Yesterday was all about Lucketts. I went down there to get my room ready for the open house. (Minus the sofa. Poor Ruthie was up until 3:30am on Thursday working on that thing and just couldn’t make it to Lucketts in time, so she’s bringing it early tomorrow and will help me haul it up the stairs. Talk about above and beyond.) I did have some great help today, though, and we got the place looking sparkly and ready for Christmas.
OK, I have to explain this tree topper. I know it’s ridiculous on that dinky tree. I had planned on getting a lush, live tree, but it just wasn’t going to fit and the thought of dragging it up the steps and everything that was involved just didn’t seem worth it. So, I pulled this little guy out of my basement and the paper star I had intended to use on a huge tree looks rather silly. Have a good chuckle and let’s move on.
Here are my awesome helpers…Kerry and Rachel. Aren’t they dolls? Of course, they look all cute and I was in my usual hoodie and chucks. Oh well. We had a really nice time together chatting it up.
I popped in on Karen’s room and snapped some pictures for her. It looked amazing, of course.
I ended up buying that large mercury glass pedestal and cloche from her as well as a couple of small ones. It was a real splurge, but I’ll use them a lot for my Christmas photo shoots.
I also ran into two other readers, Marian and Karen (hm, those names sound familiar), both from Utah, but not together. They were both so sweet to come to Lucketts while in the area on other business. I hope they found some goodies that will fit in their suitcases. Another reader of my blog is also working behind the counter at Lucketts now. Kasey (sp?) left her “day job” and is now doing something she’s really excited about. Good for her.
Then, we got a real treat. We were able to tour the design house, which wasn’t open to the public, yet. I have no words for how stunning it looks. I’ll just show you.
I suggest you sit down. Maybe get a cup first to catch all of your drool.
It was awesome to see it before the mob descends. I can’t wait to share all about the event and I have some other pieces of news as well.

Oh my goodness!! How I wish Kansas wasn’t so far away. I just sat and drooled at all the pictures for over an hour. You have so many wonderful and beautiful things in your space, and are very blessed to have such a creative eye and talents. I wish you much success this holiday season and this is a bit early but, Frohe Weihnachten und glückliches neues Jahr.

Why can’t store be in San Diego!! My Christmas wish for this year is to go shopping at your beautiful store. Amazing!
Visiting Lucketts has been on my bucket list but it just moved up. It’s pretty much No. 1 now.
The ticking pillows look a little slouchy…other than that it’s all perfect. Thank you, thank you for the great pics.
Yep, we definitely need the bigger pillow forms. All of your runner sold today, so I need to order some more!
I need a Luckett’s in Michigan, Marian! lol! What an amazing place! It looks like it’s a house (?) and each dealer has their own room they rent? What a cool idea! No wonder you felt so honored to be asked to be a part of it!
Your room looks absolutely amazing. I’m in awe of the entire place!
xoxo laurie
The Design House is an old house and the store used to be a general store with living quarters on the 2nd and third floors. It was then converted in a bording house, I believe. It makes a great antique store. Tons of character!
I can only but daydream…..greetings from Australia. It is such a pleasure just looking at the pics on your blog. Luckett’s looks like my dream shopping experience and your display area is just gorgeous!
Why why why do I have to live in Cailifornia????? Your work is so wonderful!! I would love to buy one of your famous ornaments and glitter letters! Will you ever sell online?? I can only hope someday

Thanks for all your inspiration , my 3 girls and I check your site everyday, they think you are a huge celebrity
Have a great weekend!
A.ma.zing! All of it!!!
I think I’ve just gone into decorating over-stimulation! Ok, I’m better now. Wow! Your space looks fab, Karen’s space looks fab, the Design House – I almost didn’t make it passed the pics of the porch! Did you see those chairs??? To die for :::thud::: Karen’s is always the first place I go once inside Lucketts and I’ve purchased most of my items from her. Now I can run up the stairs to your space as well! I can’t wait to get there this weekend! This is always the best Design House – really perks me up and puts me in a festive mood! Hope you have a successful weekend – what am I saying? Is there anything left from today? LOL Hugs, Leena
Wow – it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! And I love your tree topper, Marian – doesn’t look too big to me, although I could never be accused of not being over the top myself. Everything is just beautiful – I hope this weekend is a successful one for you and that you enjoy all the fruits of your hard labor! Wish I could be there to experience it all myself!
Blessings!
WOW, you weren’t kidding! I’m going to have to buy a new keyboard it’s full of drool-I was like a St. Bernard!! What a absolutely gorgeous place-I can see why they ask YOU to be a part of the store-you are a perfect fit!! Congratulations. Your Christmas displays left me feeling calm and peaceful!
Stunning and stimulating! Beautiful!
WoW! It looks great. I want to come shopping!
Happy Holidays {is it too early to say that?}!
Total eye candy, and total dedication. Your hard work shows, and thank you for always going the next step in posting beautiful photos. Your space will be cleaned out soon, so be prepared to re-stock!!
The nest on the loo seat is priceless! The metallic chairs are stellar!
Wow! It’s just beautiful. I even googled how long a drive it would be… 8.5 hours! I used to drive that often in my 20s… I’d love to get to that area to visit some high school friends and drool all over your room! Thanks for the beautiful pictures… you’re such a great photographer! I have found I’m better at simulating real life in Photoshop, than taking real pics. (it’s harder than it looks!)
Oh, my! How I wish I could find an excuse to travel the many miles from Seattle. The polar bear room is like a childhood fantasy. And of course I found something I must have!! Does Luckett’s do shipping?
P.S. your room is simply stunning, Miss MS.! How could anyone not want that nest picture for so long that you are marking it down? I love it and that colt picture in the feather room in the design house. Your arrangement of muted whites incorporating the nest picture is so soothing.
I was at Luckett’s today for the holiday open house and it was stunning! Everything was so festive and I had a hard time deciding what to get. I loved your room and I got several of your glitter ornaments and the sheet music tree along with a few other fun items. What an awesome time
Looking gorgeous, girl!
I love Lucketts! We have been stopping there for years now on the way home from visiting my Brother-in-law in Fairfax,VA. Actually got an old metal crib that I have on my front porch now as a daybed. We use it all summer and fall to read at night. Amazing job on the room. So, So, cozy and nostalgic.

Hello!
I have been a follower for a few months now and want to congratulate you on making the decision to downsize to the smaller room at Lucketts. One cannot do everything and you are so talented, you will be able to streamline and do beautifully even in a smaller place at Lucketts. Best of luck on everything and thank you for your wonderful blog, your tutorials and your inspiration.
Warm regards,
Elisabeth
Wow, everything looks so gorgeous! I really, really, really wish I could see it all in person. Sounds like downsizing is the right choice for you now, given how full your plate is. You still need time to enjoy all of the amazing things you do!
Thanks for the look at the rest of Lucketts. I must say your space is my favorite though.
Wow, so much beauty in one place! You’re lucky if you get to go to Luckett’s! (Yes, I slay myself!) Your room really is the prettiest – it has that serene beauty that really typifies your look- Love it!
Oh my goodness, Marian! Your room looks absolutely stunning. I am so inspired. And all the other spaces are gorgeous as well. I need to e-mail you later today to ask you something about your Christmas tree skirt from last year. Hope you are having a beautiful Sunday!
I soooooooooo love it! Everything is so bright and magical!
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” That place looks like it’s something that is right up my alley. Might have to drive there by way of White’s Ferry and see it. howIs the weekends the best time to come? Are all the rooms totally Christmas merchandise? Do you know far Luckett’s Store is from White’s Ferry Rd. in Leesburg?
Any Traditional furnishings or French Provencial furniture or shabby chic rooms?
Lucketts is very close to White’s Ferry…just a few miles north on Rt. 15. I think you would love Lucketts. There is lots of Frenchy furniture and chippy pieces and romantic chandeliers that could work in a Shabby Chic home. Some rooms are decorated to the hilt for Christmas and other aren’t. A lot of the Christmas stuff was cleared out during the open house, but there will certainly be some left. They are open daily from 10-5.
My friend and I drove from eastern MD bay area to Leesburg just for the open house! 2 1/2 hours later, many laughs, and we finally made it… an hour before closing. Ugh. However, we did get to go through the house and the store quickly. I loved your room! You were quite picked over by the time we made it there. I did get an ornament just to say I had an official piece of MMS merchandise. It was all I could do not to purchase the Swiss Miss. I would have, but I had no way to get her home.
Thanks for the inspiration you give everyday in your blog! I read your posts everyday.
You mentioned in an earlier post of a store that helps with shipping of the Annie Sloan paint. Could you repost that name or website?
Love your BLOG!!!
Hmmm…I’m not sure I remember that. There are lots of stockists who ship, so you should find the one closest to you. Just click on the chalk paint button in my sponsor section.
Oh!! Everything is so gorgeous. I wish I could have been there. Such beautiful things. I will be looking these over and over again and dreaming and planning.
Ruth
I was wondering if the birds nest print in your booth sold, and if not what is the price? Could it be shipped? Your booth always looks amazing in your photos. Maybe one weekend I talk my husband into watching my son and me and girlfriend make a long weekend trip up there.
AAAAAAHHHHH something told me this was the Lucketts that I know! living with parents in leesburg and frederick we drove through this quaint little town every other weekend and i would beeeeeeg my dad to stop at the shops that looked like houses. i would spend hours in there as a middle school kid, all the handmade quilts and perfectly decorated rooms inspired me and i still think of that place even today. now that i live on the west coast it’s crazy to see that that town is still a hidden spot to enjoy handmade wares and inspiring interior design. design on miss mustard seed!
