French Style Table Revealed!

I received another award! This one was the Honest Scrap award from Frippery. I received this a few weeks ago from another blogger, but that doesn’t make this one any less special. Thanks! You can click here to see my answers and learn a little bit more about me.

Also, excuse my blog as I undergo some design changes.

Here is the pretty marble-topped table I gave you a sneak peak of last night. I found this on Craig’s List for $20.00. The top is solid (and I mean solid) marble and it was in great condition. It was just a little tired… Here’s the before (with the top off.) The finish had seen better days and it was a little dated.

I sanded, applied Gloss-Off, primed, and painted the piece with 2 coats of semi-gloss Pro-Classic paint from Sherwin Williams. Check out my furniture painting tutorial for the details. Once the paint was dry I mixed a pallet of browns and blues using acrylic paints. The white pool in the middle is Polycrylic by Minwax. I use that as an extender and glaze in all of my decorative painting.
I mixed each color with the glaze/Polycrylic in order to give it a faded and watery look.

I used the blue to highlight some of the details of the piece.
And used burnt umber, goose feather, and asphaltum for the floral detail. The marble top has a lot of taupe and brown in it, so I wanted the painting to match that. I also wanted to keep it simple with a monochromatic pallet.
This is a picture of the base coat. I then added low lights and highlights. Once the decorative painting is dried (and acrylic paints dry fast) I rubbed on the antiquing glaze. Click here to get the details on what I use and how to do it…it’s really easy.
And this is the finished result. Too bad I don’t have a place for it in my house…love it! This will go in our new shop in a few weeks.
Here are some close-ups of the details…

Do you think an old burlap feed sack and an interesting footstool can have a happy marriage? Check back soon to find out!
