the peanut scale

I don’t believe I ever properly showed off this peanut scale I purchased in the fall from one of my “pickers.”  As soon as I saw the picture of it, I knew it would be mine.  Oh yes, it would be mine.

I have no idea why I have a soft spot in my heart for scales, but I do.

  1. It could be worse…you could have a soft spot in your heart for unattractive things!

I’ve never been quite sure about these for decoration…but now I feel the scales falling from my eyes. :-)

I have a funky looking lime green scale for a future post, but I don’t have any fondness for scales, especially any big enough to weigh me!

Oh, be still my beating heart… ’nuff said!

  6. I love scales too but haven’t seen one quite like that. We live on a filbert orchard (hazelnuts.) This would be a fun way to keep some of our nuts at hand for shelling/baking. Fun!

Love this old chippy scale. Very cool find!

  8. That is a great scale. How interesting that there are/were scales, designed for peanuts.

I can see why you would love them.

  9. I LOVE IT!! Just this week I rescued an old green scale out of my garage. It was in my mother-in-law’s basement for years. Looks great on my kitchen counter and currently is holding a bunch of bananas!

I just got a green, chippy scale but I’m not sure how to decorate with it! It seems like it needs something on its top, which is flat. For now it just sits on my kitchen counter. I like yours a lot!

I can’t imagine how much stuff you have in your house! ;) Now that your room isn’t as big at Lucketts, what do you do with it all. I know before you said you’d rotate it. Find it, buy it, use it, sell it. Is this still the case?

  25. Oh be still, my heart! I have never seen a peanut scale. I love the chippy surface of this one. I have about 6-7 vintage kitchen scales, too. I just love them. (I so need to do a post about them) I had to stop collecting them b/c I was running out of display room. :) That was indeed a great find! Hope your day is a great one. Barb

I have a few vintage/antique scales, I bought my first one in the 1980′s…. but I have a love hate relationshiop with scales, and my soft spot with them is my soft waistline and the number that shows up for my total body weight… you can use the old ones to weigh your portions, but I don’t !

  27. That’s an awesome scale! I can see the attraction!

  28. breida says:

Yes, scales. I had a feeling we might be kindred spirits. . . i have scales coming out of my ears! There are even some put away in the attic because I don’t know where to keep them. I have a pink baby scale and some great old enamel pieces. I have a couple with a big “claw” foot for a base and a couple of nice old kitchen counter type ones. I even have a great big HUGE RED one where the dial is almost a foot across and is up on a pole – like a big red lollipop!!
I don’t know what it is about them -it is certainly not easy to find place to display them and they are VERY heavy – most of mine have big cast iron bases – but I LOVE THEM!
thanks for sharing yours! I would love to see some more of your collection – and how you display them!

  29. Your scale is a beautiful find. Perfect! I have an old black kitchen scale out of my husband’s great grandparent’s house. It is rusty and wonderful. It would look lovely next to this white one. Want my mailing address? —– : ) —- Just kidding!

I collect scales and think you got a neat one! I love the patina. Great find!

Love your scale…..off subject…..could you tell me what color of german glitter you usually use for your vintage crafts? Thanks!

  33. Melody Christensen says:

That’s my problem, I have too many soft spots! I am just total mush when it comes to scales, typewriters, fans, clocks…..etc.
I was hoping if I could ask you the paint color, aqua, that you painted your beautiful space at Luckett’s. It is perfect.

Girl after my own heart! I too own an “old” scale. Well it’s not really that old- just looks that way. I love it and I actually use it for baking! Funny thing is I was going to post mine this week on my blog- great minds think alike I guess. Thanks so much for sharing yours! I just love how old and “chippy” it looks.

  35. Erica says:

Just saw one yesterday at the Antique Marketplace in Lemoyne. I feel instantly in love. If only I would have had counter space to even consider the idea.

  36. I share your love of old scales and I’m still kicking myself for not buying that black one you had awhile ago!

    Kat :)

  37. Kitty Breed says:

Love it too. I also share the “scale addiction.”
