The dentist office called…
…they want their fabric back. Oh, why on God’s green earth would someone want to cover a chair in fabric that looks like it belongs as wallpaper in a doctor’s office? Why would any doctor or dentist want that on their walls, anyway? I don’t know, but they all do. Anyway, someone did this horrible thing to these chairs. It’s like a pretty girl wearing an ugly dress to the prom. So, I made these girls new dresses. They need a bit more ironing, but cut me a break…they look a lot better!
My dear friend, Leslie, gave me this set of four chairs. The shape is great, but you already know how I feel about the fabric. I made custom slipcovers for two of them out of drop cloths. Much better. These are coming to the barn sale set-up with me on Monday…after being ironed.
I also had a great yard sale day today. I had no money and a van full before I even left my little town (which has only two stoplights.) I found an antique school desk…
…a vintage picnic basket…
…a great dresser and an antique croquette set…
…and one of my favorite finds is this vintage hospital light. There’s something very “Restoration Hardware” about it. I asked one of my clients if she was interested in it and if she isn’t, I just might keep it for myself.
I also bought an old shoe form and four ironstone plates. Not a bad day at all.

That's too funny. I picked up a set of 5 lovely french shaped chairs with a similar, hideous, pastel, southwestern-looking upholstery. Gross!! Can't wait to do something different.
You found some great treasures! What a transformation on the chair. I worked at a dental office for several years and that fabric looks familiar. Wish we'd had your slipcovers! I love your little blue and white pillow!

I wish the garage sales down here had that kind of stuff! For some reason it seems like the older towns (up north) have much more older furniture at yard sales and what not compared to down here in florida. Here you find mostly art deco floridian themed stuff… not my kindof taste!
I love it when someone who has awesome taste buys the exact same things as I have, makes me feel like I have good taste! I have a croquet set exactly like yours, as well as a school desk in the exact same style, your's is in better shape than mine. Awesome finds!
Wow, I would love to follow you around when you are junkin'. I live in a small college town so I don't really ever see nice items like that….just real junk furniture…after the kids get done with it. Ha!

Gorgeous finds!! I agree with you about that fabric on those chairs. Why is it that all of the doctors office's do that? The new dresses for the chairs are lovely.
I'm going to have to come by your shop space in Walkersville…I'm only about 45 minutes from there! I'd love to browse through the store. One of these day I'm going to make it to the Chartreuse barn sale too.

Love the slip covers. and well everything you do! I have a quick question for you about the drop cloths. I hope you haven't answered it before, if so just post a link
Is there a particular brand of drop cloth I should look for? All of the ones I see are either coated with some special treatment or they seem soooo thick, I think they would be hard to work with.
P.S. I used your painting tutorial and refinished two bookshelves, 2 hall tables and a mirror last weekend! I was on fire!
The fabric on those chairs screams "1980's". I suppose if we wait long enough, it will come back in style….or not. Once again, Miss Mustard Seed, you amaze me with how much you can get done in a day!
I think my mom has those chairs in her dining room right now! It looks so much better "slipped". Wonderful finds, as usual. The lamp is cool.
The chair looks fab. Hey, did you ever try to see if your ivory slipcovers would bleach to white? Great yard sale finds…looks like we both had luck this weekend. Mine are going up tomorrow.

That is so funny because my friends had those exact same chairs in her old house and I thought that they looked like doctors office chairs! Your slip covers are SO much better!! Great finds, I wish people around here had cook junk like that! I love the light!
You have the best hauls with yard sales. The ones in my town are full of used candles, plastic 'wood' coat racks & 80's cassette tapes. Gorgeous slipcovers too!

I use Finish Factor 8 oz drop cloths from Lowes.
I love your slip covers. What's the back look like? And how much are you going to sell those for?
We borrowed an old antique desk like yours so my 4 year old would have a spot all her own this year while Im homeschooling her. So it actually gets used on a day to day basis. Its teeny tiny like her and the height is adjustable which is great for a growing girl
