’” we hav’nt had Halloween yet” I understand the need…..Love the looks
