Something For Me

As most of you know, I have been a busy girl making things for Lucketts, for my new booth, for clients and writing tutorials for, so my poor house has been neglected.  I’m ashamed to say that there were a few weeks where I hardly cleaned the place.  (I did clean my bathrooms, but the dust, the carpets and the floors were a disgrace!)  I finally got caught up with my cleaning and I mopped the floors, shampooed the carpets and cleaned every room head to toe.  Now, I’m feeling the itch for some “me” time.  Some girls want to go shoe shopping, read a novel or get a message.  I want to work on my house.
I still have a huge business to-do list, but I snuck about an hour of time for myself and finally made a cover for the pillow form that’s been sitting on my living room sofa.
The pillow form didn’t look hideous, but I was ready for something cute.  I hit up my fabric stash and had just enough of a fabulous (and expensive) blue and white remnant that I had leftover from a client project.  I used another blue checked remnant to make a mini-pleated trim.  I used the same technique as the pillow in my guest room, so you can follow that tutorial if you’re interested in replicating this look.
This small project has motivated me to carve out some time to finish my living room, so I can finally show it off.
Of course, my two year old did a face plant on it after eating goldfish, so it was stain-free for less than 24 hours, but such is life with toddlers!
I was able to get a few things back in order in my guest room as well, so I’ll be showing that this week.  It’s amazing how a few small changes can make a room feel very different.
Now, back to work on stuff for my booth and other people…
…at least I love what I do!

  1. I love that fabric. Gorgeous pillow!! The goldfish thing is funny. Kids are such little blessings (in other ways mostly, but the mess goes with the territory)

And I'm glad you were able to get caught up on your homekeeping. That makes everything feel so much better.

  2. That fabric does look really nice and face plantable! =)

Maaaann I need to get a slipcover for my sofa, yours looks so nice =)

  3. Good for you for taking some time out for yourself. We all need that so that we will be better for everyone. I'm with you that I would rather work around my home than most other things. (unless it's being at a flea market looking for some neat thing for my home)

  4. I love the pillow cover you made! The pleating is so sweet. Very pretty! The other pillows are fantastic as well – really like the the needlework pillows…I need some of those myself!

  5. Very pretty pillow! I know what you mean about wanting your "me" time to be time for working on your house. I am exactly the same way…just give me an uninterrupted hour or two to sew or finish painting something, or to shove furniture around and I am thrilled! :-)

  6. Love the fabric! Yep, those little 2 year olds sure have a way of reminding us that nothing is to stay clean or stain free for long. But, we moms keep on trying! My little monkey taught me a lesson about painting, never ever leave the brush near the can when you walk away, even for 30 seconds! She managed to dip my entire paint brush in the paint in that amount of time and then walk away looking angelic. Ah well, that's life with toddlers!

  7. I'm right there with ya! We moved our oldest out in July, sister into her room, she into sister old room, and then got busy with school and volleyball. I too want some "me" time…"me time" to work on the house, get the rooms organized and finished…thus creating REAL me time! I wish you the best on the new store!! And, can't wait to see your rooms revamped.

  8. Love your pillow! It's so funny about the goldfish but our children are only tiny once. We've got to enjoy them while we can!

  9. Lovey looking fabric! I know what you mean, i work so hard too, that the house gets put on the back burner sometimes :)

  10. Pretty pillow, Marian. The beauty is in the details. It's nice to take "me" time once in a while although I'm totally with you on wanting to work on the house instead of shoe shop!

  11. I love the fabric too!!!I wish I knew how to sew. I have a sewing machine but never use it…I bought it a long time ago because #1 so I could say I had one and #2 It was on sale.

  12. Love the blue and white pillow !!!!
Nice that you were able to create for yourself. You do what you love and love what you do and it shows in your quality of work(womanship)

  13. Very, very lovely. And timeless too.

The floral pillows on each side also caught my eye. Are they some special type of needlepoint? May I ask for a closeup photo?

  14. The pillow turned out really beautiful. You are so brave to use so much white with little children around. I've been wanting to recover my couch and would love to do it white/cream but with 5 kids I'm a little hesitant.

  15. I think what I love most about whatever you create with fabrics is that it always makes the room look comfortable and like you just wanna curl up on the couch. It doesn't look stuffy like you are afraid to sit and be casual. I love a casual but beautiful home, and yours is definitely that! You're a great inspiration for me! (I love your name too: Miss Mustard Seed!!) God bless you!

  16. Love your pillow! Just beautiful. Every time you walk by it will bring a smile to your face. :)

  17. I'm with you…I'd rather work on my house than anything else.

The pillow looks awesome…I love the fabric and the stitching! Great job!

  18. Really great pillow cover! New pillow covers for our sofa are in the short list of things I'm hoping to get to in the not too distant future. I especially love the way you've used the cord to create a design.

  19. That is an elegant fabric. Take care of your needs then you will be better able to take care of the others. hugs♥olive

  20. I just LOVE your pillow! I love blue & white…I have a dream of a guest room I can do however I want & I am planning on white & blue.

Your pillow is just beautiful & the crisscross detail is lovely!
